They freaking played JACOBS LADDER!! And Camera Eye and Cygnus and Xanadu and 2112 all on the same night. His voice does not matter, a few technical missteps do not matter. This was the pinnacle. I mean they played JACOBS freaking LADDER and it was the best night ever.
Absolutely love this performance of Jacob's Ladder. Musically, lighting effects, just a well done masterpiece. I think Yes is the only other group that can take me places like Rush does.
This and Natural Science are basically worth the price of admission to me. Great, just great! But why on earth do they never show Alex playing the floor pedals? As if Geddy has it in his contract… “Show my footwork, not Alex’!” 😂
At the time before the tour, there were online polls about which song should be brought back. This won in a landslide. They hadn’t played it since Exit. They said it was a real challenge to relearn after thirty years with the time changes and pauses. But oh boy, do they nail it! 🎉❤ And just in time.
Saw this tour twice and still kick myself for not clicking 'buy' when I had LA tickets on my screen the day they were first released. Who knew that LA was going to be their last show ever? 😞 Having seen every tour since Signals this was truly a great retrospective on their career. As a fan, I was able to ride back in time with them, remembering the first time I heard/saw each song and just appreciating all they had contributed to music (and me). Was it a perfect concert? No. There are parts of S&A, R30, and CA tours that were better. Was it friggin' awesome. Absolutely yes.
I was at the Forum show and the Irvine Meadows show 2 nights earlier. Also saw the Denver show.... 53 Rush shows on total for me. The first also being at the Forum in 1978. Cherry on top, I waited till 3am after the last show and met Alex before getting into his limo. What a nice guy!
This along with Losing It was worth the price of admission for me. Next up Cygnus 2 followed by Xanadu and Cygnus 1 with Drum solo blew it out of park!
After almost 32 years being a fan of Rush makes me putting Rush songs on a top 20-30. These kind video’s helps me a lot 😂. Natural Science and Jacob’s Ladder are in the top 10!
I think we may need a t-shirt design that reads "Necessarily Harsh." 😄Either that, or "Just Being Honest." Permanent Waves is kind of like The Godfather, in that you don't skip around, you don't cherry pick, you sit the f down, shut the f up, and play the thing from beginning to end, because every second is utter greatness.
Albums used to be considered "a piece of work" by most artists (most of those I liked anyway). Not just a bag to drop your singles in. Playing a track is like randomly reading a chapter from the middle of a novel.
Yeah, this was a ripping performance of one of their most virtuousic songs. Despite any issues they were having at the time, the stars aligned for this song. The guys should have been proud. I vaguely remember them playing this when I saw them at the United Center. It must have been awesome.
This is definitely one of the best Rush songs. Hands down. I really like the last three albums, some of the songs even more than the 70s stuff for the most part, but IMO Permanent Waves through Grace Under Pressure beats everything. No contest.
Superb performance, superb. For some reason this song has never been among my favourites; can’t say exactly why. It is so, so great LIVE perfect in concert and I guess that is where I like it best. Cheers Justin.
In one of the first shows when they played this, Geddy said they were going to play something they never played in concert before. Afterward, the fans were all "What do you mean? You played it on "Exit Stage Left"! Geddy said he was a bit gobsmacked and totally blanked out on that. Real first-world problems of having a couple dozen albums and 40-year public career.
So great!! I’m on vacay in Ruidoso, and there was storm off in the distance… put this song on and just watched off the balcony… PERFECT!! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
I often wonder if Rush had played Jacob's Ladder every other tour for the last 40 or so years...if fans would be, like, enough already with this long, repetitive song. I like Jacob's Ladder...but I think the rarity of it played into fans clamouring for it.
Love the Vinnie-style improvised stuff Neil was doing in the 13/8 section, but he didn't play "my fill" (the one at around 5:50 on the studio recording)! 😄Did they truncate the section? I remember noticing this at the MSG show, as well. Great performance, regardless. Oh, and love that p-bass!
When they played this in Dallas, Geddy admitted that he’d mistakenly introduced it on a previous show as “a song we’ve never played live before”. Considering it’d been thirty years since they’d played it, a forgivable oversight😂😂
That ending really tests a Rush fan's air drumming skills. 😄 But yeah, just epic. Easily in my Rush Top 5, and one of the few songs where Rush met or even surpassed their prog rock heroes.
So great! Man... I wonder if they knew when they made Permanent Waves that it would be this great? I saw this live and it was pretty amazing when the lasers came out when the clouds parted.
Those laser lights going over my head on the floor section were unreal. Looked like a solid alien substance not “ light”. This was the most memorable part of the one show I attended that tour 🐾
All in fun, and you've been more than fair. I must admit to being sadly proud of Rush to Judgement... even though the opposite would've been more accurate.

... and Natural Science! 👍🏽
and How It ‘Effing Is 🐾
@@AnthonyKellettActually Natural Science wasn’t played the same nights as The Camera Eye was
@@demonicadog - Yes... That occurred to me, later. Sorry.🤷🏼♂️
They frickin' nailed this and made me love the song even more, if that was possible!
Absolutely love this performance of Jacob's Ladder. Musically, lighting effects, just a well done masterpiece. I think Yes is the only other group that can take me places like Rush does.
Amen. I want some more YES on here. Awaken, Turn Of The Century etc etc etc. So much beautiful music...

