This show is so well paced. Its important to remember that each season is based upon 2 or more books. So if you feel like somethings such as relationships are a bit sudden/out of the blue and progress quickly its because over the course of a season a lot more time has passed than it seems.

In this first season Uhtred is just so young and rash. He doesn't think farther than his own nose most of the time. He has a lot of maturing to do.
