These airstrikes counts as potential damages. If you are a bb and you have the commander skill that gives you +1 heal upon receiving 2 mil potential damage, you can charge that up with 2 airstrike landing next to you.
I've been getting great value with my Rhode Island. Pushing a leg Gouden is MASSIVELY powerful in Rhodey. 30s heal... and with full heal build w/ the AA cooldown buff skill, you can have your heal down to 18s cooldown while AA active. Which means Rhodey can get potentially 6 heals with 18s cooldown and guns with 19s or less reload with good HE. Also she's very fast so Gouden struggles to drop bombs on. Rhodey is a beast. Got 120k damage received in my last match with Rhodey, and survived... and she has 77k base HP.
Hey PQ, I'd love it if you would try out Halland's unique upgrade. +1 Heal, +1 DFAA, +1 Engine boost. Each heal is more effective. Max speed increased from 39.7 knots to 42.7 knots. All this for a 13.5 second slower torpedo reload. (76.5 to 90seconds)
That's such a pointless "upgrade." You get bugger all out of that extra heal once you take permanent damage into account. Just get the 3pt captain skill. Speed isn't big enough improvement to make it worthwhile, even with a coal booster - you don't have enough dpm to be getting into run and gun scenarios, it's a Halland not a Smaland. The extra aa is irrelevant, the AA is already fine against carriers except the Russian ones and you literally can't do anything against them as they will just drop you and pass through your flack during the immunity phase.
...people really don't understand how heal queue works, huh or how good halland dpm is for that matter 1) halland legendary increases how much damage she queues by 25%, raising it from 50% to 75%. this is absolutely huge. this means that you can heal 75% of all damage you take (100% of fire and flood damage) also note that dds cannot take citadel damage, so it's 75% of everything: torps included 75% heal queue makes it so you can definitely use all your heals 2) do not underestimate halland dpm. halland has 210k he dpm. this is on par with gearing, daring, f. sherman he those guns work, and with the buffed heal, you can outtrade basically any enemy dd other than the super scary gunboats (as long as you can disengage) also, torp reload is nice and all, but you're not necessarily firing torps on cooldown also worth mentioning that the improved speed boost both helps you dodge in dd engages and reposition so halland legendary turns it into a ridiculously tanky hybrid dd. sure, won't necessarily be the best if you play halland at the back of the map, but if you're doing that you're playing halland wrong anyways

Ships like Lushun and Sevastopol are examples of how sheer healing power as opposed to fast acting heals are broadly irrelevant and a significant downgrade to ships like neutra which can heal comparatively less but over a short time. Halland is not a gunboat, discourage yourself of that notion, the dpm is closer to Hayate than daring and the shell arcs are less than satisfactory. And in the DD Hunter role you lack the radar smaland has to impact meaningfully in a utility sense. You are have a gigantic freeboard and are unable to farm any target unless it’s otherwise occupied. In return for such lacklustre dpm and gunboat potential you obliterate you primary means of doing damage. A waste of resources waste of time upgrade only useful for people who can’t aim torps properly. And if you disagree tell me how this thing is better than any true gunboat, daring Gdańsk hell even grozovoi absolutely eclipse this thing in every way possible!
Agree. Way too many UUs give way too bad penalties for what they offer in return. Often reload mod and concealment mod are just straight up the better pick.

