The line about hipsters being 40 and doing web design now is absolutely spot on. Like it is literally me. I'm about to start a marketing business for coffee shops with my husband after being a barista since 2000. And I turn 40 this year. We still made fun of hipsters, while being hipster.
i really enjoy the idea of an analog and a digital desk. often times i’ll find myself wishing my desk was quieter feeling when working on physical projects, even when my computer is turned off. Off to fb marketplace i go to find a beautiful antique writing desk!
This reminds me of my friend who came over the other week pointing out that my room feels empty. Felt a little but hurt, but he was lowkey right. I’m not used to be in a space where I can decorate much so it didn’t cross my mind. But how much better it’s feeling when I put some old posters up from my parent’s house, some Halloween lights. And my personal favorite, sticky notes as reminders and notes for myself. Another good video that seems to catch me at the right moment.
I'm so glad I've just found your channel! I've been thinking a lot about improving my space, creating community among creatives, and working on hobbies like art, photography, video editing, and journaling. I've been thinking a lot about disconnecting from the digital world and how important physical collections are. And somehow you have all these bases covered! I'm very inspired by your content, keep up the great work!
i recently bought a loft bedframe and a second desk for my childhood bedroom. i can't afford to move out of my parents' house for college, so I've decided to re-do my room to make it more functional and nice to be in. having a second analog desk for working on stuff is a really cool idea, i think that's what I'm going to use my new (secondhand) desk for. these are really cool ideas, thanks for sharing em!
I really really like my shitty record player. Is it basic? Yeah. Does it also come with a radio and a bluetooth speaker for parties? Yep. Also now my parents and friends have a new idea of what to get me for christmas, birthdays and such. I got pretty emotional when my dad gifted me Wish you were here by Pink Floyd, his favourite album. And going to record shops is always a blast
God that's such an incredible record, you and your dad have great taste! Maybe this is pretentious, but I've only ever listened to WYWH on vinyl just bc to me it's such a transcendent experience that I feel like Spotify couldn't do it justice, even if my ears can't actually tell the difference. There's definitely also something special, at least for a Gen Z like me, about being able to physically own and handle a piece of music that can gather dust and scratches and memories and won't just disappear back into a database with a missed subscription payment, like what he was talking about in the video - I feel like you can foster a deeper connection to the music. Ok wow I better stop typing before I start growing a flannel and hand-grinding coffee haha. Also you're so right about the gifting too though, I know my friends are grateful bc it makes me so much easier to shop for!
Clicked for interior design tips and ended up surprised by the thoughtfulness and message behind the video. Fantastic ideas and I wish I had realized this stuff years ago
I have turned 2 used nissan r33 bomex tuner bumpers into tables and I'm using the rear one as a sticker collection piece since my hobbies involve going to events and those almost always give you some sort of stickers. It's also a really nice vibe to have when everything in your living space is connected to you as a person, for example I've got genuine 30+ year old movie posters, some retro game collections (psp/xbox 360) and a traffic light that just illuminates most of the room for ambiance. I do love physical media and art and I think more people should, thanks for encouraging that with your video!
Similar ish to the leave-a-note: I keep an expo marker in my bathroom for whoever wants to write a message. My mom would write encouraging notes on my bathroom mirror growing up, and last year during a rough patch I started writing them to myself. When my friends came over, they saw and picked up the marker and added to the messages. It’s my favorite thing now
Hello Ted, amazing video!! Thank you for creating such an amazing video that stands out from everything else on youtube these days. I really enjoyed getting to watch this, thank you!
Very enjoyable video! I like your record player and am interested in painting over a blurry photo myself. I also wish you would clean your typewriter slugs. It's fairly easy to do and will make your typed notes look much better. While you're at it you may as well replace your ribbon.
I love the whole idea of this video, absolutely suits me. Funny enough I've already got everything on your list here - except plants (because we don't have the space) and all my VHS tapes are in storage. The "Leave a note" board, though, is goddamn genius. I would bust out my typewriter occasionally at parties and sometimes use it for scrapbooking, but using it for that is an awesome idea. Also I love your humor, consider me subscribed.
for the bar part i completely understand lol. one of my side hobbies ( That i dont get to mess around with alot ) is drinks. not even alchoholic. just. drinks,
It's so funny you talked about trash cans. I literally took a picture of mine the other day thinking of starting a collection of 'things that make you happy after 30'. And having neatly arranged well kept trash cans in a handy space is just freaking... amazing. who would have thought.
I just came across this video and man your presentation and how you put this video together is amazing But also as a son of Chinese immigrants, feng shui has actually driven me nuts At a house my family was looking at to buy, my grandparents and grand uncles came along and vetoed the house because the exterior and position had bad feng shui I wasn’t allowed to orient my bed a specific way (head/feet shouldn’t face a window and optimally not the door) because it’s bad feng shui It’s not just what materials are, it’s also where things are positioned
Linke your vidoes! With the weight at the end of the tonearm, you can adjust the contact force of the needle. How big this should be depends on the needle. As a rule, these should be about 1 - 1.5 grams. You can buy a tonearm scale to check the tracking force. Best regards from Germany!
I loved all of this. . . . Despite the fact that would be impossible to afford living in a place like this by your mid 20´s on a minimun wage, in a world where housing is getting more and more expensive by the hour. Not a critique on the video itself, it was a great watch. But I couldn't stop thinking about how depressing the real world is.
Records are super pricy nowadays because everyone wants them. CDs? Cost next to nothing! CD players? Can be aquired super cheap second hand! I also have an MP3 for on-the-go listening. Don't ask where the MP3 files come from.
sounds like i've got the perfect excuse to put up a corkboard with some conspiracy theory on it. anyone know if red thread's easy enough to see or am i gonna have to get some yarn for this?
I’m a hipster pushing forty who does web design and almost spit out my locally-roasted coffee at this bit 😂 Glad to see our analog ways are being carried on 🫡
true adulthood is realizing you have unconsciously become the hipster you scorned as a child
Printing out your favorite photos and putting them on the walls is also a great alternative to art and prints
Why replace art tho?
@@eliamilanaccio5842 Art can be expensive. Some people don't like art. Some people would prefer pictures from their life. You can mix the two.
@@eliamilanaccio5842 Photography is an art form in itself. Hence the name, which means "painting with light"
here's a tip- buy a used dvd player for like $8 and check out movies and shows from the library instead of streaming!
That sounds so lovely ❤

