That is his wife (pregnant with their twins--they now have 5 kids) Morgane who often sings harmony with him. This is a cover but he's an in demand songwriter for others and has written many of his own songs, plays guitar like nobody else and has that distinctive voice.

I just came off reacting to your reaction to Home Free, and I was really talking them up, saying how unbelievably versatile and great they are (all 100% true, and I'm betting you'll agree more and more as you hear more and more of their songs). Now I walk right into this number, by one of my other top 5 artists, and if I try to explain his greatness, you'll think I just see everyone as top tier.
Not so!
Listen to this guy's "Cold" and "I was Wrong" and "What are You Listening To," (always go for the LIVE versions, and also for his award show versions, as when he sings at the Country Music Award) and I bet you all the money in the world (well, I would, if I had it) that just as with Home Free, when you listen to more of their music, you will become a HUGE fan.
Stapleton is from Kentucky and is classed as country, but he is primarily a musician/artist, who has lived and breathed music, and because of that he is steeped in great music-- R&B, soul, the blues, and the great artists in all of those...and you can hear it in his singing and guitar playing.
Bottom line, a lifetime of music is reflected in his work, so he has created his own genre out of all his listening and experience (he's been in some groups in the past, and has been writing hits for other artists, in various genres, for years, and only relatively recently started out on his own, singing his own songs).
I feel the same about Chris as what I wrote about Home Free-- these are both exceptional, amazing, special artists who are on a level far above that of most other artists.

It’s really hard to put this man in a genre box. He’s soul and blues with a side of country to me. He was a songwriter for many years. Wrote for many stars of all genres. That is his wife on stage with him. He used to get a bit of stage fright or so I understand. She talked him in to singing some of his own music and now we have one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard. You literally feel his music. It’s rare to find a singer that is as good or better live than in studio.
So many good songs! Always listen to the live version if possible! I would recommend Cold at the CMA Awards next. Others that you’ll want to hear are. I Was Wrong, Either Way, Sometimes I Cry, Death Row. A performance with Justin Timberlake also at the CMA Awards. He has only done 1 music video…Fire Away. Grab a tissue for that one

If your a guitar guy you need to watch a live performance with Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, and Vince Gill. 3 of the greatest country guitar players ever. They are playing Keith’s hit song “blue’s not your color” and their all great vocalists but the whole song is done instrumentaly till the end when Keith finishes it vocally.
You made the best decision EVER by heading for the live version -- Chris Stapleton live is where it;'s at! And yes, love to see that relationship with his wife, Morgane. True love.

Live. Always, always listen to Chris live. The only exception I would make is "Death Row." Hard to get that background atmosphere live. Do not miss "Sometimes I Cry" & "Barely Alive" Live at The Bing Lounge. Everything he does is fire but those 2 are master classes in bringin' it. One man & his guitar.
This is actually a cover of an old country song. He is a songwriter though who has written 100s of songs for himself and other artists. And yes that is his wife, she can hold her own singing with him too.

Chris doesn't generally do music videos. Just not his thing. Live Chris is best Chris. The studio recordings tend to smooth out that slight scratchiness to his voice that is so beautiful. He does have one MV out that is a _must-see,_ called "Fire Away". There are also a handful of others, usually with other artists like Chris with Justin Timberlake doing "Say Something".

I was thrilled when you switched to the Live performance! So much SOUL and really showcases his raw vocals and instrumentation. His lovely wife Morgane sings incredible harmony with her man too 😉. Her joining him onstage makes the song even more meaningful.

You just stuck a toe in the lake. Keep going and always look for the live performances. Way better than recordings. He does some amazing covers too. James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's World", The Allman Bros "Whipping Post", Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". He was also in two bands before going solo, The Jompsons (rock band) and The Steeldriver's (Bluegrass band).

If not for his wife, we probably would never have heard Chris. He has been writing music for so many star for years. But Chris had terrible stage fright. Morgan being on stage with him gives him strength. And she has a stunning voice to. Check out Cold and Watch you burn. Which was written by Chris after the Las Vegas mass shooting. Very powerful

This is an vover song one of the very few he sings that he did not write. The lady is his wife Morgane. She tours with him. Seen them twice and gets better each time. Love how he looks at her and gives her that slight smile. She is a singer in her own right. The onle video I've seen him do is when he sang Fire Away, he played the bartender and when he and JustinTimberlakedid a duet Say Something. He doesn't like doing videos. He is actually very shy.

However, If you want to see the absolute greatest live performance ever, then you must check out Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart’s version of “I’d Rather Go Blind” from their Live in Amsterdam concert. I promise you it’s the best live performance that you’ll EVER see, and I can assure you that you’ll be completely blown away! Joe is the smoothest blues and soul guitarist ever, and Beth? Yes, that's Morgane Stapleton. They have 5 kids together. She sings backup and they do duets all the time. IMO, Chris is generally better and more comfortable with her there, but that's not always viable. This song, however, was written in the way back, way back machine by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and originally recorded and released by David Allen Coe in 1981. It's.... not like this though. Coe has his own brand of country, but it's not soulful. Or Rhythm and Blues of any sort.
