How To FIX Baggy Dress Shirt Sleeves

- One of the easiest things you can do is learn how to tailor your dress shirts BUT that might not be enough. You can measure and pin the body of the shirt as well as the sleeves, but you might still have a big problem. You might still look like a flying squirrel in your shirt.

Love your videos. However, this was a long video that didn't actually show anything. It would be helpful if you showed where the sewing line is on the shirt
I would like to see you actually sewing a shirt instead of explaining it. I'm more of a visual learner. Thank you are awesome
ruclips.net/video/9p1FTRsKUus/видео.html
Thank you so much
Thank you for the link I want to see it done too that’s a problem I’ve had a lot
SD, really enjoying your channel, I’m learning so much. I have recently lost 126 lbs and all the tailoring my cloths is now a must! Thank you for all your tutorials and your sense of humor! Love it!! Chad
This video is perfect for the problem I have been having...... but I'm not sure exactly where I would start measuring from. Where would I put a protractor, would it be on the inside of the shirt, outside, side of the shirt. You made the instructions pretty clear, but I'm just a bit confused.( BTW thank you so much for the sewing videos!!!😀 I have been picking up lots of trick's from your videos.)
Don't overthink it too much even though it's easy to do. You don't even really need a protractor, just look at whatever angle that is on it and use that. You even have a tolerance of a few degrees too, it doesn't have to be precise.
@@StylishDTailors thank you so much!! 😀😀
@@StylishDTailors Hey new subscriber here, I love your stuff. But I think the question still stands. Whether it's 45 or 50+ degrees the points that you end the side and arm seam really aren't clear. Should you make that angle at the last 10% of the arm length? last 25%? The angle is handy but the beginning/end points still aren't clear.
LOL this fkn weather man..
But yea, 50/45 degrees close enough lol. 45 is the more common degree people will usually say.
I screwed up so many times around the armpit area it was pissing me off. But will definitely try the 50 degree trick.
Random tidbit of the day, 45 degree is like the best angle for a trajectory. So one might think throwing a football at 45 degrees will go the furthest but noooope. Usually people flat bench more than an incline press so it'd be less than 45 degrees is the golden angle when throwing a ball lol. So like 35/40 degrees maybe? Dunnno
Lol hey do you have a trick for pinning so that you pull it downwards AWAY from the machine? Lol I always confuse myself and just say "fk it" then when I get to the machine all the excess fabric gets bunched up on the right side LOL, and then regret my decision.
Should be around 35 degrees, but it depends on how much air resistance there is, so give or take a couple of degrees (also, I kinda remember that I once read it was 33 degrees.. but I am not sure). The 45 degrees angle is the best if you have no friction during the flight (for instance, if you were to throw a ball while on the moon).
Edit: talking about throwing a ball, not about the stitches.
Yup, 45° is what most people associate with a diagonal line.
Stockton, California. 68 degrees. It doesn’t snow here.
Hey SD, can you make videos on these two topics:
1. Tailoring outerwear e.g. jackets and blazers
2. Tailoring polo tshirts
Yup! That jacket that I'm wearing in the Target video is coming first!
If you're holding your arm perpendicular to your spine that is a 90° angle. Half of that would be 45°. But if you account for a tapered torso, 50° could be appropriate.
What can I say...I'm bad at math lol
Stylish Dad you should make videos on the other aspects of style you have. Your body is fit and really enhances what you wear. Was also curious on how to pick shirt colours that go with the skin, hair and eyes.
I've thought about it, I'll see what I can come up with!
@@StylishDTailors awesome i look forward to it
Haha, I thought I was the only dude who labelled them ‘batwings’ lol. Nice video, I’m actually getting inspired to learn to sew. I got all my suits and shirts tailored but finding the right size in cotton casual shirts can be a mission in itself. This would make things a lot easier!!!
This is a game changer especially if you have big arms and a big chest it's hard to find a shirt that fits either it's too big or too tight.
Yep, the struggle is real...
Another great video. I'm waiting for a video on slimming a blazer. I've been eyeing some on the clearance rack, but their just a tad to big. The videos that are available on this are just too complicated and unorganized to follow, so I can't wait till you drop one!
I'm waiting on all this snow to go away...
But for real though, I have a suit jacket that I'm probably gonna use if I don't find a good one on clearance. I'll have something for you soon!
Thanks for keeping it simple without forgetting any important info! I recently found a wool coat that is a beautiful royal blue but it looks like a darn bath robe. Hopefully with your tips I can make it into the stylish coat it wants to be!
My God, I'm glad I live in Texas. ☀️
Lucky...
Are you able to do a video on letting pants out, ie... waist, or even perhaps sport coats tailoring? Love the videos
Fo sho!!
I've watched this video, at least, twice and the A cup & Buttons jokes still make me laugh.
Please remake S.D! How to do this on 1) white shirt and b) your favorite t-shirts so you can keep wearing em'
Coming soon!
Another great video. It all makes sense now why my cest buttons are so tight on a few of the shirts i tailored.
Yep, took me awhile to figure it out too
You’re funny man. Definitely will keep up with the channel. Thanks keep it up.
I like your energy and passion. Great stuff.
Thanks!
Dude I wish I had found your channel sooner.
