- FMS released the FCX10 a couple weeks ago. Mine got sent around the world twice before I could do the review on it. After much fiddling, I'm not sure I can recommend this truck, but I'll let you watch my review, and then decide if this is a truck destined for your collection.

This seems ilke a great truck. Sure it may take some tinkering to keep it all working, but it's called a hooby for a reason! The fact that all these features are offered is impressive.
Shame you had issues with yours. Only issue I noticed with mine was the slipper is too loose, otherwise its performed really well.
I've mudded mine, rock crawled, ran it at the beach etc and all good. Ran it yesterday with my trusty brushless TRX4 and it did very well.
Hopefully with time FMS will just keep getting better and better. Personally I think it's great other companies are giving the big boys a run for their money, as let's be honest, most are overpriced. 👍
Glad yours is working well! Maybe mine was a lemon!
@scalebuildersguild I think that's what FMS need to work on, consistency. I know people have had issues with their FCX18's as well. I had my first issues with the new K10 the other day. 😒
@scalebuildersguild At least its better than the Killerbody Mercury ey, that thing drained the life out of me! 🤣🤦
@@DoURC What issue did you have?
@1980VINZ The slipper clutch seemed too loose, so if you tried to launch it in 2nd gear, or push it in 2nd it slipped very easily. Other than that all good. Got a full review and running videos on my channel. 👍
I think the simplicity comes with having multiple vehicles to run and being in the hobby for a decent length of time. A rig like this having all the bells and whistles is great for someone who only has one vehicle and wants to put time and resources into it.
It is bizarro day when SBG is super critical (not a bad thing, one should be critical and honest) of the FCX10 and Crawler Canyon actually likes this RTR lol
This is alarming to me though... especially when his maxx slash review was so... uncritical to say the least. I was shocked at the positive sentiment for that hot garbage!
Right!
It surprised me as well. I watched the Crawler Canyon one last night, and this one in the morning. Surprised that this video was so critical, considering the rave reviews for the Redcat Ascent, which seems less capable, and almost everything on the Ascent is just weird or wrong - and it needs several hundred Dollars of upgrades to make it anywhere close to half decent. Like, I'm fairly certain the link geometry on this is way more correct than on the Ascent, it the shocks look way better as well.
I think they come at it from different perspectives though. It's not like Crawler Canyon is going to take the FCX10 out on a trail run. The FCX10 did quite well as a pure crawler, and it will be interesting to see what can be done to make it even more capable as a rock crawler. It will also be interesting to see what the after market will make for the FCX10.
I quite want one. It's fairly cheap, especially considering it has stuff like locking and unlocking diffs and dig, straight out of the box. A light kit isn't particularly important to me, but the one in the FCX10 seems pretty full featured, and won't set you back another 110 bucks, like it would with a TRX4.
I know which one I trust. It’s the one that knows the Ascent is garbage.
If a shifted gear does not get the correct input from the servo, which here is probably damaged, then of course the gears will slip. The more functions, the more failures can be. For this part he is wright that there is a higher chance to get disappointed in the drive. But failure of a component can always be, even on a 2 channel rig or any other things.
The not perfect scale looks he mentioned is for this channel a must to bring it up, but if this is a licensed truck, then Chevrolet probably seen it and gave a yes on it, so it should be a Chevrolet thing.
For me, both sbg and crawler canyon did a a good review on the truck. Both of them are correct.
Never go for only one review, cause there can be different cercomstances and uses happening.
Btw. didn't the gear slip start after being in the water 🧐
Thank you for not being just another talking head of the RC RUclips community!!
Thanks for watching!
Love mine I got the black one, I haven’t had no problems with mine everything works great. Appreciate the video catch you on the next one 👍👍😎
Glad to hear your feedback! A lot of people are really enjoying theirs, so mine might just be a lemon!
sameee heree lovinn mine
Agree with the over complications, with my trx4 bronco when the micro servos died i just zip tied the axles to always locked and never looked back😂 Great review!
Thanks man!
For those who might be unsure of buying this because of the body mount system, it is not nearly this difficult. I am not sure why so many people have this much of a problem with it.
I agree, once you think about how it works and do it a few times it isn't bad. Those magnets definitely want it to stay on though.
