This is inaccurate. In no way were the Des Moines class AA cruisers. The Des Moines class were entirely built around their 8" guns, for use on surface targets (they had a theoretical AA ability, but it was only theoretical, much like the pre-war British County class has a similar theoretical 8" AA ability). The Des Moines class certainly had a reasonable AA capability to be sure, but it was nothing exceptional.

Yes, obviously the Des Moines were built around their main guns, much as every other single warship in existence. You don't build ships for their secondary armament. But, in real war, your secondary armament may prove to be your raison d'etre. The Des Moines weren't "reasonable" AA platforms, they were exceptional ones. Their 5-inchers were a known quantity, but the main power came from the new 3-inch weapons that were a vast improvement over the already excellent 40mm Bofors used in most other USN warships. Until missile systems became actually reliable, the Des Moines were one of the best AA platforms on the sea (alongside the Worcester class cruisers).

The ships that were built as primarily surface combatants usually had main batteries that were anti-surface. And yet, when push came to shove, their secondary batteries ended up proving themselves the more important armament. War has a tendency of demolishing your plans. You can plan the most unbelievable surface combatant you wish, arm it to the teeth with anti-surface weapons, but if it never, or rarely, faces surface threats, and is instead often called on to provide AA support, then that is what you do.
The heal may not be able to be used to it's ultimate potential every use, but it gives you so much more resilience against DOT and non citadel pens. It's worth it.
The main thing I think Salem gives up from Des Moines is the ability to use the legendary mod. 1.5km radar range loss is inconvenient, but losing the ability to speed juke shots is really painful.
Unless your teammates are right next to you, they won't benefit much from your DFAA because the CV can just move out of your DFAA range and you'll have wasted a charge for no reason. More importantly, if said teammate is a potato, they're going to die anyway, so why waste my charge on them?
They die anyway. its not like AA helps much in this version. A Tier X Plane Squad got 60k HP! 60K!!! Your def AA doesnt help that much. btw. Potato does the same here and you dont attack him for the move so...
Well, I couldn't be bothered to play the line to dm, so I just got the Salem instead. She is so much fun when you manage to get up close and personal. Wrecks every cruiser 1v1. Takes skill to use, but rewards good play a lot
9:05 that destroyer totes relied on his smoke so much when you first started firing he was so nonchalant about getting going. Than comes radar and he’s painted permanently and dies. Guess he forgot about radar?
I have the salem and the des memes. For the most part, i think they are both equal in power level. DM has more flexability with radar and sonar, while the salem is better at holding its ground with its super heal. But, once the Des installs the legendary mod, i think it becomes better than the salem witch, just because avoiding damage completely is always better than taking it and later healing it. I still think the salem is a good ship (i enjoy playing it over its older sister), and i do think that it is worth the coal in the armory.
I have Salem and I'm glad I have her. Her primary advantage over Des Moines isn't the heal IMO, it's the fact that I can run her without any economic flags or one time use economic camo and not get taken to the cleaners on my service cost or credit earning. Pushing through FDG to get to GK before GK ends up in the armory ate up SOOOO much of my economic and special flag inventory because the alternative was being flat broke credit wise. I spec my 21 point captain to always run American cruisers with AA skills and it helps A LOT. I also notice that you didn't seem to be setting your priority sector for AA. Priority sector also helps A LOT. I've had plenty of CVs take a swipe at me and get chewed up pretty bad and not try me again. It's not always going to work but it helps. You are right about the inability to fully use the heals available to you because of unrepairable damage though. I rarely use up all my heals before the match is over or I'm dead in this ship. She also has phenomenal AP for a cruisers IMO. I mean opposing red team cruisers that are dumb enough to show me broadside (usually because they are trying to launch torps) tend to regret it pretty badly. I'd have probably tried to hit that Alaska broadside with some AP, no citadel there of course with an 8 inch gun but superstructure damage would be significant. And the gun fire rate makes her an extraordinary ribbon and damage farmer in Co Op. Only other ship that can match her in that respect in my fleet is Atlanta. When I got my Salem I only had Thunderer for a tier 10 and I needed a second tier that wasn't a battleship or destroyer so it was Salem or Yoshino. Haven't regretted choosing Salem at all. Now that I have GK and Gearing I probably won't play her as much (since I am still grinding tech tree ships) but she is still a great option for a tier 10 non tech tree ship IMO.
salem superheal can o ly show its full power when you brawl bow in to a ship , you activate the heal at the right timing, so the module won't be saturated while you are healing... How to explqain it? Basicly, you try to repair and absorb damage at the same time. Until the enemy realize that shooting Salem is useless

