Hey everyone! Back in Trailmakers and today I am continuing my port vehicle theme and building a trailer that has the ability to load itself without the need of a crane, forklift, or any other sort of container lifting assist vehicle. I stumbled upon this trailer design while looking for something entirely different but I'm glad I did because I had an absolute blast recreating it! Let me know what you think of the build, I hope you enjoy it, and stay tuned for more episodes where I will be building more port vehicles such as transtainers, trucks, and eventually a cargo ship!

These ideas would actually go great in Stormworks. There’s a dock with containers which you can transport for profit byt air land or sea. These creations would not only be more detailed but have a practical gameplay use. Sotrmworks is a bit more complicated but honestly it would be neat if you did an easy going series where you create shipping vehicles with functionality and purpose. It would take longer to build a single vehicle but having a few episodes dedicated to one vehicle at a time wouldn’t be a bad series. You could make a fictional company and everything.

Very nice build. Have you considered replacing the 'rope' with something else entirely? Like a lever arm, or maybe tires on the top of the trailer acting like a conveyor? Or would that diverge too much from the original design?

I found the loading and hauling very satisfying something about you finding the sweet spots to make it all come together and work great when you were driving was very satisfying in the end. Keep up the great work looking forward to a long adventure with your channel 😀👍👏
Early Morning Kosmo. Just what I needed.
It's 12pm where I live :D
There is a vehicle called Ruthmann Cargoloader RCP 75 a self cargo load and carry mini truck. I think it fits the concept.
You could turn the trailer into a gooseneck also so you could hide the magnet mech in the side of there. I would recommend making this change at the same time as designing your truck though. My neighbor got a large shed delivered a couple months ago. Instead of shimmying that trailer had small wheels mounted 90 degrees. The between the sideways wheels and some good backing the delivery guy got it in what I thought was an impossible location. I have done some crazy stuff with my tractors but nothing nearly that neat.
tip: use wheels to load the cargo containers on the trailer, they also often use this on boats
And/or a good way to unload
For a locking mechanism, you could add magnets in the frame that you toggle with a separate button. I want to try and build a whole intermodal container system in SM now!
Interesting solution for making pistons more compact.
I would have probably gone with a folding arm and no pistons at all, but yours does look more like rope, more true to the original design.

So when you finish with a port vehicle series are you doing heavy lift aircraft and inflight refuelling ?
It looks really good and works like in RL, but.... There is always a but, isn't it? I'm missing something. All those loaders have steel rolls, so that the container isn't sliding across the surface so much. That makes it easier to pull it up and push it down, as there is less friction and it is better for maintenance, as it will last much longer.
Please incorporate these cargo vehicles into a MM. I'm enjoying these creations. It's like watching others work lol!

You could have them in reverse they extend from the back of the trailer to the front with the magnet/tractor-beam.
I uploaded a truck that would fit that trailer pretty well. Its just called "TRUCK" by MayoTrain. I also built a crane last night as well. These "real world" builds are very interesting.
Love the design, been enjoying this series a lot more than I thought I would. Had one thought on the ‘winch’ design. Could you attach the hinge system every other instead of every piston? It would fold up shorter and with less hinges it might unfold smoother
use skis on the top of the trailer so it slides on easier

You could try and use a similar system that the M1075 PLS uses. That is a US ARMY vehicle that use a hook to pick up the trailer and put it on the back of the truck.

Look at the Peeters landbouwmachines cargo liner chassis. I work with those, they don't use ropes, only hydraulic cylinders, you would probably be able to easily adapt it to the game

I want to use these creations. because they are good.
You can place the pistons side by side. This way with each pistons it just gets wider and not longer
For a handbrake you can use hidding hydraulics working kind of like outriggers i had to do something like that for some super heavy builds and for my anti aircraft tank
Ay idea for the trailer use frictionless blocks on the top layer of blocks (replace the block with the frictionless) then won't gotta worry about all of the problems. maybe
I actually saw once of these trailers on the road one time, but I didn’t know what the purpose of the slider was, so I was wondering if the container was loaded by a reach stacker or it had something to do with the slider. Well, now I know lol
Friction pads on pistons to act as a "hand brake" and add stability.
You could try to build the big rig version that has the stacker load it instead of the trayler it self

What we need is Trailmakers Survival and instead of delivering farmers you deliver crates to buy cool stuff. That means Kosmo is already 1 step ahead of everyone else :D you already have a trailer and a crate stacker. While you finish the game others will just be thinking what to do :D

The wheel rotation is out of time with the ground... when you were driving around towards the end, watching the text printed on the wheel sides makes this really clear. Very strange...
I should say, the wheel rotation is *slower* than it should be. If it were faster than it needs for the motion induced then it may well have been the presence of the crate causing you to slow down, and wheelspin... But its not wheelspinning, its going too slow in revolutions.
