Hogna incognita is currently an undocumented species of wolf spider found in the south-central United States. They are known for their burrowing behavior and large size.
I learned this summer that my yard is full of these spiders. I'm still learning how to tell them apart from H. antelucana. I hope in time it will get easier but for now it's still a struggle! Just a few months ago it was announced that DNA testing showed that H. antelucana and H. 'incognita' are indeed genetically different species. It's interesting to me that the differences between the two are more than skin-deep - they appear to have different behaviors, too. And there's still so much to learn!
Hey! I found a population of this species near my home, and this is the only video on this platform I’ve been able to find that shows this species. I was wondering if there was a way to reach out to ask questions about this wolf spider, I’m working on a video of my own but I’ve not been able to find much information.