It's a good pick for CBs when there are no CVs around, it can definitely beat a Petro in a 1v1. Sadly, things like MVRs would just annihilate the poor cruiser.

Mogador has an awkward turret both in front and the back, and the difference in angle is huge, like 15 degrees or something like that. One of the big improvements Kleber has over Mogador is that all her turrets have the same amazing angle. While Minotaur has some of the best firing angles in the game, curiously enough her second front turret needs the biggest angle when shooting FORWARD.
About that turret issue, it happens at lower Tiers too. The New York and the Texas are the same class, but in the New York, Turret 3 gets stuck at a very bad angle so you almost have to give flat broadside to use it. But the Texas, while still pretty bad, gets something like 15 degrees better angle. And I know it was retrofitted in WW2 to carry more AA guns, but that shouldn't have any impact on where the turrets are in the hull or how far they can turn...
The same thing was bugging me as well. He even mentioned throughout the video of how he struggled to shoot down tier 8 planes. If only there was something that made AA more effective.

You get 1/4 of the service cost of normal tier 10s, and 20% more credits earned from the camo. However, it does’nt get any extra credit modifier like premium ships do.😊

I've been eyeing Salem since I discovered coal ships, and I love a superheal because I do fuck up too often, but what does she really offer over DM other than a much better heal? And you lose hydro too when you take radar.
As he mentioned the turrets on DM are better in terms of rotation and firing angles. Depends how you fuck up. If you get blasted with citadels it doesn't matter the heal, you will be able to heal a small amount of that HP. Personally I struggle playing the USN CA line but Im perfectly fine with Venezia, Zao, Wooster, Yoshino and Alaska.
Would you get Moskva or Salem first for Coal? I'm grinding coal right now and like both the russian light cruisers and both american cruiser lines. Getting Salem would mean I could focus on the US light cruisers first, but Moskva is also pretty temping.
Salem hands down, I have both, Salem is more useful to the team, especially now in the sub network. Don't worry about the radar, it sux, just use the hydro and stay near a radar cruiser or cover a cv. O like DM better overall, bit Salem is just as destructive in rabdoms, plus makes WAY more credits.

I used to play Salem with reload mod. I played a few games after the captain rework and I was just forced to switch to range mod. I could have gotten more dmg if I had range in those 3 games
Well, I am not sure about Salem, but in my DM (I got her after the commander skill rework), I started playing her with the range mod and had really average games. As I changed to the reload mod, I became more agressive and aware of the game and became a lot better player. Thus, I think that reload mod is better in terms of damage output, based on my experience, at least
@@piotrwosiak before the rework I was maintaining an avg dmg of 130k ish, then I started getting 100k. Most of the times ships are just not in range to shoot.
@@sahydes my thoughts? Just play how it's supposed to be played - support DDs. The damage will rack up over the course of the game. I have to admit that I'm far from being the best DM player, but unless I do something very stupid (which is not difficult in a DM as it's very fragile), I can do easily 130k damage or more on a regular basis, just by sticking to supporting our DDs. When enemy DDs are eliminated, I may push easily. Moreover, if I am lucky, I will be given a smoke from a friendly player and thus I can push the BBs furthest away
The Minotaur and Salem heals heal for the same HP % per heal, but they heal that damage differently. The Salem heal (and nearly all other cruiser heals) heals 100% of fire/flooding damage, 50% of standard pen damage (SAP and HE pens and AP pens and overpens), and 33% of citadel damage. The Minotaur heal heals 100% of fire/flooding damage, 50% of standard pen damage (SAP and HE pens and AP pens and overpens), and 50% of citadel damage. This means if a DM and a Salem both take 30k in pure citadel damage they'll both heal 10k of it back, but DM will need to use two heal charges to get that HP back. Meanwhile a Minotaur will heal 15k and do it in one heal charge.

