      ​​@@gmikaleesangmibbvip Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly were born in the same year, so Grace couldn't be a successor to Audrey. Ruta Lee had an entirely different style; she was very flamboyant, almost wild, and can't be compared to the serene elegance of Grace and Audrey. Add to that, she was only 6 years older than Grace and Audrey, so she couldn't be a successor to either of them.

    Audrey was a minimalist. The impeccable cut of her clothing didn’t require accessories piled on ala Chanel. The Givenchy designs just skimmed her body. Jackie also sought this skimming silhouette. Nothing more timeless.

      HI Kay! I’m so happy that you posted this comment. Isn’t it just lovely, like she was? That line comes from a letter that Sam Levinson wrote to his granddaughter, when she was born. Audrey entitled it, Time-Tested Beauty Tips. Audrey loved it so much that she read selections from it on her last Christmas Eve, so her son Sean said. Sean spoke last at her funeral and read it.
      Here is it in its entirety, I think that you will enjoy it.
      For attractive lips, read words of kindness.
      For a lovely eyes, seek out good in people.
      For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
      For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day.

    Audrey Hepburn was one of those rare creatures of nature who without any action on her part could draw people to her like a magnet. Its hard to analyze why this was so. Part of it was her beauty but somehow her beautiful personality emanated from her without a word. I find it amazing.

    Ms. Hepburn has been my fashion idol for years. She inspired me ever since I saw the film "Charade" (with Cary Grant) in the 60's. Her Givenchy wardrobe was perfection!

    You made some great points! I love the quotes! I recently attended a wedding where one of the guests was a woman in her 70's. Second to the bride, who is stunningly beautiful, this woman was the most attractive guest in attendance, primarily because she adhered to all three principles you featured. Since I found your channel a few months ago you have made such a difference for me . I am 56 full figured plus size woman .     As I 've mentioned previously, as a preteen I was embarrassed when classmates compared me to Ms. Audrey. I thought that they were making fun of my very petite shape and pixie Sassoon haircut (though a lighter color than hers.) I also had a swan neck. Now I realize that it was an ultra compliment.

    Love this video. A testimony to Audrey that she has been gone for awhile now, but everywhere you go ...you see her in pictures, ads and as someone to model. Her sons speak so highly of her, her beauty was more than skin deep....yes she was elegant.

    OMG! I just re-watched Breakfast at Tiffany's last night, getting lost in Audrey's beautiful style as Holly.
    I adore red lipstick and wear it often. I absolutely believe that any woman can wear red if she wants. I'm a green-eyed redhead and people often tell me they're surprised that I can "get away" with red lips. It's all about finding the right one!
    And yes, elegance never fades.

      Total coincidence! I also just watched Breakfast at Tiffanys, not once but twice, on my flight home to Norway on New Years Eve. It’s been one of my favorites since I was a little girl.

      Patty R...as a brunette, I can tell you I cannot spend the time to find a red shade of lipstick, also if you have very thin lips, a red looks really odd. I wore red in my 20s (during the 80s) but in the 90s Bobbi Brown came out with her brown shades, and nobody made any red lipsticks (don't even think about the major grocery store brands - they wear out within minutes).

      @@marinazagrai1623 Hey, you know something? I remember when Bobbi Brown introduced brown-based lipsticks. It was due to her influence that I started wearing brownish red lipsticks. I remember her saying that all makeup colours look better if they have some brown in them.

      I’ve worn Revlon Cherries in the Snow. It’s a beautiful red that’s been around since 1951. This shade is one of the most celebrated lipsticks from Revlon and is still in production making it one of the “Vintage” Revlon shades. It is red with a strong pinkish undertone.

      Diane Durante I love this suggestion. These three women have always fascinated me and I think that it is interesting that Audrey, Jackie, and Grace were all born the same year, 1929, and all died young. (I think 52 and 64 is young. :-). )

    I love her, she is incredible , but she has this attitude, elegance, grace and discipline of a ballet dancer. The same concernes the Prima ballerina, an icon of ballet history: Margot Fonteyn. Her style her movement her behavior, was music and full of elegance. She dressed up very elegant.

      @Wanda Benton : The “stars” of this era are trash. The classic elegance of old Hollywood is long gone. The people today are as ugly inside as they are out. There’s nothing classy about them. I miss the old Hollywood elegance that was represented by Ms. Hepburn, Ms. Kelly, etc.

    Oh, so lovely. A very elegant stroll down memory lane. A breath of fresh air in the midst of all the spandex and general sloppiness one sees anytime one is out in public. So grateful for your channel. I'm 78 and refuse to give up my own style. Thank you, Marie-Anne!

    My confidence rises and falls (probably applies to everyone) according to mood, hormones and circumstances, and it effects how boldly I dress; whether I feel like wearing something a little bit out there or something more conventional. But always, an outfit or style that suits me, flatters me and is chic and elegant boosts my confidence, no matter how high or low it is. Working through this process, plus losing weight, has helped me be braver, which increases my confidence. So while there are days I don’t wish to be noticed, overall my confidence is growing. The third one made me smile because I would never have described myself as beautiful. Now I can fall back on elegance at 50 plus. An elegant woman is always admirable at any age. When my husband heard your voice, he said, “Oh, good!” He said you are a good teacher, teaching us to think about clothes. And so you know he is a man of taste and discernment, he bought me a gorgeous, perfect, cool burgundy red handbag this week. Love that man!