Thank you, yes. It literally works great and easy...
Also, for anyone that still struggles, check out the YT page for "RC Review". He recently put out a video showing how to mod the body post mounts to make it easier to remove.
Fair enough, thanks for watching!
It also gets easier the more it gets used
I'm rooting for FMS. 🥳 For them and for everyone buying one, I do hope yours is the only rotten apple. 😁 I love all those "bells and whistles" so much I'd buy one if I hadn't a trail truck already. (mine, of course, has a 2 speed trans and lockable diffs 🤩).
I think they're profiting less than other big brands and I value that (of course it's also a way for them to win some market). Like you said Matt, competition is welcome and benefits the hobby. I think FMS has already conquered their place. I do wish they had "dressed" their rig more at their on style. Let's see where they'll go from here. I do hope they succeed, specially if they keep their prices.
Greetings for both! :)
What is your trail truck?

Also sold as Rebel RC Rebelcon (USA) and Yikong (East Asia).
I have had one for a little while. It’s been great and have no regrets.
Is it as well built as the TRX4? No but who cares
I got one not because I needed it but because I'm a FMS Fanboy
@@charlieshankles Hey nothing wrong with that, we are all fanboys of something, everybody has something they like.more than the rest, sometimes it's a odd reason but it's what we like!!!
Here in Canada the FMS sells for 550$ and the TRX sells for 850$. So a 300$ difference for something that has lights and dig is a significant margin. I don't know why traxxas products have to be so much more expensive than other brands here in Canada. Redcat and arrma products are also significantly cheaper due to the traxxas pricing.
Traxxas is just a huge price gouge here. There's no point in buying such overpriced toy grade cars and yet so many people own traxxas. Maybe its the way the average rc hobbyist that buys traxxas drives them but they're always broken non-functional cars that they spent so much money on just to eventually keep breaking. I see so many people mess with these beat up cars either its burnt esc (on stock gearing and motor??), seized bearings, etc. Upsetting to see.
I mean I've been running 24th scale stuff for a while now and wanna jump into 10th soon. The price point on this is much more welcoming
This rig is so much more enjoyable than any of the TRX's, trust. I have two TRX4's and a TRX6. The other drive option on this is exchanging dig for RWD, not FWD, lol! The body is actually so easy to get off. It's just a new design with a learning curve. I much prefer it. It really is so easy and solid when attached. No rattling at all. It's fully four-linked with SOA. That's a win. The driveshafts are counter-rotating, no torque twist. The electronics are so damn good, it is the first rig I'm not even considering changing electronics besides a servo when the time comes. It's a brushed rig that runs damn near like a Fusion, and quietly smooth if you grease it up, no bs. The shocks even feel better and smoother than a TRX, and they're 100mm. It also has a drag brake knob on the transmitter to adjust on the fly. You can change the lighting with a jst Y harness to rid of the blinkers and just have marker lights and running lights with the markers. This rig just outright destroys my TRX rigs out of the box compared to when they were stock, as well. And at a much cheaper price. I'll never buy another TRX rig. I have a new favorite trail rig for sure. The next ones from this platform will be amazing, as well, LC80, K10. Just wait n see. I'm telling y'all, don't sleep on this platform. And I have A LOT of 'em. Just saying.
Great video, tho, and I respect people's opinions. Just spend some more time with it...
Thanks for your input! I'm planning to spend some more time with it!
@scalebuildersguild awesome, my friend. I think you'll end up liking it a bit. Haven't had any issues with mine so far, and we are rough in our mountainous area 🤞
I definitely had to invest in the lock differential protectors for our terrain, tho. They're nice and beefy brass parts to cover them. The upgrade driveshafts are also really heavy.
@scalebuildersguild after finally getting to finish your video of it running, I can definitely understand your frustrations. I'd be BIG PISSED. Damn, brodda this is the first video I've even seen with it having any issues. That really sux fat anus. My apologies
Love you Matt, you refuse to be overly negative even if it means smiling through your teeth
I like all the diff lock/multi speed transmission stuff. Adds another dimension to trail, rock driving
Fair enough, thanks for watching!
