I find taking the blank nut off the top of the rad and shoving a hose down to the bottom and siphoning works a treat, gets 95% of the water out the rad before you undo the valves, makes it a little less messy

I love the water bag idea to collect the water! Here in the U.S. I use a mini shop vac for jobs like this and especially toilet jobs. Only cost about $25 US.

Tile sponge for leaks esay to squeeze dry when mopping up also 22 9 pipe insulation easy pipeing to bucket also holds itself in possition great for drainoffs and rads also wet vac

Take 3 of the towel rad scresa out and leave one at the top loose so you can rock the rad to get your movement with out the weight problem also vent rad into a cap or bucket them turn the vent off and use it to control the flow.

When a shower mixer stat wouldn't work properly I'd dip it in some kettle descaling fluid to clean it out. 9 out of 10 times it did the job. And as for snatching rads take the pressure off first via the bleed valve ! 👍

Good idea that with the kettle

A great video, as a DIYer these type of jobs are the ones I learn the most from. Those buckets seem to be worth their weight in gold, they saved the day.

I had tongue and groove in my bathroon when I moved into my house. When I eventually ripped it out there was a fair amount of black mold lurking behind it.

Great video . I always have towels on the van to wrap around the bottom of the pipe before disconnecting the valve , and that’s after I’ve removed the pressure out of the radiator first 🤣.
I’ve had this happen to me a few times over the years . Like you said Mark , it always looks more dramatic than it actually is

If the rail is being scrapped, then put a small saw cut in the bottom rail or drill a 5 mm hole and direct the water into buckets

Nice snatch 😅 Re the shower, I had a very similar set up in my last house. They'd somehow piped it in plastic run in the cavity wall. I never worked out how they'd done it, or why. I was just pleased that it kept working 🤣

  • @liveloud9894

Looks like the towel rail had a pocket of compressed air at the top
I always open the air bleed after I’ve shut the valves off to release any pressure then close it off again so it vacuums again
I also put compression cap ends into the the rad tails once I’ve got them disconnected then take the rail off the wall and take it outside to empty it
I know it’s a bit heavier full of water but I found it quicker and less messy than trying to drain into buckets 👍