Imagine trying to be a battleship and getting spammed every 15 seconds by an almost guaranteed fire, by a ship that can just sit behind an island (or outside detection range) 13km away, damconing a double fire only to get whacked by a triple or quad fire. And god help them if a div of these show up, it completely unbalances the match because it makes battleships obsolete. It needs to be nerfed. That thunderer got whacked for 71k damage and blown up, in 50 seconds of which only about 15k came from main guns. If you compare it to the garbage UU's of other ships (eg Kremlin's godawful, massive downgrade) it's crazy, this ship with the legmod has world record damage potential for sure.
I always loved the golden lion, it is almost the perfect island camping ship. It has very good conceal, power AA and airstrike to deal with the enemy island camping ship. The big guns can do serious damage to people rushing you and your armour is pretty good in close range too. Just watch out for sub, they eat you for breakfast.
I think this airdrop is kinda op and makes some cruisers who are supposed to play as 'Island hugger' even harder to play than they were before this. While standing behind islands this ship Gouden Lew deals damage without risking its own health. 90% of all surface ships (except CVs and hybrid ships) are not able to do any damage in return if positioned right. You can shoot a few planes down if you got dropped and so limit the damage you recive in 1 drop but because this drops reload with full squads shooting them down hasn't any long term impact you get at least at some carriers, where they run out of planes at the end of the game if they are not careful. I'm sad, that WG is buffing a mechanic where a serious counter play is missing. It remindes me of subs and carriers even if it's not as strong as they at the moment. What WG in my oppinion is missing is that reducing the damage you take is not a counter play. It's just avoiding damage. It's like you made a bad play limit the damage. That shouldn't be the case for a player who didn't do anything wrong in the game.
i do think that comparison is flawed as airstrike share actually very little similarities to normal planes in wows, no global range no spotting for example. I think a better comparison would be to torpedoes as they both share similar ranges and dont get you spotted when you use them. in this comparison AA works similar to torpedo protection reducing damage but not removing it outright, similarly fast maneuvering can lead you to taking no damage at all. The key difference between the two armaments is that airstrikes can be used to strike targets behind islands. They're somewhat like the more versatile but less damaging brother of torpedoes In terms of counterplay its the same as against torpedo boats you either need to push or if thats not possible retreat and seek another opening. Like torpedos but unlike regular planes the airstriking ship needs to be near you to strike you. So unlike cvs you can either leave the area or sink said ship.

Also if you ompare the potential dmg per drop of shima torps (12km) and Air drops just the alpha damage of shima is 357k vs 979k (and this without floods or fires) all calculated without upgrades or mods. And now we forgot that shima trops reload 153 seconds and the air drops with 100 seconds 1,5 times faster. Also for torpedos you have a hydro on a lot of ships. Yes I know you have defensive fire, but now I need this as "counter play" for CVs and Air drops and also you a defensive fire reloads 80s. A Goulden Lewmwith that mod 60s. So maybe your right that in terms of mechanic its more comarable to a torpedo but in terms of counter play its much more like a CV (you don't have one).
I just got wrecked by a Gouden Leeuw in my Conqueror expecting only 2 airstrikes and felt safe, I got 4 in a fairly short period of time and had 6 fires set. I was trying to figure out how that happened and now realize he had legendary thanks to this video. So thanks.
Hey PQ, i was the Rhode Island on the enemy team for this match, this was my best game in the ship with a 200k damage. I cant carry my team when their dead set on throwing though.
This ship is my very first cruiser line when I started, however the long cooldown made me not really play it despite getting to tier X. When I heard of this UU, went straight to getting it and it's been a blast playing it. Also broke my 3.1k record and got 3.2k base exp with this ship. Sadly, there's nothing you can do against subs in this ship especially with the need for aggressive playstyle to get in range for the air strikes. This ship really should have gotten plane ASW but I guess it's a tradeoff. And despite the powerful AA, I've been hard targetted by Maltas on Asia server, though I guess that's mostly because I'm alone.
Great video as usual. I'm big fan of the Dutch cruisers so, I'm in a small group. But, to be real here, this upgrade in NO WAY is OP, its a close balance at best. Why? Because we still don't get the ASW airstrike. For those don't know, the Dutch airstrike doesn't work on SUBMERGED subs.
71k damage to a thunderer in 50 seconds with a permafire before the fire killed it. Ocean game he got the Kansas to damcon two fires, then was able to fire three more airstrikes at him and get a 4x permafire (though the game ended). Someone is gonna break the damage world record with this in the right map and with a BB heavy matchmaking 700k is up for grabs.
dont underestimate those main guns! had a ranked matched one time and i snuck up on an island in mid that a Kremlin was steam rolling through and i caught it broadside at about 3km and absolutely smashed it with 7 of 9 shots being citadels and deleted it from the map! the AA on that sucker is enough to guarantee only the dumbest of carriers will try to harass you, it's a great all around ship and especially pushing caps mid/late game with hydro.
Very interesting. I'll try it out, but I've built mine to be an open water, HE spammer. The guns aren't great for that, but the armor scheme+double rudder makes you very annoying and battle impact can be more consistent. But that was all bc the plane strikes were meh. This creates a viable option and guess I'll regrind my brit lights for an 18th time!😊 o7
Which T10 or Supber BBs can these bombs pen? I saw the 4 fires on the Devestation the other game, but how is it with Ohio, Luisiana flight deck, GK, St. louis etc?
If it's British or French you will pen the deck, everyone else you are going to shatter. The British and French are the only ones who still have 32mm decks at T10/Super.