Hi Matt! Great content on your channel, and love the reviews. I had a similar issue with my rear drive disengaging sporadically. (Oddly enough, more often on an incline.) I was able to play with the channel 6 trim function, and it did the trick! I now shifts properly and runs great!
That's great, glad you fixed it. I spent two hours last night tearing it down and re-programming the entirety of the shifting mechanism! Seems to be fixed, although the front diff locker servo had given up the ghost. I'll follow up again soon!
Bummer about the servo. Hopefully, the issues with this truck are in the past, and happy trails ahead!
you can also adjust servo end points on transmitter as well as trims and mine have been working great ever since i fine tuned them all. at first my front diff locker every once in a while was not disengaging properly it’s because it’s actually a spring and the axle housing that is pushing it back to the locked position and the servo is doing the job of unlocking if you open up the differential you can see how it all works. So I had to just adjust the end point so the unlock would push back on the spring far enough. now its good to goo
Being very new to the hobby I really appreciate your input. I was planning to get the truck, but realize now it may be over my experience level at the moment. Thank you so much for this review.
Welcome to the hobby and glad I could help! Not sure what you have already, but there are a lot of other trucks that might be better suited for your experience level.
Welcome to the hobby, I started out with my TRX4 SPORT 3 yrs ago and ive had so much fun with it and its really a beast, Ive learnt loads from It and Im thinking about getting the FMS BLAZER for my trail adventures.
I had the same issue with the dig servo the first time out. But, after doing some adjustments on the radio its working great, at this time.
I actually took it on its first long trail run this morning, and i had a blast! Mud, rocks, jumping and lots of donuts.
I tend to like all the gimmicky crap., so all the extra functions are fun for me.
Im with you on the wonky details of the body. I dont hate it, but they could have done better. I had so much fun with it, I'm looking forward to driving it again.
Your question I would say is determined by the brand & id say FMS has much experience leading up to this release so all those features are nice especially for the price. It’s not going to take the place of any other crawler but that’s good it kind of has its own feel & look which is welcomed.
Unlocking diffs is necessary when you have that much speed. I enjoy that much speed when on the trails when you want to goof around between obstacles. 2 speed is a lot of fun, and dig is very handy, so yeah....all the stuff is great on the trails. It does have a ton in common, and you can say copied from, the TRX4. I think there are a lot of improvements and value adds that you get with the FMS though, as long as durability is good. Whenever the unlocking diffs are mentioned, it's almost immediately a "copy of a TRX4". I'm just curious if there are ANY unlocking diffs out there that don't work like the TRX4. Maybe there's no other way to do it? I'd like to see another design.
Well said
The Cross EMO does it a bit different
You should look into a digital counter for your lexan work sign, with a reset button(BIG Red Button) right at your desk there. We could watch in real time as you smash that button. Lol. I'd be chuffed by that. 🤣
😂
You can adjust the body mount clip less mechanism the rear would work just removing the release parts and letting the magnet hold it.
I'm with you. I'm not much on bells and whistles. A simple 3 gear and straight axles is fine with me 😂.
However, I'll probably pick this up. I never got the trx4 because the price was too high for something I didn't want. Ive gotten a couple of trx4s now through trades but I don't use them. I'm curious how durable this thing is for the price.
I know everyone is complaining about how much it looks like a trx4 but a lot of companies start their journey in 1/10 designing after a chassis. Vanquish and Element both used the successful 10.2 chassis to get their start!
Fair enough! Hope you enjoy it if you decide to pick it up!
@@scalebuildersguild I keep talking myself out of it. I've had it in my cart a few times but I keep eye balling the carbon kit. I've always wanted to build a vanquish kit. I have a Fordyce and Phoenix but they were RTR and I haven't done anything to them. I've been all across 10.2 and element chassis. Ground up builds. I don't know why but the vfd trans is just intimidated to an old 3 gear guy or stealth x 😂
@@TheRCBuildersPostyou won’t be disappointed with the VRD Carbon. Top notch kit!
@@scalebuildersguild Only one way to get familiar with a different chassis and that's to build it! I ordered the carbon kit! Anything you'd recommend to add to it? I'm not real familiar with it. I know it comes with the aluminum weighted covers. Any brass or anything. I think I read it has plenty of overdrive in the kit. So It looks pretty ready to go out of the box!