I got Salem the other day as my first coal ship, and it might be just because I'm mostly ending up matched against Tier 10 ships, but it definitely feels underwhelming in terms of how much damage it is able to tank. The heal isn't that useful when you're taking huge amounts of AP damage, and I'm basically being forced to play as if I were in a light cruiser. Honestly Alaska is the only US cruiser that truly feels like a heavy cruiser to me... The rest are light and lighter lol.
@@DS-ju2sq don't be too hasty. Salem is soft sure but to me all of the non super cruisers are soft. And Salem positively will wreck any other non super cruiser in a 1V1 because her guns hit so fast and so hard. Honestly the game has ended up having a three tier cruiser system (pretty much 4 now with the new German battle cruisers but that's more of a two tier BB system) with light cruisers, heavy cruisers (like Salem) and super cruisers (like Stalingrad, Napoli, Yoshino and Alaska). Proper angling against cruisers is crucial. Avoiding battleships that overmatch you is critical. This ship will straight up wreck anything of her own class or smaller though and she is death on DDs if they get too close to her guns.
You didn't use DEF AA when it would have helped your team and a couple times you could have switched to AP on broadside BB's and didn't; though perhaps the range reduced the AP pen and made HE preferable. I'd have to double check the ranges and look at penetration curve for Des Moines / Salem AP. The Des Moines with Legendary Mod used to be much more fun to play than Salem, but now that Range Mod has become so much more useful; make that necessary, you might as well play the Salem with its better heal.
I have a question and that is: Is it normal that you can shoot down an FDR Squadron within seconds, in a Marceau, without having trained AA? Of course I had the sector right and DEF AA, but that was such big numbers 5-30k dmg within seconds. I mean, the CV only attacked me twice with a full squadron and I shot both of them. A total of 22 planes and 90k plane dmg. I was really surprised, normally hardly a CV attacks me but the FDR wanted to attack my zao and I helped him.
Sure you can, in theory. Reinforcement gives instant 5% damage to a Squad, so that's at least 2.5k. Biggest stock HP squad on FDR has 52k hp. The big weakness of FDR planes are the flak clouds, which deal massive damage. Marceau gets ~1.7K per cloud and 3-4 clouds. So If the CV is a potato and goes through them, thats ~7K damage. Or 1/4 of the squad dead (+ continous aa damage). FDR is only a scary CV if a good player rides it cuz you can exploit so many game mechanics to push the damage way over the top. It could also be that he dropped a fighter squad over you that got shot down from Zao and you, which you might not realised in the heat of the battle. If a CV hardly attacks you, than you do something right, but I can assure you that Marceaus are breakfast in the book of CVs.
@@mrz3r085 yeah, I am German. Well it's not that fun to attack dds since they nerfed the mechanics a lot if favor of dds. It's just a necessarity and due to dds mispositioning themselfs. A dd that contests a cap or spots in an aggressive position your team is a major threat which a good cv can't ignore. It's more fun to just farm BBs but if you play for the win you have to control the red dds especially since the majority of dds out there have no clue what they are doing or suiciding. So thats one way to have a major impact and surpress the enemy. And well if I play cv I don't care about hallands, you can simply outspot them most of the time and kill them that way since hallands have a hard time to disengage and most often fell into the trap to use their aa to outspot themselfs and if worth you can still get a strike through that can be crippling or give your own dd the edge needed to win a gunfight in your teama favor.