It's leg mod gouden leuww so it has 3 air strikes with improved reload times so if u have the chance u can use all 3 and have short reload time on them...without the leg mod it suffers with the air strikes due to one less airstrike and very long cooldown
I think you really underestimate Gouden's main guns. I've played hundreds of games with prop mod + reload/range without relying on airstrikes much and it slaps. The dispersion is standard for a large cruiser and unlike other large cruisers you get 13.2s reload and 10.3km concealment. That being said the legmod looks very fun

I think especially in this match he saved his dfaa for when the cv is a serious thread for him (like at 9:16). Because of the long cooldown of those it its not worth to "waste" it for example on some torpedo-planes attacking him from the rear since the torps wont hit anyway... This would be my guess
Lmao I played a game as Napoli and went around some islands and caught a Golden Lion that was trying to find one to camp behind. He tried to run from me which he did but the 6.5 km away Napoli forced him to run so much that he got mopped up by my teammates. It was great
I'm 1 regrind away from Slava/Ohio as my 3rd rb ship. Now i'm thinking i might get this instead. Probably not though, since I have De Zeven Provincien anyway

hope this game dies out soon. Its unbelievably rigged. every time i miss only one star for qualification to higher league i get team who gets a totaly destroyed, saving star is also not possible couse i had to prioritize objectives and there will always be cv hidden somewhere who outfarms you and outlives you.

Leg mod guten lew is the most fun I've had in a long while! From being a port queen to one of my favorite ships and arguably best cruisers at T10!

The special commander does have a perk for cruisers -15% Airstrike reload. Did you make a mistake?

Is there a downside to dfaa? I see that pq never uses it even when available. Sure aa isn’t great, but surely dfaa makes whatever is the better right?
I think especially in this match he saved his dfaa for when the cv is a serious thread for him (like at 9:16). Because of the long cooldown of those it its not worth to "waste" it for example on some torpedo-planes attacking him from the rear since the torps wont hit anyway... This would be my guess

Lmao I played a game as Napoli and went around some islands and caught a Golden Lion that was trying to find one to camp behind. He tried to run from me which he did but the 6.5 km away Napoli forced him to run so much that he got mopped up by my teammates. It was great

@@Ken_Koonz i know it's ridiculously strong, but i do have similar gameplay on Georgia and West Virginia '44. Slava's guns seem very alluring to me, given how I don't play soviet ships in general, and dont have steel for Stalingad
@@BSoDexe Slava is great in randoms but the 16 inchers struggle with nose-in ships in competitive modes like ranked and clan battles. In randoms though, she is awesome. I got a Kraken with her on my maiden voyage with no mods. Best of luck with your choice!
Don't forget that Ohio is god tier when it can pushes. If you want to play it in random good luck with that.

This ship in this state is really bad for the game, worce than Subs or CVs ! Just more Over Powered crap to ruin the game for players. Period. Im surprised you promoted this as your so against OP CVs and Subs with very little counter play.
normally love your vid but this line is just so toxic for the game
hope this game dies out soon. Its unbelievably rigged. every time i miss only one star for qualification to higher league i get team who gets a totaly destroyed, saving star is also not possible couse i had to prioritize objectives and there will always be cv hidden somewhere who outfarms you and outlives you.
Anybody that plays CV submarines or hybrids should gargle rogaine.
