I have never appreciated Namjoon so much. To be able to be in the public eye of the US and be able to keep his cool and represent his members well, that must have taken a lot of courage and perseverance. I am incredibly proud of him.
This year BTS were the highlight of the BBMA wether you knew them or not, but I think a performance from them would have left everyone even more shook.

Namjoon appreciation post. Since I found Bts I've been impressed with Joonie's talent and brains. He has taken the responsibility long ago to be the face of Bts, which includes speaking English during international interviews and translating for the boys. He did an amazing job during the Wings Tour in the USA and during the BBMAS interviews. He said he was nervous during the Vlive last night, however he held himself together, and expressed what he wanted to say perfectly, especially during their award speech. I'm sure he also spoke a lot of English to other celebrities. I couldn't imagine a better leader. Almost 2 years later I'm still impressed and appreciate him SO MUCH. Not an army or bts fan since im more into BIGBANG AND YG artists. But im just seriously super super duper duper happy and proud for them. FOR REAL!!! I even cried when they won. Like, im not really faking this. Im so happy.. All their hard works are so so worth it. God really love those people whose working for their dreams. It so cute on how they're fanboying to all the artists in BBMA. And i still remember on how BTS said before that BIGBANG are their inspiration. Im so happy.. I can't!!.. Their award isn't just for them but also for their fans and for the entire KPOP INDUSTRY.. And i just hope that BTS will stay their feet on the ground and won't have a big head. Bless YG's Pet Chicken I totally agree. Bts isn't my fav group, I do like them, but it's so awesome to see kpop being represented and also to see asian artists win awards at an american award show.

I'm not a big BTS fan (although I think Jimin is a really good dancer) but it makes me happy to see a kpop group getting recognized outside of Asia. They're really showing the world that kpop groups are talented and full of charisma. They can sing and rap and their dancing is just amazing. More people need to appreciate kpop in general!
K-pop has been getting big for the last few years. Conan O'Brien and Steven Yeun (of The Walking Dead fame) worked with JYP, and Twice and that got a lot of attention in the US.

The "any tours in the us" question gives them bragging rights about their sold out shows so I'm okay with it. The highlight after that is Namjoons humble response... I have hearts in my eyes they truly are some of the best role models in the music industry. Respect.

OMG yes. i've always wanted them to speak in english when i first got into them. but now that im familiar with korean i feel comfortable when they speak in korean. but im so proud that rapmon handled all the inteviews professionally and all the others also made an effort to talk even small english words. im so happy for them. i hope that all of them will be happy like this throughout the coming years

I think there was a misunderstanding. She asked about future tour dates and that could mean some other things. In some cases artists know when their next tour is coming up and they know the month or months. Even when they are working on other projects. She might have thought that they knew when they have their next tour dates. It's an honest question and a mistake.
For those who don't know BTS: In English they are usually just called BTS or Bangtan boys. Bangtan means bulletproof. Their music represents young people. By bulletproof they mean that they are like a shield, protecting our generation from the criticism it constantly gets. You would have to get pretty deep into their lyrics to understand though. They write the music themselves and produce some of the songs too. There's a lot of social and political commentary in the lyrics, music vidoes, and even the choreography, including calling out specific politicians (Am I Wrong), paying tribute to the kids that died in the Sewol tragedy (Spring Day), and using lyrics inspired by a Martin Luther King speech (Not Today) to encourage collective action to fight for what we want.
These interviews make me a little angry. RapMon is an ESL speaker. He's damn good but he's not perfect. Yet these interviewers all talk so fast and use so many colloquialisms. You can see him struggle to understand in parts, even on easy questions, just because of the delivery. Slow it down a tad dudes, you'll get more meaningful interviews.
Yeah, even as a native English speaker it took me a whole second to understand her sometimes. Like she worded some of her questions kind of awkwardly and then she was speaking 100mph on top of that.