I think your review was sincere, we watched the truck fail in real time.....and my go to trucks are the TRX sport, and my Phoenix RTR without the dig and overdrive servos!!! Less is more 💯
After trying dig on my first trail run, my rear axle no longer drives the truck in 4WD mode. Disappointed to see a failure so quickly since I liked what I saw on paper.
I love it. Period. Replace the steering servo. Lots of functions for a lot less money. Micro servos are not under stress, being on/off only, so that's not a stress/fail point issue. Granted, if they end up failing, replacement is cheap but trim tweaking could be challenging. It's all part of the hobby. For the price of extra bodies you can make it a pickup or a blazer for cheap. The bottom line is that this is a great bang for your buck vehicle.
A lot of people are really enjoying theirs so I think mine might have been a lemon!
They kind of missed on the quick release aspect of the body . I like the light magnet idea but might need a revision . Matt thanks for the great review of honesty .
Thanks for watching!
You can't hate on FMS for being so scale they engineered the unreliability of a Chevy onto their features. Commendable!
I’m not really a fan of extra electronics in general, but 2 speed transmission and locking diffs i think is really good. Unlocking the diffs really helps to save on drivetrain wear and improve the turning circle. Makes the driving smoother when not crawling.
And more realistic 🙂
I love being able to lock and unlock the diffs. Whole reason I got the TRX4. So much fun seeing how far your driving skill can get you before engaging the rear and then the front locker if needed. Also love having a 2 speed trans for a bit of hooning or trailing. Dont really care about dig, but I beleive you can change some settings or configuration to make this FCX10 be RWD with a switch to 4WD. I would love that.
Fair enough, thanks for watching!
How different can a truck really be.. at some point they will look like each other. Lol
Yes I like the options.
And grease quiets that down anyway.
Well said
Love that you are honest about the trucks. Hopefully the companies can learn from your videos.
Thank you
Hope so! Thanks for watching!
@@scalebuildersguildthanks for sharing
I have to agree with you about the complexity of the vehicle. Austar made a clone of the TRX4 and I got rid of the locking diffs and installed lockers so now it is just a 4X4 with a 2 speed trans.
It’s fancy new with all the features and servos , but I’m of the mindset of, please don’t break on the trail, I want reliability.
I’ll go with, less is better 👍🏼
Agreed!
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.Great vid buddy and thanks for the sharing and honest review as always. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for watching!
Wonder if they'll go the extra mile and release a sport version
😂
I think they might release a simplified version for sure.
And even cheaper.
I like having features personally though this may have more than it needed. I like that it has dig, I could probably go either way on the locking/unlocking and 2spd, not sure I'd ever use the fwd feature though.
Shame it seems to have reliability issues.
I just bought the new FMC X18 Chevy Silverado long bed pickup and this thing is a beast. FMS is giving poor people like myself an affordable platform that brings new people like myself to the hobby of off-road RC and kudos to them. Absolutely no complaints from me.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
I just had mine out for a good amount of time for the first time I’m impressed for the price it needs new tires & metal beadlocks which are coming & Injora just came out with metal axles so got those also. I’m wondering if cutting the top & making it a convertible with removable rear shell would help it look better but I must say when you get it it’s not bad at all I’ve already did the mod of cutting the rear body tabs at the second line so only the front locks & the rear is held almost entirely by the magnets also for a big truck it’s not very quick to tip over & that’s stock can’t wait for my parts to come for it. Glad ya got it it’s definitely one of the top trail trucks regardless of price.
Top trail truck 🤔 Top of what?
@@andyb9994 So you have one & have you ran it ?
@@Casitascrawlers Yes and Yes!!!!
@@andyb9994 I ran mine through so every tuff Real trails through rocks & boulders over some very tuff terrain had one of the side windows pop out but I took some good videos of some of it & did not have any issues at all so if you do have one you did run it you should now that’s it’s a very good RC I remember getting the $500 Axial SCX10 3 JLU which is $500 & my first time out the dig servo blew up I used it 2 times😂 the front servo was terrible & the electronics crappy but because it’s an Axial it was reviewed in better light I could easily say it was a terrible RC not even near worth $500 but a few minor issues with the new FMS & biased reviews will focus in nothing but the bad it’s no wonder certain people didn’t get them to review 😂
@@CasitascrawlersThats good its a capable truck, i never said it was no good or anything bad about it, just said we watched HIS truck fail....as it did!!!!