Deshalb ist es immer traurig mit anzusehen, wenn die eigenen DDs so eine scheiße bauen. Dafür heute mit Gearing ne Salem das ganze Spiel gesmoked und 125K spotting gemacht. Am Ende war ich unten im leaderbord, aber der Salemspieler hatte wohl das Spiel seines Lebens und war mehr als dankbar für das gute teamplay. Egal welche Klasse, am Ende ist man trotzdem abhängig und daher mag ich eher Schiffe, die carryen können, wenn es drauf ankommt, also impact erzeugen, weil man sich sicher sein kann, egal wie gut dein trade war, dein team findet eine Lösung den Vorteil wegzuwerfen. :-) Mittlerweile finden sich nur leider mehr BBs und weniger DDs und man ist dankbar um jeden kompetenten DD, den man antrifft. Ich hatte heute ein game in dem ich mit der Moskau 3 von 4 dds early rausgenommen habe, was mich ebenfalls das Leben gekostet hat. In Epicenter. Meine gearing ist stattdessen komplett am maprand rum gesegelt, mit einer Venezia eskorte um eine kitende Moskau zu jagen... bis die Moskau mal radar angemacht und beide ez rausgenommen hat... das sind einfach Momente wg. denen man gerne freiwillig deinstallieren will... CVs machen Spaß, wenn du sie magst, fahr sie ruhig. CV hater gibt es überall, aber die gab es auch vor dem rework. Und es gibt den kleinen Teil, der sie kritisiert, wg. der Mechaniken, teils zu recht, aber den viel größeren, der sie hatet, weil sie einfach potatoes sind und keine Ahnung haben. Am Ende ist es aber natürlich ein Spiel und erlaubt sollte sein, was Spaß macht. ;-) Und um vllt. nochmal was zum Video zu sagen: PQ meint Salems heal ist overhyped, aber das gleiche kann man auch über radar oder DM legmod sagen. Sieht man das ganze wieder aus einem competetive pov, dann gewinnt salem wieder. Immer alles relativ und situativ.
You should try hydro reload mod salem. Play an aggressive pushing playstyle, using super heal to give you enough health to make the play. i switch to this after a hundred games of boring sniping gameplay and it's great. As long as you pick your fight, make use of openings on the flanks, you can easily take down 2-3 ships and win the side for your team.
I need only 80k of coal for earn Salem, I already have Des Moines and I think they're both great ships, I love Des Moines with legendary module and Halsey, and I don't doubts about Salem, is not a broken ship like potato said :)
Great video of a somewhat overlooked ship. I think you forgot to mention that the Salem also gets faster damage con. reload (DD level of reload time) though I'm not sure.
The heal is the same as the other T8-10 RN cruisers, according to the wiki, so I believe it does, barring any minor statistical variations like citadel damage percentage it can heal.
As much as i love good turret traverse i go dispersion. I just want shells to hit when i aim right. All is for naught though as you will never get citadels on russian ships as i swear they have a hidden extra dispersion against stat. I do agree range is needed with how they changed the game. Or else you are setting up "ambushes" and pray someone comes into your trap. Or else its island hide simulator.
You didn't lose because of what you did, you lost because some cry baby in an Ibuki didn't want to get his paint scratched and because your DDs wanted to go back to port as quickly as possible. It was lost from the very beginning.
Really? I got Georgia just two weeks before it was taken out of armoury. Main reason why I bought the Georgia is the overmatch which makes you powerful against everything except high tier bow-in BBs. I also got my highest damage game in Georgia as well (202K and 219K in random and ranked respectively). Salem and Des Moines are DPM monsters, agreed. But the fact that you can citadel those two ships through the nose is amazing (I citadeled a nose-in Des Moines in my Georgia today). I also have no problem shaving off at least 15K HP off a nose-in Alaska. Georgia might take you some time getting used to if you haven't played American BBs earlier, but Georgia is fun for sure.
Yeah people complain coz they are wasted point in a no cv game. If you spec AA you won't be disappointed. I did that to my Atlanta and the lifes of t6 cv a misery even t8 dropped me and lost entire rocket squad. It's only fair for the cv to get 1 drop successfully.