Better late than never!
@@StylishDTailors I lost about 80 lbs and I was buying clothes that fit me well at the time but soon I had to give them away because they started fitting way too loose. I could have tailored and kept them a little longer.
Good video friend
I tried to alter my button down shirt, but everytime i wear it after finishing, i cant raise my arms over 90° or it will get too tight. Any suggestions there?
Hmmm, might have been too aggressive when taking in the sides. It happens!
Such an underrated channel!
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate that man!
Are you still passing through the arm hole with this angle? I’m just confused if there’s 2 stitches now or if it’s still just once stitch and you’re just turning tighter at the armpit?
I need to remake this to make it clearer. But yes, you want to pass through the arm hole with this angle.
A demonstration would be better than just pure instruction.
Yeah I need to remake this video that’s for sure
So I love you man but the shoulder is more teacup and saucer than ball and socket but I digress.
Love the vids my man.
Hey, let say you were taking the sleeves in by 2 inches. do you run a straight 2 inch stitch back the sleeve until you get a couple inches from the armpit seam, and then hit that 50 degree angle? I have been tapering in gradually and I don’t necessarily care for how it looks
Correct you got it man
What if I'm only tapering the sleeves for example, and not the sides? Is it possible to make the armholes higher then?
Yes but it would be easier to taper all the way down.
@@StylishDTailors I have a shirt where the body fits fine but the sleeves are a bit too loose. I would've want to taper all the way down the body and cause it to become too tight. That's why I'm asking.
It would be great if you could make a video about just making the armholes higher without also tapering the body at some point!
Cmon with the jokes are you a comedian or my tailor instructor? Just kidding. Sike na, but foreal
Yeah I gotta remake this video...
Dude’s hilarious Yo!!!!!
Thanks!
Listen, most guys start looking for tailoring advice when things start to not fit right. You know, you go from making any shirt look good to things starting to expose you getting out of shape.
There are countless tailoring and style advice channels about how to make things fit.. fit people. FFS I just want one video on how to make my failing dad bod fit into a shirt without making me look like a packed sausage or like I'm hiding my shame under a tent of fabric...I'm turning 40 this year, I've lost my style to barrel cut polo shirts and pants so large to fit my waist that the crotch cut hangs mid thigh to remind me not to walk any distance or suffer the chaffe. HELP ME!!
I already did :)
ruclips.net/video/90LsRkqy8K0/видео.html
Didn’t show us anything. That took 5 minutes to say “join the sleeve to the body at 50 degrees”. Most of still don’t know what you’re talking about or how to do it.
Sorry for the confusion!
hello i have some serious issue with my shirts i dont know whats the problem can i send you pic of that shirt please resolve this if you have time please can i send??
Yeah hit me up @astylishD on IG
I love bat wings!😂
You never explained flying squirrel look.
Why didn’t you show how to correct it on a sewing machine or something?
Good question, I need to remake this video…
+Stylish D what kind of wireless mic are you using?
It's a cheap lav mic I got on Amazon for like $12.
thanks sd
You're welcome!
SUBSCRIBED!!!!
This doesn't help for those that have to see it in the works. Can this video be made with demo of a new shirt
Definitely need to remake this
Please remake! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
So what do I do?
You wait until I remake this crappy video haha! Stay tuned!
@@StylishDTailors I'm in luck that my project is for winter so I can wait but don't be long handsome ~❤️
Lol! My uploading pace means I’ll be just in time haha!
3 mins in, still no solution. Get. To. The. Point.
Yeah this is a pretty terrible video…I need to remake this!
I even watched it twice and I still dont know what you are talking about. lol
3rd times a charm :)
@@StylishDTailors I actually do know I even did it on a couple shirts. lol. thx
Trying to play the video that says it’s unavailable
Same, had to use a VPN.
Hmm, which one?
Stylish Dad The video might be restricted in certain countries for some reason
Oh weird. I've never had that happen before. What country are you in?
I wonder if it was me showing my chest or saying I have A cups. Interesting.
Are you literally just going to sew the length of the shirt, up into the arm pit and along the sleeve?
Correct
45 is common
Would a curve work?
Yep!
@@StylishDTailors Thanks SD!
Tried this- I still look ugly ... lol
Shave?
@@StylishDTailors HAHA. love the channel btw
Thanks bro! Did you shave yet?
@@StylishDTailors Yup lol
This guy is interesting
Thanks!
You're welcome
You showed me nothing.
Yeah I gotta remake this video...
Hmmmm. Thanks for the video, but just giving the angle isn't enough. The 50 degree line can be 50 miles and it can also be 0.1 inches. The angle and the length are needed to sew it correctly.
The length varies depending on the size of the shirt. If you sew a 50 mile stitch I want to be there, I'll bring the beer!
@@StylishDTailorsDon't challenge me. I'll find a place that sells an XXXXXXXXXXXXXXL and have that free beer.
But the 50 miles was an exaggeration. How would you go about knowing the length of the 50 degree side?
*Whoa whoa whoa whoa.....*
When did I say the beer was free...?
All that talk and nothing else 🤣🤣
Very true, I need to remake this one!
Just buy slim fit shirts. Problem solved.
Yes. But actually no lol