I want to get one and use the option to remove dig and add the selectable 2wd to 4wd. The trails I run don’t need dig and running it in 2wd might be fun as a scale factor. So I’m a fan of the options
Fair enough! Enjoy!
It already does go into 2wd/rwd.
Going clear back to the fcx24. I think bang for the buck is high on the Fms products. They need to do a little better on the detail and definitely offer more color options. The Atlas 1/10 has been one of my favorite cheap buys. It needed a ton of mods, but what a solid inexpensive platform to just go all out on... in a cheap sort of way.
I'm a fan of the FJ40 they did. Simple, leaf springs (added) and a beautiful hard body!
The more I see, the less I like that body.. just not quite right..
There definitely is a level at which functionality becomes overwhelming and running a single speed rig becomes the least frustrating option
Nice video. as usual best cinematography, Do you know what failed? What it the servos? or the cable tensioning? Broken parts?
Front diff servo failed, as well as the positioning of the servos on the transmission side. I spent two hours last night repairing it, and it seems to be functioning better now. I'll do a follow-up video soon!
@@scalebuildersguild thanks, looking forward to it
Maybe you got a Monday or Friday build. You know Monday, still hungover and not thinking clearly or Friday, anticipating the weekend and not focusing on the job. LOL
Maybe a few tweaks will correct the issues?
Possibly!
I just ordered one (before watching your video) and it has not arrived yet. As you know it's probably an issue with adjusting the cables/servos. I think it would have been better if you had turned the truck upside down and pulled on the levers on the diff as you actuated the lock function. That way you could have shown any newbie (or not mechanically inclined) viewers how to deal with something like that out on the trail. That may have solved the open diff issue and allow to get home with locked diffs. Still FMS should keep an eye out on quality control beforehand. Also seen some videos where the clutch wasn't adjusted correctly.
I don’t’ think it’s over complicated. Either it works or it doesn’t. I think you got a bad one. Love the review. All of the others have failures too. My TRX4 had multiple issues out of the box when I got it. It’s fine now.
I just saw this video. I always enjoy your twist. Do you know why each side of the truck's cap bulges out at the bottom?
I noticed the tires seem to rub substantially on the fenders.
Can you turn off the stupid turning turn signals?
I have had a TRX4 for a few years. As you know they are a beast. Now that I have seen the FMS up close, I don't believe I will be trading in my TRX4 anytime soon.
I will give FMS credit for their
efforts. They are very good at improving the ideas they copy.
Or rather they try hard at copying but can't always copy and manufacture the soul.
Thx for the vid 👍
I didn't have that much trouble getting my body off....You can clearly see on these reviews when someone just absolutely hates something I don't even know why this guy did a review all he did was shoot the vehicle down but kinda goes without saying anyways the hole video was COMICLE......
They sent me the truck, I’ve gave it an honest review. 🤷🏻♂️
Hmm, also picked up the predetermined intention of rubbishing it on every level, what a shame.
@@vaughanrix7610take a look at this, and then take a look at something like the Optic. Tell me this isn’t a rehash, with remarkably similar features, layout and design to other pre-existing trucks, and isn’t remarkable in any way other than price.
All the bells and whistles are nice, but dig really isn't needed on a trail truck like that. Locking diffs though, those can be good to have and use. I'm a fan of it, should be able to grab one up in the next few weeks, mainly the price point. Bummer that yours is having issues, but we all know factory servos are never the best. Great review as always!
Thanks for watching and enjoy yours!
Ive been using my scx10ii for years with the two speed box but got fed up with rear broken diff /worn teeth of the axial axles .tried the SSD hardened but they just shear the pinion gear at the hole where the drive shaft pin goes through ..so I paired the axial two speed .15 tooth pinion gear fusion and TrX 4 sport axles and it’s been bullet proof for the last two years
Does everybody know that the hounddog can run?
In all seriousness, even though it's cheaper than a TRX-4 or a SCX10. I usually expect a product to function properly as designed out of the box and last more than the first day out.
