If they are going to introduce larger and easier to hit citadels, they need to fix the issues of AP full pens through superstructures first. Right now so many ships with hard to hit citadels also have massive superstructures that get absolutely crushed by AP full pens and HE spam. If you raised the citadels on these ships to be easier to hit, the ships might as well have no armor at all.
Remember back in WW2 where BBs only angled and never fired full broadsides at enemy ships... No I don't remember any of that happening. The no broadside rule is a World of Warships tactic. Not how actual Naval warfare happened.
I know PQ isn't a history buff, but I am and this ships is special. Our family friend, J. McDonald was on the Tenn., Dec.7. He wasn't seriously injured and latter was AA gunnery officer aboard Essex. Obviously, I'm getting this ship. Seems like the Cit is to offset the slow speed, slow turrets, bad gun angles, especially taking what is a T6 ship into T10 game. And compared to Ipa, this is NOT an OP ship.

This design - High main battery accuracy - would have been PERFECT for USS Washington, which was the flagship of Admiral Willis "Ching" Lee, an Olympic gold medalist for shooting, and a man OBSESSED with gunnery and accuracy. Why Washington is not in the game with a mechanic like this is beyond all common sense and reason. Washington crew was drilled relentlessly in gunnery and they could (and did) put accurate fire on target in the first salvo.
Guy got stuck in the middle of a street with enemy snipers, so he just sat down in the middle of it and waited till he could see the glint off their scopes and quickscoped them before they could fire. Drachinifels video on him is great for learning all the insane stuff about his life

The whole purpose of broadside armour, historically, was that ships were SUPPOSED to fight roughly broadside to each other.
Exactly right! Crossing the T was the preferred tactic, sailing in a broadside line so all your guns could fire against ships sailing directly at you, which could only use their front guns.

Honestly, with the release of Tennessee, California has (sadly) officially become the "Tier VII Alabama". Why use her when Wee Vee '44 exists? And if you want a Tennessee-class, you go for Tennessee over her sister. California literally has nothing going for her, even after the (SMALL) buff she got (which I'm still grateful for, at least WG buffed her at all....).

Underwater citadel shouldnt be a thing on BBs. They get to reliably devstrike cruisers, but are pretty much immune nowadays to f*cking up themselves by these extremely tucked away citadels. BBs should get punished hard just like cruisers.
i don’t think the HE needs to be nerfed, when this thing gets up tiered (and it will), the AP is going to be nigh useless against ANY ship that has 25 mm plating or more. so it needs something to fall back on, and with only 20.5 kts of speed, the conceal is warranted. considering how busted other designs are in this game (libertad, vincent, bungo, etc), this one is fine as is imo
Having an exposed citadel would be a nightmare. The lack of citadel is offset by being slow, weak to HE spam, and slow turrets. If you were punished to go broadside on it, Tennessee would suck.

The DD accuracy on a cruiser is why I absolutely love the Zao, the ability to consistently hit 8/12 shells on a DD at 9km is disgusting. Tennessee sounds like the same deal.
I really don't think so. People keep on bashing against subs and CV, but I have problems with those maybe one out of ten games tops. While I have full overpens salvo with BB on broadside cruisers almost every game. And to be fair, 50% of the sub players are not playing well enough to pass then 5 min mark. That said, double CV or 3+ subs game shouldn't be possible. But to me, having a sub and a cv in a game is not worse than having 4 or 5DDs in a game.

And the Match Maker is tragic these days.. I have more and more blowouts. But overmatch can be anoying but I still manage to get good scores and games in cruisers with it
With more consistency on broadside's this game will lean more towards skilled and/or experienced players and that's exactly the opposite of what WG seems to want. I'm thinking they're making more money on newer players expanding their fleet than on the older players who are getting annoyed with Subs, CV's and powercreep.
Not sure I would agree with ya on this one. Bring a NM into a tier 8 match is already tough. Decent guns, but, oh is she slow. I know as a tier 8 cruiser, if I see a NM, I am all in for burning her down. So, with a T8 NM basically, I think having a ship with no citadel and a decent burn chance vs T10 ships is a fair trade. Everything is faster than you when you are up tiered. So, whatever flank you choose to fight on, there is no retreat from it. If the HE is powerful, I think that would be fine because as one of the slowest ships around, everything will focus on you and try to farm some damage.

Perhaps some rephrasing may be (in) order, but Wisconsin is a dockyard ship unlikely to come back for a looong time, if ever. Interestingly, Tennessee is even more accurate than her. According to shiptool, at 12km Tennessee's dispersion is ~30m tighter.
Wisconsin will still overmatch the bow of basically every cruiser in its MM spread. Not so with Tennessee, who can only overmatch most lower-tier cruisers and the superlights at same and higher tiers.