I was the Amagi that rushed up the middle that game. I was getting nothing done and decided I wanted to die my way instead of being stuck in that aweful potential crossfire. Was funny.
Eh you gain a super heal but lose the quick acceleration. Salem is better in division when it can be given smoke cover by div mates. Des Moines is just a straight up better choice should you ever decided to rough it in ransoms. Des Moines is far more flexible than Salem, but Salem gains some better HP recovery.
same here, after playing 18k battles it was just not my thing anymore after the reworks and the cv trash, but i still like watching wows videos but more and more shows me why stop playing was a good choice lol
So....what do you like? It seems like every vid I watch is you not being happy Salem is great and the heal is great. CV are suppose to kick you out of position.

You have Def AA and you didn't use it once, at least 1st half of the game.
Because you only use it on yourself when you are attacked by CV. Dont use it for other players.

You should zoom out 1x while playing ships with slow shells. Fully zoomed in, it's difficult to hit the target at medium to long range.

Her primary advantage over Des Moines isn't the heal IMO, it's the fact that I can run her without any economic flags or one time use economic camo and not get taken to the cleaners on my service cost or credit earning. Pushing through FDG to get to GK before GK ends up in the armory ate up SOOOO much of my economic and special flag inventory because the alternative was being flat broke credit wise.
I spec my 21 point captain to always run American cruisers with AA skills and it helps A LOT. I also notice that you didn't seem to be setting your priority sector for AA. Priority sector also helps A LOT. I've had plenty of CVs take a swipe at me and get chewed up pretty bad and not try me again. It's not always going to work but it helps.
You are right about the inability to fully use the heals available to you because of unrepairable damage though. I rarely use up all my heals before the match is over or I'm dead in this ship.
She also has phenomenal AP for a cruisers IMO. I mean opposing red team cruisers that are dumb enough to show me broadside (usually because they are trying to launch torps) tend to regret it pretty badly. I'd have probably tried to hit that Alaska broadside with some AP, no citadel there of course with an 8 inch gun but superstructure damage would be significant. And the gun fire rate makes her an extraordinary ribbon and damage farmer in Co Op. Only other ship that can match her in that respect in my fleet is Atlanta.
When I got my Salem I only had Thunderer for a tier 10 and I needed a second tier that wasn't a battleship or destroyer so it was Salem or Yoshino. Haven't regretted choosing Salem at all. Now that I have GK and Gearing I probably won't play her as much (since I am still grinding tech tree ships) but she is still a great option for a tier 10 non tech tree ship IMO.

You forgot to mention Salem has slightly worse AAA too. I do play it because it earns more $$$ than a DM.
salem superheal can o ly show its full power when you brawl bow in to a ship , you activate the heal at the right timing, so the module won't be saturated while you are healing...
How to explqain it?

It's a good pick for CBs when there are no CVs around, it can definitely beat a Petro in a 1v1. Sadly, things like MVRs would just annihilate the poor cruiser.

Mogador has an awkward turret both in front and the back, and the difference in angle is huge, like 15 degrees or something like that. One of the big improvements Kleber has over Mogador is that all her turrets have the same amazing angle.
While Minotaur has some of the best firing angles in the game, curiously enough her second front turret needs the biggest angle when shooting FORWARD.
About that turret issue, it happens at lower Tiers too. The New York and the Texas are the same class, but in the New York, Turret 3 gets stuck at a very bad angle so you almost have to give flat broadside to use it.
But the Texas, while still pretty bad, gets something like 15 degrees better angle. And I know it was retrofitted in WW2 to carry more AA guns, but that shouldn't have any impact on where the turrets are in the hull or how far they can turn...
Not sure why you never used your AA consumable. Fairly good on Salem.
The same thing was bugging me as well. He even mentioned throughout the video of how he struggled to shoot down tier 8 planes. If only there was something that made AA more effective.