Well this honest review really make me like my Trx4’s even more lol
I really love this truck. I have Fms 1/18th and 1/24th and love the 2 speed trans. I recently picked up the Axial CJ7 and I do think the dig is cool. I think the idea of a 2 speed trans is great but could do without unlocking the diffs. I dont believe those servos will last because neither do the Traxxas. I agree that I would never remember what each of those channels do without being labeled. I will let this new truck ride for a little while and then probably pick one up. Thanks for the honest work as usual.
Some people have had a great experience with theirs, so I could have a lemon! It's still a bit overcomplicated for my needs, but that's just my opinion!
They need a trx4 sport kinda version for around 300
I guess I don’t remember watching this video, but I had to watch it again because I was lured into this vehicle with their current promotion. I kind of wanted to pull The trigger As a companion to my RC 4D K10. I don’t think the inaccuracy of the body bothers me too much nor does the ill fitting top or the fact you have to drill into the body to make it fit but the see-through white panel is a slight issue and I think the thing that really killed this deal for me was the fact that, the gearing failed on your first run. Maybe that had to do something with the shifting servo adjustment, but that shouldn’t happen on a new vehicle. Oddly, I don’t ever remember you being that critical to any of the typical releases we’ve seen but you may have just saved me $400 so I thank you for that. I will still support on their small scale stuff because much of it is wonderful.
It's possible I got a lemon, but I stand by my review!
I appreciate your honesty always like your reviews, I actually like the options I’m rooting for fms
Thanks! I’m rooting for them too, but I feel like this truck was already made, years ago!
Haven’t had to fiddle with anything but definitely agreed it’s louder then some other brands.
Not going to lie. When I first saw your truck had the cap on the back. Your lexan count calendar was the first thing I looked at from the beginning of the cast. Lol😂😂
😂
Yep, like the unlocking diffs..😁 Makes the car smother, and love the challenge of picking lines where all the wheels have ground contact. It’s how I drive my TRX-4’s. Only locking when absolutely needed - like a real 4x4.. I don’t care for the DIG though.. I’d like RWD/4WD option instead as pr. real life car.. It should help turning radius and off course drifting 😎..
Which crazy is I actually ordered this truck from Amazon this morning thought about it and canceled it and ended up ordering the redcat fusion instead. I know nothing is perfect, but I must’ve watched 25 reviews and they all said the red cat was probably the best ready to run out the box. This truck on the other hand was 50-50 depending on who you were watching some loved it and some said it was just a better trail truck and I wanted a dedicated crawler so I went with the red cat. Ordered it from Helidirect because they ship quick and don’t charge tax to New Yorkers lol.
You won't be disappointed with the RedCat Fusion. Exceptional value and performance for the money! Congrats!
@@scalebuildersguild thank you. Only been in the hobby since June 15 of this year and I went a little batty, you can see in a few of my shorts all the cars I bought so far and I have six still waiting to be delivered,1 today. It’s addictive for sure.
I've only run a few packs through mine and thankfully haven't had any of the issues you seemed to have had. Sucks if you got a lemon. I still appreciate learning all the bells and whistles on mine. I absolutely love my High Trail Ranger but paid more for it up front and have that amount again into upgrades. So far I'm really enjoying my FCX10 and figure I can fix and upgrade quite a bit before I get close to how much I've spent on the Traxxas. And I'm also a fan of more competition.
I'm glad to hear that your experience is better than mine! Enjoy!
i think your feedback is justified, an over complicated rig is never a good thing unless youre a hardcore enthusiast who is very meticulous and likes functions and details but not everyone is that and seeing what people put their crawlers and trialtrucks through these days i doubt its a good idea to implement to many things that can easily fail or get out of balance from some spirited use, its definitely a cool rig none the less but theres just to many points that can break.
While it does add more stuff that can go wrong I find myself having more fun when the vehicle has options. For instance a comp crawler well your comp crawling. Now a scale crawler when you have lights and different functions it to me is so much more fun!!
Fair enough, thanks for watching!
Cool, a K10 long bed Blazer!🤔
Whats up with the funky lookin wheel wells???
I was hoping for a detailed body like the fj.