Especially last night I noticed how amazing Rapmon is at communicating, it wasn't an easy task for him but he did it in the end and his winning speech was wonderful, that's all that matters. But anyways next time they should be interviewed by people who at least know annyeonghaseyo. lol
linaeagle I don't believe they need to know any korean at all. Its not necessary and not really useful knowledge in the US. Although some basic knowledge of the group would be a bonus (the interviewer who didn't even know that only RapMon spoke English was a thing). But honestly, just some common courtesy to speak in a way they understand. I watched more than one interview where there was a person behind camera who 'translated' for RapMon. And by translated I mean they said the question again In English but at a slower speed. And shockingly he understood just fine. Time could be saved if they just spoke slow to begin with. I'm passionate about this. Maybe its because I am an ESL teacher in Korea. But it makes me sad when people who are so good at English are made to feel inadequate because native speakers can't slow down just a little. (Funnily it happens even more in reverse. Korean speakers will speak at normal speed and use colloquialisms with me and I'm terrible at Korean. Even worse, many people laugh when foreigners mess up. But that doesn't mean English speakers can't be nice.)

Like, im not really faking this. Im so happy.. All their hard works are so so worth it. God really love those people whose working for their dreams. I'm not a big BTS fan (although I think Jimin is a really good dancer) but it makes me happy to see a kpop group getting recognized outside of Asia. They're really showing the world that kpop groups are talented and full of charisma. They can sing and rap and their dancing is just amazing. More people need to appreciate kpop in general!
K-pop has been getting big for the last few years. Conan O'Brien and Steven Yeun (of The Walking Dead fame) worked with JYP, and Twice and that got a lot of attention in the US.

I think there was a misunderstanding. She asked about future tour dates and that could mean some other things. In some cases artists know when their next tour is coming up and they know the month or months. Even when they are working on other projects. She might have thought that they knew when they have their next tour dates. It's an honest question and a mistake.

For those who don't know BTS: In English they are usually just called BTS or Bangtan boys. Bangtan means bulletproof. Their music represents young people. By bulletproof they mean that they are like a shield, protecting our generation from the criticism it constantly gets. You would have to get pretty deep into their lyrics to understand though. They write the music themselves and produce some of the songs too. There's a lot of social and political commentary in the lyrics, music vidoes, and even the choreography, including calling out specific politicians (Am I Wrong), paying tribute to the kids that died in the Sewol tragedy (Spring Day), and using lyrics inspired by a Martin Luther King speech (Not Today) to encourage collective action to fight for what we want.

These interviews make me a little angry.
RapMon is an ESL speaker. He's damn good but he's not perfect. Yet these interviewers all talk so fast and use so many colloquialisms. You can see him struggle to understand in parts, even on easy questions, just because of the delivery. Slow it down a tad dudes, you'll get more meaningful interviews.
Yeah, even as a native English speaker it took me a whole second to understand her sometimes. Like she worded some of her questions kind of awkwardly and then she was speaking 100mph on top of that.
Exactly!! During the first few seconds I paused and was like: "Could you talk any faster? Slow down, girl!" I had to prepare myself before I was able to continue watching the video. She was probably unaware... but still... it was unprofessional and kinda ignorant tbh

Especially last night I noticed how amazing Rapmon is at communicating, it wasn't an easy task for him but he did it in the end and his winning speech was wonderful, that's all that matters. But anyways next time they should be interviewed by people who at least know annyeonghaseyo. lol
linaeagle I don't believe they need to know any korean at all. Its not necessary and not really useful knowledge in the US. Although some basic knowledge of the group would be a bonus (the interviewer who didn't even know that only RapMon spoke English was a thing).
But honestly, just some common courtesy to speak in a way they understand. I watched more than one interview where there was a person behind camera who 'translated' for RapMon. And by translated I mean they said the question again In English but at a slower speed. And shockingly he understood just fine. Time could be saved if they just spoke slow to begin with.
I'm passionate about this. Maybe its because I am an ESL teacher in Korea. But it makes me sad when people who are so good at English are made to feel inadequate because native speakers can't slow down just a little.
(Funnily it happens even more in reverse. Korean speakers will speak at normal speed and use colloquialisms with me and I'm terrible at Korean. Even worse, many people laugh when foreigners mess up. But that doesn't mean English speakers can't be nice.)

I was literally shaking when I heard Logan Paul say *and the billboard music award goes to...... BTS* I screamed my lungs out cried/sobbed😭 and then started chanting their names and hugging 🤗 the freaking TV💝💯 They made us proud ARMY😭❤️💯