How good is Salem in terms of earning credits?
You get 1/4 of the service cost of normal tier 10s, and 20% more credits earned from the camo. However, it does’nt get any extra credit modifier like premium ships do.😊

I've been eyeing Salem since I discovered coal ships, and I love a superheal because I do fuck up too often, but what does she really offer over DM other than a much better heal? And you lose hydro too when you take radar.
As he mentioned the turrets on DM are better in terms of rotation and firing angles. Depends how you fuck up. If you get blasted with citadels it doesn't matter the heal, you will be able to heal a small amount of that HP. Personally I struggle playing the USN CA line but Im perfectly fine with Venezia, Zao, Wooster, Yoshino and Alaska.
Got Salem. Never play it. Get the Alaska instead.

Would you get Moskva or Salem first for Coal? I'm grinding coal right now and like both the russian light cruisers and both american cruiser lines. Getting Salem would mean I could focus on the US light cruisers first, but Moskva is also pretty temping.

Salem hands down, I have both, Salem is more useful to the team, especially now in the sub network. Don't worry about the radar, it sux, just use the hydro and stay near a radar cruiser or cover a cv. O like DM better overall, bit Salem is just as destructive in rabdoms, plus makes WAY more credits.

I used to play Salem with reload mod. I played a few games after the captain rework and I was just forced to switch to range mod. I could have gotten more dmg if I had range in those 3 games
Well, I am not sure about Salem, but in my DM (I got her after the commander skill rework), I started playing her with the range mod and had really average games. As I changed to the reload mod, I became more agressive and aware of the game and became a lot better player. Thus, I think that reload mod is better in terms of damage output, based on my experience, at least
@@piotrwosiak before the rework I was maintaining an avg dmg of 130k ish, then I started getting 100k. Most of the times ships are just not in range to shoot.
@@sahydes my thoughts? Just play how it's supposed to be played - support DDs. The damage will rack up over the course of the game. I have to admit that I'm far from being the best DM player, but unless I do something very stupid (which is not difficult in a DM as it's very fragile), I can do easily 130k damage or more on a regular basis, just by sticking to supporting our DDs. When enemy DDs are eliminated, I may push easily. Moreover, if I am lucky, I will be given a smoke from a friendly player and thus I can push the BBs furthest away
The Minotaur and Salem heals heal for the same HP % per heal, but they heal that damage differently.
The Salem heal (and nearly all other cruiser heals) heals 100% of fire/flooding damage, 50% of standard pen damage (SAP and HE pens and AP pens and overpens), and 33% of citadel damage.
The Minotaur heal heals 100% of fire/flooding damage, 50% of standard pen damage (SAP and HE pens and AP pens and overpens), and 50% of citadel damage.
This means if a DM and a Salem both take 30k in pure citadel damage they'll both heal 10k of it back, but DM will need to use two heal charges to get that HP back. Meanwhile a Minotaur will heal 15k and do it in one heal charge.

You're probably thinking of Conqueror, which heals 75% pen damage.

I got Salem the other day as my first coal ship, and it might be just because I'm mostly ending up matched against Tier 10 ships, but it definitely feels underwhelming in terms of how much damage it is able to tank. The heal isn't that useful when you're taking huge amounts of AP damage, and I'm basically being forced to play as if I were in a light cruiser. Honestly Alaska is the only US cruiser that truly feels like a heavy cruiser to me... The rest are light and lighter lol.

@@DS-ju2sq don't be too hasty. Salem is soft sure but to me all of the non super cruisers are soft. And Salem positively will wreck any other non super cruiser in a 1V1 because her guns hit so fast and so hard. Honestly the game has ended up having a three tier cruiser system (pretty much 4 now with the new German battle cruisers but that's more of a two tier BB system) with light cruisers, heavy cruisers (like Salem) and super cruisers (like Stalingrad, Napoli, Yoshino and Alaska). Proper angling against cruisers is crucial. Avoiding battleships that overmatch you is critical. This ship will straight up wreck anything of her own class or smaller though and she is death on DDs if they get too close to her guns.

