    Glad he has a hobby or at least a plan for one. I personally think one of the bedrooms should be on first floor. He looks healthy but i imagine in 15 years or so he and the wife would not want to walk up and down the stairs multiple times a day. They can have their bedroom in the 2/3rd floor for now but in the future will very likely want to be downstairs. I really like the landscaping on the main house. Would like something like that but add some ponds for fish

    My younger brother built an 8 bed condo complex and a 4 bed home in San Francisco, Mindanao on land belonging to his wife's family. He also purchased a long lease on a nearby 48 acre coconut plantation. He bought a Jeepney for his wife's brother so he can earn a living, a new SUV, a motorcycle, 30 chickens and 8 pigs. It has taken a period of 21 years working in the UK and multiple return flights to enable him and his wife to retire and fulfil his dream. The final push was a heart attack which he suffered last year and now has a stent. He left the UK last month. He understands he loses everything if the wife kicks him out but they have been married for 21 years so that would happen even in a western marriage.
    My concern for this 71 year old veteran is ploughing his nest egg into a property on land which his "59" year old girlfriend's family own when he hardly even knows her. Even the 30 year old brother will be living with them. My brother's wife tells me horror stories of expats being ripped off by "girlfriends they met online" and in some cases, even murdered. I wish this gentleman the best of luck.

I’m sure some viewers don’t realize that properties in the Philippines include the porch, car port, even the balcony in the sqr meters of the house which wouldn’t be the case in the USA. To say I’m going to spend 85k and get this size of house without knowing the quality of materials. PVC versus Aluminum windows tiles (where are they from) what kind of wood will you use. Will you have hot and cold water throughout the house. All these items will play a big part of the cost. That’s why I said the 85k is a bit misleading.

    If he’s married, they can apply for a spouse visa and in a year time if he puts up a business or buy properties on his name and his wife he can apply for a long term resident permit. If he starts paying taxes in 3 to 5 years time he can apply for his nturalization. Dual citizenship is allowed in the Philippines so his U.S. citizenship will not be affected. They don’t even need a lawyer to do that actually all they gotta do is go to the DFA or Department of Foreign Affairs. He would fall into the no. 4 category of Article IV of the Philippine Constitution “Those who are naturalized in accordance of law.” And being married to a Filipina would be in accordance of law obviously.

    Fire codes far exceeds the US? I don’t think so. Worse part is the fire building dept. (If there’s even such a thing) doesn’t even check the contractor’s work. The inspection dept. comes twice, before the construction starts and when it’s done. Everyone is blindly entrusting that the contractor is doing everything up to code. This is a very dangerous proposition.

    • @alanestes6784
      @alanestes6784 2 месяца назад +1

      I don't worry too much about it because I have been around construction enough to know when something is wrong, and I do a walkthrough twice a day, when the workers are elsewhere. I was concerned about the quality of the concrete block, but that's just the way it is here. I am actually regularly surprised at the amount of thought that went into the final plan.

    • @J-Tyson558
      @J-Tyson558 2 месяца назад

      @@alanestes6784 You're an exception to the rule if you know construction and have the time to check on their work. The average person doesn't, that's why they hire architects and contractors whom they trust to (hopefully) build their house to code. Building departments (electrical, plumbing, structural, fire, etc.) do not inspect the contractor's work. In the US, the standard inspection process usually means inspecting the rough and finish work of each trade, and sometimes even more than that if the inspector deems it necessary to ensure the work is done properly. Moreover, some (not all) contractors pay off the inspection dept. just get them off their backs depending on the city and whom they're dealing with. And finally there are no agencies here you can go to as a customer if you feel you've been wronged by a contractor or inspector. The customer doesn't have the consumer protections like in the west.

    Codes in the Philippines are stringent. The issue is they are not followed. Don’t think for one minute the labor knows what is right or wrong. The US and Canada construction standard is way ahead. Guys are going to be surprised if they think they are going to get Western standards…you really need a basic understanding of construction if you are going to pony up the bucks for a western style home or accept things are going to be different.
    Make sure they seal the rebar at the top. They leave it exposed in the Philippines to allow for future expansion. This allows water to seep into the concrete causing swelling and sweating…eventually spalling will occur. Concrete will split as the rebar oxidizes inside the pillar.
    Ground the outlets. Grounding is not standard in the Philippines. Also get 110 and 220….if you have tools or electronic items from the states. Remember …electricity is not a given in the Philippines..current dips and surges regularly. Put the expensive items on a surge protector. A generator / interlock is advisable.
    Laundry will drain directly to the floor…up to you if you want to deal with this. Also p traps are not regularly used.

      When my mom built a new building last year she hire an architect and engineer for building permit. LGU’s in the province are strict about this right now.
      Some Filipinos are just stubborn to ignore building codes but if something happen you will be in for big trouble.

      One of my kids is upset with me for giving my money to a "stranger", but at my age am happy to give it to someone who really needs it. Anne is a good woman who deserves a much better life than she has had so far. Also, we are both Christians and believe that God brought us together to share the time we have left.

      @@alanestes6784I admire you for that. I'm a Christian too, I live each day as it comes, there's no guarantee for tomorrow. We can't bring anything when our time come. Just enjoy life and make the most out of it but of course doing God's will and living a life pleasing in God's sight. I hope I also meet a gentleman and retire in an island by the beach there like Samal Island or Siargao, or anywhere in Mindanao by the beach.