Okay WG were great this time guys, the mission chains are really eazy, i mean it would be ez regardless, but we can even grind it on the star trek event(30 citadels? SO EAZY), so its reaaaaaaaaally eazy luckly, and it is a absolutely amazing ship, loved it
Theres no way this is gonna be OP, theyre 14 inch guns, it doesnt really matter how accurate they are. Pretty much anything at tier 8 or above can angle against it and be fine. Its a good design, as PQ is saying: if enemies fuck up, you get to punish them, but in return you have a lot of options against it. The ships that are actually OP are the ones where you dont get counterplay.
I've been wanting this one. Badly. My damned computer crashed last Monday morning, and still isn't fixed. I hope I can get it fixed in time. Got the Tennessee. Worth every bit.
I just wish if we nerfed overmatch in some way/buffed CA armor we could give all BBs battlecruiser dispersion Battle cruisers cruiser dispersion and cruisers DD dispersion like the zao line. Probs will need an HE nerf to go with it but it would be a much more enjoyable AP experience IMO.
The HE is about the same as New Mexico's HE. I think the reason it's so strong is a consequence of giving it cruiser dispersion and a slightly faster reload speed. BB HE is probably not meant to be that accurate.
Condirering that's essentially a slow T6 ship that's gonna encounter T10 ships, being more difficult to Citadel hit it a good thing, especially given the absolute crap ton of HE spammers at these high tier games... Having a good concealment is nearly nothing in High tiers because of CVs, Radars, Hybrid ships with planes, and submarines, even playing DD is a nightmare.
I think less concealment and lower HE damage would be more than enough nerf to this ship. Its slow and with less concealment it would get punished alot more. Dont know that it needs to be citadeled easier that might be to much nerf, maybe a little easier ? 🤷
I don't want the game to become some angling simulator. I think how good a player plays comes down to how he knows his ship and what he can afford with it.
i wish Tennessee on Legends was this good. It's equal to the N. Mexico on the Tech tree, but the Kansas line. They split at New York and go to Nevada. Maybe if we get a Tennessee '44 like this 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Vanguard kinda feels like the battleship PQ is describing. Accurate guns, but only 8. Limited overmatch ability, squishy, vulnerable citadel, but good speed and maneuverability. Good concealment, but not the best. It's pretty gimmick free to be honest.
we got pre refit Tennessee in Legends at T5 (T6 in PC) and refit California is T6 (T7 in PC)...i just unlocked this tennessee today in PC, and dont understand the logic of putting this in T8 instead of T7
Hmm... the shells are the same as NM, both for AP and HE. Why would the regular ship want to use AP if this uses HE? A miss is a miss after all, while a less accurate HE hit does more than a less accurate AP hit...

Superstructures should work like DD armor, with certain calibers being able to pen and others only overpen, taking 15k when angled is just dumb

Funny thing is, bad dispersion can actually HELP players with bad aim.
all the more reason to remove overmatch and tighten dispersion.
The amount of times I've been perfectly dodging in my Atago and that one stray shell goes wide and Cits my stern is baffling.

They did buff the reload by asmall amount.
It's tolerable since the buffs. Hardly a showstopper, but it's workable.
Should have been tier 8 from the start, along with WV44. They are both screwed by being stuck with 26mm plating

Overmatch makes most "heavy" cruisers unplayable if you ask me... 9/10 ships people bring overmatches 30mm armor.
Because the main wows audience are sh*tter BB mains who want to point and click their way to glory, hence you get this situation.

Isn't Tennesse just New Mexico Guns on a Colorado hull?
The HE is about the same as New Mexico's HE. I think the reason it's so strong is a consequence of giving it cruiser dispersion and a slightly faster reload speed. BB HE is probably not meant to be that accurate.

Condirering that's essentially a slow T6 ship that's gonna encounter T10 ships, being more difficult to Citadel hit it a good thing, especially given the absolute crap ton of HE spammers at these high tier games...
Having a good concealment is nearly nothing in High tiers because of CVs, Radars, Hybrid ships with planes, and submarines, even playing DD is a nightmare.
I think less concealment and lower HE damage would be more than enough nerf to this ship. Its slow and with less concealment it would get punished alot more. Dont know that it needs to be citadeled easier that might be to much nerf, maybe a little easier ? 🤷

I don't want the game to become some angling simulator. I think how good a player plays comes down to how he knows his ship and what he can afford with it.
i wish Tennessee on Legends was this good. It's equal to the N. Mexico on the Tech tree, but the Kansas line. They split at New York and go to Nevada. Maybe if we get a Tennessee '44 like this 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good, eff that ship. No ship is gonna be considered "too much" while that napkin tardbarge remains un-nerfed.
Vanguard kinda feels like the battleship PQ is describing. Accurate guns, but only 8. Limited overmatch ability, squishy, vulnerable citadel, but good speed and maneuverability. Good concealment, but not the best. It's pretty gimmick free to be honest.
I don't know what your complaining about; Tennessee has the same or extremely similar Citadel placement to Weat Virginia, California and New Mexico.

i dont want bow in cruisers to be invincible so either HE damage against cruisers should increase or overmatch should stay otherwise imo
Yep, campy Demoines are just as bad as subs without a way to dig them out.
so it has a lot of upsides, including insane dispersion and good reload for these guns. but where is the reloadbooster? :P isnt it missing something?

we got pre refit Tennessee in Legends at T5 (T6 in PC) and refit California is T6 (T7 in PC)...i just unlocked this tennessee today in PC, and dont understand the logic of putting this in T8 instead of T7

Hmm... the shells are the same as NM, both for AP and HE.
Why would the regular ship want to use AP if this uses HE? A miss is a miss after all, while a less accurate HE hit does more than a less accurate AP hit...
More like a up tiered California but better is what some other people are saying about it.