You didn't use DEF AA when it would have helped your team and a couple times you could have switched to AP on broadside BB's and didn't; though perhaps the range reduced the AP pen and made HE preferable. I'd have to double check the ranges and look at penetration curve for Des Moines / Salem AP.
The Des Moines with Legendary Mod used to be much more fun to play than Salem, but now that Range Mod has become so much more useful; make that necessary, you might as well play the Salem with its better heal.
I don't recall seeing him use priority sector AA either. And when that Alaska was broadside I kept expecting him to go to AP but nope.....
I have a question and that is: Is it normal that you can shoot down an FDR Squadron within seconds, in a Marceau, without having trained AA? Of course I had the sector right and DEF AA, but that was such big numbers 5-30k dmg within seconds. I mean, the CV only attacked me twice with a full squadron and I shot both of them. A total of 22 planes and 90k plane dmg. I was really surprised, normally hardly a CV attacks me but the FDR wanted to attack my zao and I helped him.
Sure you can, in theory. Reinforcement gives instant 5% damage to a Squad, so that's at least 2.5k. Biggest stock HP squad on FDR has 52k hp. The big weakness of FDR planes are the flak clouds, which deal massive damage. Marceau gets ~1.7K per cloud and 3-4 clouds. So If the CV is a potato and goes through them, thats ~7K damage. Or 1/4 of the squad dead (+ continous aa damage).
FDR is only a scary CV if a good player rides it cuz you can exploit so many game mechanics to push the damage way over the top. It could also be that he dropped a fighter squad over you that got shot down from Zao and you, which you might not realised in the heat of the battle. If a CV hardly attacks you, than you do something right, but I can assure you that Marceaus are breakfast in the book of CVs.

@@mrz3r085 yeah, I am German. Well it's not that fun to attack dds since they nerfed the mechanics a lot if favor of dds. It's just a necessarity and due to dds mispositioning themselfs. A dd that contests a cap or spots in an aggressive position your team is a major threat which a good cv can't ignore. It's more fun to just farm BBs but if you play for the win you have to control the red dds especially since the majority of dds out there have no clue what they are doing or suiciding. So thats one way to have a major impact and surpress the enemy. And well if I play cv I don't care about hallands, you can simply outspot them most of the time and kill them that way since hallands have a hard time to disengage and most often fell into the trap to use their aa to outspot themselfs and if worth you can still get a strike through that can be crippling or give your own dd the edge needed to win a gunfight in your teama favor.

Deshalb ist es immer traurig mit anzusehen, wenn die eigenen DDs so eine scheiße bauen. Daher spiele ich erstmal weiterhin nur DDs, die anderen Klassen liegen mir auch nicht so, vielleicht noch Cvs nach dem Rework xD aber sonst BBs gar nicht.
@@mrz3r085 Ich spiele gerne DDs, aber wenn ich wie heute mitansehen muss wie mein Team mich manchmal im Stich lässt. 140K mit der Daring und zwei BBs stehen hinter einer Insel hinter dem CV... da willste das keyboard einfach nur wegwerfen. Dafür heute mit Gearing ne Salem das ganze Spiel gesmoked und 125K spotting gemacht. Am Ende war ich unten im leaderbord, aber der Salemspieler hatte wohl das Spiel seines Lebens und war mehr als dankbar für das gute teamplay. Egal welche Klasse, am Ende ist man trotzdem abhängig und daher mag ich eher Schiffe, die carryen können, wenn es drauf ankommt, also impact erzeugen, weil man sich sicher sein kann, egal wie gut dein trade war, dein team findet eine Lösung den Vorteil wegzuwerfen. :-)
Mittlerweile finden sich nur leider mehr BBs und weniger DDs und man ist dankbar um jeden kompetenten DD, den man antrifft.
Ich hatte heute ein game in dem ich mit der Moskau 3 von 4 dds early rausgenommen habe, was mich ebenfalls das Leben gekostet hat. In Epicenter.
Meine gearing ist stattdessen komplett am maprand rum gesegelt, mit einer Venezia eskorte um eine kitende Moskau zu jagen... bis die Moskau mal radar angemacht und beide ez rausgenommen hat... das sind einfach Momente wg. denen man gerne freiwillig deinstallieren will...
CVs machen Spaß, wenn du sie magst, fahr sie ruhig. CV hater gibt es überall, aber die gab es auch vor dem rework.
Und es gibt den kleinen Teil, der sie kritisiert, wg. der Mechaniken, teils zu recht, aber den viel größeren, der sie hatet, weil sie einfach potatoes sind und keine Ahnung haben.
Am Ende ist es aber natürlich ein Spiel und erlaubt sollte sein, was Spaß macht. ;-)
Und um vllt. nochmal was zum Video zu sagen:
PQ meint Salems heal ist overhyped, aber das gleiche kann man auch über radar oder DM legmod sagen. Sieht man das ganze wieder aus einem competetive pov, dann gewinnt salem wieder.