I think it's great to have so many options, not that I want so many options for most of my rigs. That being said, I am sure there is the perfect application for this chassis. Big miss thought from them, front wheel drive? Should have been rear wheel drive if either were offered. And to do ALL of them for significantly less than Traxxas and Arrma.
I feel it’s a honest review. It’s over complicated for trail riding. Nobody wants to carry a truck back to the car and we want the functions we paid for to work 🤷🏼♂️
The scale might be slightly off, the mirrors might be very wrong, and it might be a clone-ish of something else, but it's also a really good way for more people to get into the hobby (I think). for 399 you get everything that a much more expensive rig has and you can enjoy all the cool stuff that the bigger custom crawlers have. I wanted to build a VS4-10 Phoenix forever but didn't have the confidence with how complicated everything was, but this gives something that's easier to start from. It's not for everyone, but I'm really REALLY enjoying it so far. It's fun to drive, it looks good, and FMS has been killing it the last couple of years (looking at multiple FCX24 builds...). This was also their first swing at doing something like this, so they can only get better from here. I'm going to choose to be optimistic while I still go get a 4WS Capra for my RPCR build :P
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it and I agree that there should be different price points for all levels and budgets. Thanks for watching!
Yes it's definitely worth it compared to it's competitors! Yes it's not scale but for me I don't care about that. The standard features outweighs traxxas and axial out of the box. My only biggest concern now is parts support...
There's a labelled knob for the drag brake that allows for variable drag break adjustment. Messing with the dip-switches for drag brake seemed to mess other stuff up for me.
Yes, I should have clarified that point, apologies!
Ilike the complexity, in my trx4 i use all the functions and i use it as a speed car with 4s lipo also. I like all the functions from the FMS i would use all these functions in crawling trailing or speeding. I never liked the simple single speed transmission trail trucks. From the first time i saw the TRX4 with all these functions, lockincked and unlocked diffs, 4wd and awd and the portal axles, instantly i loved it and i said to my self i want it as it is. I would use the dig function just to do burnouts with the front wheels and in crawling situation and i would put a 4000 kv motor with 4s lipo to do speed runs and i would use the dig function to do drifting for example. I don't use my trx4 for crawling only and the same usage i would do with the FMS. Of course single speed trail trucks are not useless but i want to do everything i can do with these trucks and this extra complexity gives me extra fun at least for me.
Glad to hear it! I prefer simpler things, but that's just me!
At this point there is nothing to innovate, its all been done. Unless someone puts an actual 4 speed automatic transmission in an RC, the RC crawler and trail trucks have all the functions a real truck has. For FMS to have done this different would have been scale 10 bolt Chevy axles with leaf springs, which wouldn't sell because the majority don't care about detail, just performance. As for problems out of the box, I think that is a bit of a roll of the dice. Greg broke a bumper on the Redcat in his review and Joe thrashed it harder with no issue. You had issues with this but Phill ran his without issue. The body does look a little weird with or without the cap on the back. If I really want a Blazer, I think I would go with the GMade Buffalo.
Yes, agreed nicely put
I think over criticism was applied. I recall when traxxas had their release, it was in the middle of the pandemic. It was hard to get, and the price was higher than it is now - so I wound up buying the sport. I think this makes an opportunity for those that wanted one but their ship had sailed..
I may consider getting one. The body's close enough for me. I'd Remove the turn signals tho. Just wish there was a 4wd-Rwd-Dig option instead
It seems really good from what i have seen.
Sbg has been bybfar the most negative on this truck.
Have a look at some other reviews.
You can convert to rwd-4wd if you open the gearbox and invert the locker and move and shorthen an axle pin on the output shaft. Agreed, dig should have been the option to convert to, rwd is way cooler.
Ok I wrote a comment before the end of the vid.
After seeing it flounder with driveline issues I certainly won't be clearing a space for this rig on my shelf. Perhaps the problem lie's with the initial setup at the factory before boxing.
That last detail may be biting them......
you say it is similar layout as the trx4 like it's a bad thing, i aint no rc desingner therefore i cant say fore sure but there is certainly not a thousand way to build a 1/10 crawler with a blazer body. not the best clipless system for sure but they didnt copy at least. they went simple with a desing that would make a good balance front to back and put part in the middle so it's balance from side to side.