Actually my favorite off Permanent Waves 🌊 it’s not played nearly enough and I was glad to hear it on this tour!
Classic Rush is the most amazing music ever. They are gods.
Been waiting on this one. Just an awesome song. The tone seemed different on PW...higher gain. You are right about PW...total smash.
This is the one I've been waiting for...by far my favorite performance on R40. Almost like they literally went back in time...
This song was the highlight of the r40 show!!!!
Yes it was. Another song from the vault.
you stole my word, man, l.o.l.👍
I was going to post that! 🐾
This along with Losing It was worth the price of admission for me. Next up Cygnus 2 followed by Xanadu and Cygnus 1 with Drum solo blew it out of park!

Still waiting for Kitty 🐈⬛ Ho to Bobblehead 😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️❤️❤️
Seeing this live with all the lights, lasers, and production was absolutely wild. I have no idea how they got the lasers to cut off in midair.
Smoke?
Not one little victory but Cinderella Man instead😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥

This was my 13th Rush concert since '84 and the first time I heard them play Jacob's Ladder. F**king awesome!!!
Yeah, this was a ripping performance of one of their most virtuousic songs. Despite any issues they were having at the time, the stars aligned for this song. The guys should have been proud. I vaguely remember them playing this when I saw them at the United Center. It must have been awesome.
Totally BAD ASS!! Blessed to see this. Thanx Brother from another motha
The time signatures here really mess with your mind! Nothing like watching a newbie to guitar bass or drums trying to figure it out!
An absolutely mesmerizing performance. A true masterpiece. ⛈🏷🤘
the word is masterful. live it was sick and for last time one of the high lights of that last concert,🤘🌩🤘🎸🥁🎸
Jacobs Ladder and Losing It would’ve made the price of admission worth it……damn I wish I could go back and get a ticket before they sold out.😢
This is definitely one of the best Rush songs. Hands down. I really like the last three albums, some of the songs even more than the 70s stuff for the most part, but IMO Permanent Waves through Grace Under Pressure beats everything. No contest.
When you look at the "Views" you can subtract one because I had to watch this twice.
Yes nothing beats the orchestra bells!!!
This was one of the best, this is perfect Rush! Good reaction and review
Superb performance, superb. For some reason this song has never been among my favourites; can’t say exactly why. It is so, so great LIVE perfect in concert and I guess that is where I like it best. Cheers Justin.
That riff after the quiet part is SO difficult to keep going and Alex maintains it for a minute and a half!
Justin(Smiles)Panariello 😁😁😁

I'm pretty sure Geddy does play the intro with a pick, but there was no way of getting proof from this particular performance! 😅
Awesome. Love that they brought Jacob's Ladder back to life in 2015. One of my favorites from the Rush dvd collection.
So great!! I’m on vacay in Ruidoso, and there was storm off in the distance… put this song on and just watched off the balcony… PERFECT!! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
That section of R40 was epic beyond description. Jacob’s Ladder is kind of an obscure Rush tune, but live…, Epic.
Yeah Jacob’s Ladder was for the highlight of the concert!
Fuck me. Awesome song. First heard live on Exit Stage Left, when I was 12. Free Will, and this one, are the best
Prog music! You listen once - no. Twice- no. Five - nah. 40 years later, I get it! It’ s like a fine wine! Thanks for playing it!
Great sound, lighting, but AGAIN!! The video isnt synched with the audio, or vice versa. Idk why this occurs often, but it's tough watching it lol
I plagiarized a lyric from this one for a high school essay 40+ years ago. I think it's my favorite from PW.
I often wonder if Rush had played Jacob's Ladder every other tour for the last 40 or so years...if fans would be, like, enough already with this long, repetitive song. I like Jacob's Ladder...but I think the rarity of it played into fans clamouring for it.

Love Jacob's Ladder it's so intense 🤘

Yes, bring me back when I first saw them in 1980. 😮
So great! Man... I wonder if they knew when they made Permanent Waves that it would be this great? I saw this live and it was pretty amazing when the lasers came out when the clouds parted.
Not one of my favorites but I really enjoyed this live version.
Epic song, epic performance and epic staging.
Great song, great performance. It's just a pity they didn't get this song into the setlists years earlier, but that's how it is.
Yeah, great song and great performance! It’s also really cool that they replicated the same laser light show from back in the day as well.
It's funny because this is a fan favorite and they never play it but everyone who goes to a Rush show is a fan lol
Those laser lights going over my head on the floor section were unreal. Looked like a solid alien substance not “ light”. This was the most memorable part of the one show I attended that tour 🐾
I don't say this about hardly any Rush song but this one is just a complete bore for me. It just drones on and on.
Oh yes love this and love the new synth sound creates a whole new dimension
The masterpiece of this tour.
This is the best tune of the night. Amazing!
One of the tightest songs on the tour.
I hear ya. Let me see now...this or How It Is? 🤔
This is Rush stuff - no one else does this
A favorite of mine, for sure.
MASTERPIECE!!!
Second to none!
🤘🤘🤘🤘!
😎😎🧡🧡
Stickhits has a remastered version of Cygnus Book 1 from the r40 dvd. Hope you used that one and not a fan video.
only grainy fan videos from now on
Love this song......was so amazing live.
Was at the Toronto show with my 18 year old daughter and she was just enthralled with this one.
Kind of sorry to see your "Rush to Judgement" series winding down. What will we talk aboot now?
oh thats terrible lol. That's what first time reactions are though right? It's like that saying judging a book by it's cover. first impressions..
All in fun, and you've been more than fair. I must admit to being sadly proud of Rush to Judgement... even though the opposite would've been more accurate.
Cygnus X1 is minus vocals.
Good...

I love the buildup on the sound of Alex’s guitar at the end.