You should try hydro reload mod salem. Play an aggressive pushing playstyle, using super heal to give you enough health to make the play. i switch to this after a hundred games of boring sniping gameplay and it's great. As long as you pick your fight, make use of openings on the flanks, you can easily take down 2-3 ships and win the side for your team.

You don't shoot down that many planes coz HE breaks a lot of AA mounts and using AP on RN cv is good coz HE might shatter due to armored deck.

I think you forgot to mention that the Salem also gets faster damage con. reload (DD level of reload time) though I'm not sure.

The heal is the same as the other T8-10 RN cruisers, according to the wiki, so I believe it does, barring any minor statistical variations like citadel damage percentage it can heal.

As much as i love good turret traverse i go dispersion. I just want shells to hit when i aim right. All is for naught though as you will never get citadels on russian ships as i swear they have a hidden extra dispersion against stat.
I do agree range is needed with how they changed the game. Or else you are setting up "ambushes" and pray someone comes into your trap. Or else its island hide simulator.

Really? I got Georgia just two weeks before it was taken out of armoury. Main reason why I bought the Georgia is the overmatch which makes you powerful against everything except high tier bow-in BBs.
I also got my highest damage game in Georgia as well (202K and 219K in random and ranked respectively). Salem and Des Moines are DPM monsters, agreed. But the fact that you can citadel those two ships through the nose is amazing (I citadeled a nose-in Des Moines in my Georgia today).
I also have no problem shaving off at least 15K HP off a nose-in Alaska.
Georgia might take you some time getting used to if you haven't played American BBs earlier, but Georgia is fun for sure.

Yeah people complain coz they are wasted point in a no cv game. If you spec AA you won't be disappointed. I did that to my Atlanta and the lifes of t6 cv a misery even t8 dropped me and lost entire rocket squad. It's only fair for the cv to get 1 drop successfully.

@@TheSpasticator it won give you additional flak burst, you need the AA module in 6th slot for that. and when you see DM was like one of the best AA ships back them and here you see this of course you will complain. i mean back in the day when i had Gneisenau a T8 CV was saying how much AA you have man, Cause back in the day you had mid range flaks plus Gnei for its tier have or had high damage long range AA but not its dosent matter

I have both ships. I'll take the DM with Halsey and the leg mod over Salem everytime. Both are good but DM is a step above IMHO.

I was the Amagi that rushed up the middle that game. I was getting nothing done and decided I wanted to die my way instead of being stuck in that aweful potential crossfire. Was funny.
Eh you gain a super heal but lose the quick acceleration. Salem is better in division when it can be given smoke cover by div mates. Des Moines is just a straight up better choice should you ever decided to rough it in ransoms. Des Moines is far more flexible than Salem, but Salem gains some better HP recovery.