Fair enough. Thanks for watching!
Looks like an awesome blazer it’s in my wish list along with the traxxas blazer still undecided to which is a good truck to buy but I enjoyed your video really helpful
Glad I could help!
I expected some kind of buff goodreacher on that truck 😅
i would love to see some type of third person video on how you record and then edit. so cool man great job.
Thanks! It's a one man job, so I'll have to see if I can convince someone to come and shoot me filming!
Great video , ive just recieved mine to do a review on my show soon, maybe you just had a dodgy one lol, ill let you know how i get on, keep up the good work
I might have gotten a lemon! Thanks for watching and I hope you have better luck with yours!
It seems to be falling into Cadillac territory, but like you said.. some people like that sort of thing. If you're all about crawlers, then this is probably really awesome to some. That high speed gear might be for mud slinging? I only have a couple basic crawlers (1 currently running), but I don't need all those doo-dads and dip switches either. Just a winch that works for those tough spots.
fms does nice hard plastic abs bodies, but this one is just lexan body 😢
Just bought one. Sever gear grinding because the servo on CH6 is not set properly. Working with FMS to resolve issue.
Glad I’m not the only one! I spent two hours last night resolving this problem on my own. Luckily there wasn’t anything permanently broken, and I was able to fix it. Good luck with your fix, setting the end points and trims are covered in the manual.
@@scalebuildersguildthanks for the tip man! Gonna take a look at the manual. Did you just play with the EPA or disassemble stuff?
@@kahmed7328 I took the battery tray off so I could see everything function.
@@scalebuildersguildok cool! Will do the same.
The honest review is best and yeah it’s just a toy but it’s 400 dollars it should function properly out of the box the full feature trucks are fun sometimes to challenge yourself open diff crawling but for sure more moving parts means more complexity and potential to fail
I like how it can be put in rear wheel drive only.
I could deal without dig. I do like that you can decide which locker you lock
The details are really nice, but the longer I look at the body the worse the pain behind my eye becomes! Stretched and smooshed sums it up.
“Swing and a miss…”
That drifting at the end was sweet
I was about ready to buy this truck. Thanks for the review.
You're welcome! I've had feedback that I might have gotten a lemon, so keep that in mind!
get it. It's a fantastic truck
My bet is all those shift/diff lock/unlock servos are the first to go... (they're usually junk to start with)
I'm with you to many gizmos I don't need dig/lock unlock/2 speed I don't bash my crawlers (hence the name) and I don't comp, added headaches and expense. thanks for telling it like it is.
Glad I could help!
Trx4 3 years almost flawless. Driven hard 300 plus hours. The parts are starting to break. Diffs work. Blew a servo and cable link. Do not submerse in water. Smoked esc.
My FMS FCX18 was amazing value but sounds similar to this. Decent design, good features, good value - but finnicky parts or set up. I blew a rear pinion gear 20 minutes into the first run on my LC80. I'd reckon that this model will have some very common failure points that once remedied will make it a great truck eventually.
I'm most upset that the wheel base and width of it make it completely incompatible with other bodies and parts though.
The end was the best part, Blazer on ice.
Could you do a follow-up video about the problems that you encountered?
Maybe when I get time! Kind of busy at the moment!
I think it adds some realism for sure. The body definitely seems off as far as the proportions are concerned. I still prefer my trx-4. Awesome video
Thanks for watching!
ive been running a couple of TRX4s with all the bells and whistles with no problems now for a couple of years, could be just my luck but could be the TRX4 is better quality than the FMS, just saying
Simple best. Why many parts when fewer parts do trick?
Use your thumbs in the back and press up on the tailgate while holding the tabs, it's easy as pie
Cool!! But I wish it had a hard body shell with functional doors and interior to add a 6in figures as driver
That would be cool!
@@scalebuildersguild yes!!!!! Hopefully FMS starts making them like that.
I pulled all the guts out of it and put scx10 transmission, axles, a red cat 7 Vader transmission plate, it's definitely 4x4 all the time now
lockable diffs is nice, 2 sped is nice. dig...kinda useless with lockable/unlockable diffs. light kit is nice.
