What a great discussion! I enjoyed listening and relating to the different the insights and experiences of each of the panelists. I appreciated the questions around who the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show is targeted to and why it’s needed.

The sentiments in the first five minutes from the two gentlemen is exactly what Jerrod wanted.
Sympathy and to use blackness to validate his self inflicting experiences.

I think it's important to talk about black people who often become "infected" with patterns of thought that create a cognitive dissonance between the raced self and consciousness, and have grace for them. I think some times it's difficult for black people, especially those from predominantly black locations like Atlanta, to understand the consequence of a black person existing primarily in a white space and how it can breed ambivalence. if you ask me, Jerrod and Tyler "suffer" from ambivalence. I understand why it needs to be critiqued but I think it's important to have grace for black people like this. It's all survival at the end of the day.

This entire thing of unpacking. Which to me on this subject would just be the black gay gaze. That form of personalized scrutiny is really the denial of confusion and unapproachable understanding of something that could not be completely understood. It would be like trying to say why i am queer. And just has the heteronormative hegemony wanted answers the aforesaid not to gain understanding or insight but the loci where one can begin undoing something unapproachable to their understanding. Sometimes the place of not understanding and holding acceptance is the most benificiak mental position to have. And unpacking his show depersonalizes him and flattens his journey because in an assumption that external subjects can unpack this man’s life when his life and job are unpacking in comedy. And this lufeling unfolding would be in hubris lacking amity or open mindedness would attempt to dissect and undone him so he can be salvage and remade into an image or likeness more like those that judge. It really became glaring if i check my positionality and challenge my epistemology because with out such a check on this the faulty cognitive bias and foggy lens under which one barley unpacks ones on luggage beams an arch of violence not the compassion or understanding or the relinquishing of gaze standards and marginalizing tools we have picked up in our journey of assimilation to unpack or punch down on another black man. From my experience I have been most violently assailed by GBM and black people because of my lack of conformity. And that leaves some of the GBM diaspora without community and compounded rejection. I would encourage you to unpack why you want think and believe youcan unpack another persons issue. For what?. Not surprised just bored. p

Their interracial dating aside, the Jerrods and Tyler The Creators of the world aren't even desirable to most Black gay men. So why are ppl acting like they care about their actions, when they wouldn't look twice at them if they weren't famous?

In my opinion, his whole show was degrading. I think he could have found a better way to express his pain. 🤓