I love how selectively unhinged your cinematography is. Please keep it up

12:06 That bit with the 3 guys sipping coffee and then just staring at the camera was amazing. Gave me a good laugh
I really love your cinematography it stands out on RUclips where you see a lot of hard cuts from rigid talking into a camera to rigid b-roll.

Man the "Leave a Note" Board is such a beautiful idea - also as a Christmas present!
You gained a subscriber with those delightful voice-overs at the beginning
And thanks for the advice!
this video feels so 2014 and i love it.
11:59 Instructions unclear. There are now 30-50 regular boars in my flat.
I love to watch underrated channels before they blow up.

maybe the real treasure was the hipsters we became along the way
Dude instant subscribe I laughed out loud when you said "hipsters nowadays are 40 and do web design" Great stuff!

The River double album is a fire way to start getting into The Boss
I really appreciate that your first record you played on your record player was Tubular Bells
Your videos are so fun and inspirational!!
Also I wasn’t drinking espresso while watching-
Tubular Bells is an excellent selection.
The intro? Confusing yet iconic

That basil sniff 😂 holy shit
I used to make fun of people for getting physical media, now i am becoming that person
You finally grew up.
Not exaggerating when i say that this video changed how i see some things
I am in no mental shape or form to care for hoise plants at this stage haha, so i just try and keep the windows open for the ones outside 😅