    The best compliment I ever got was from my friend who saw me in my black and white trench, smiled and said. "You look amazing. So very Audrey Hepburn." That moment gave me confidence to this day.

    Audrey Hepburn is one of my favorite style icons. I think her style is timeless and ageless. The second point on confidence is so true. I love to wear hats. I wore them to work. Everyone loved them and most people would tell me how they could never wear hats. They felt they didn’t look good on them. I always figured they didn’t find the right style. Now I know it was lack of confidence. Everyone looks great in a hat but you have to feel it first. Love the Style quotes. Love Audrey 💕

    Audrey is timeless and classic. I don't think she will ever be out of style and maybe it came from her heart. Audrey said the "happy girls are the prettiest". Best beauty secret is in your smile. I will as be a fan of Audrey. After her acting years she devoted time to UNICEF to help children in worn torn countries. She left us fashion but more importantly, she left us the deeper meaning to this life.

    Most people picture Audrey in her younger years, Hollywood glamour, Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc. For me, her lasting legacy of style and elegance is of her later years. Most of us would look like hot sweaty messes working deep in the African subcontinent; Audrey still looked elegant and pulled together without a stylist, or indeed a shower, in sight. Now that is class!!!

    Marie Anne, thank you for this! The second point really resonates with me; I have just cut my hair very short and while I was sure it was the right thing to do as it fits my style, in the few days since I’ve struggled a bit with styling and getting used to it. But I know it’s right and I must wear it with confidence until it feels natural!

      I went from long hair to short hair for the first time years ago, and it took a while. I haven't looked back, apart from when my sister asked if I'd grow it out because she didn't remember me with long hair. The first time I saw myself in the mirror after getting it cut was a moment of recognition - oh, that's me, that's who I am. Which I never really had with long hair.

      Marie-Anne Lecoeur Desinvolte was very encouraging! While I always try to present a cared-for and thoughtful image, perfection is not possible and I am who I am, fluffy hair in a humid climate! I would love to hear your thoughts about style in warmer locales...perhaps the south of France? I am struggling to tweak my style to fit in a coastal locale. Thank you for all you share!

    My favorite style is the menswear from the 40s and the idea came to me watching studio photos of Katherine Hepburn...I know, similar names but different styles. She was an accomplished dancer (she took ballet classes as far as I remember) and acting came second. She was born into the first family of Barons in the Netherlands (the only reason I mention this, is because she, as well as all young women of the upper classes, went to finishing schools - mostly Switzerland).

I have dark skin and so far I am still looking. And your video about lack of self confidence and its effect, is a real classic. These lessons are all wonderful and classic.

    I love hats. But they are not an “in” style choice. Everyone is more casual. But i still wear them. And when I do, i feel quite beautiful. And receive many compliments! would say it requires a soupçon of courage to dress in what you love and feel attractive wearing. Worth the occasional side grimace...😊 from others who are more focused on fashion than personal style. Love audrey! And your video!

      I wear hats often. I actually spent a year in a very loud cowboy hat that was my "writing hat". One of my bosses hated it, but since I was sure to style it properly with clothes he only dared once to demand I remove it (something he would have never done to a man), so I removed my entire self from his meeting. He never said a word about the hat again.

    I love the style of Madame Christine Lagarde. She always seems very confident and self assured. Always beautifully and appropriately dressed. She just turned 64 on 1st January.
    Loved the video, I have always admired Audrey Hepburn and her style. I think there is a scene at the beginning of Breakfast at Tiffany's where she is wearing only a white shirt. So simple but she looks gorgeous.

    I love Audrey Hepburn. She was so classy. Her taste in clothes were impeccable. She was a ray of sunshine on the big screen.
    He son's recently Auctioned off a lot of her prized possessions. Lisa Eldridge, makeup artist, won her Cartier Gold and jeweled lipstick holder. It still had her signature color in it. Pink in the Afternoon. She showed it on her RUclips channel.

    Wonderful video. Thank you. The tip/lesson that resonates for me is that elegance emanates from within. It is not about buying designer items and piling them on which to me is crass. It is about knowing who you are and being comfortable in your skin. Another element is a touch of mysteriousness. When I look at pictures of Audrey Hepburn, I am reminded of a quote attributed to Greta Garbo .. “ There are many things in your heart you can never tell to another person. They are you, your private joys and sorrows, and you can never tell them.You cheapen yourself, the inside of yourself when you tell them. “

    I love red lipstick but I’m now in my late 50s.... and more importantly, I’m a natural strawberry blond. I’ve tried red lipstick several times and have always found it too harsh for my colouring. I stick to coral shades and colours that are more subtle. But I always admire the red tones on you, Marie Anne, and others that suit it! I agree with Audrey’s other two rules, and it does help to be gorgeous!

      the problem with her is that she's not a very nice person, and that diminishes her overall appeal at least for the Spaniards, look around for videos how she treated her Mother in Law at an easter church service a few years back, and there are a lot of not so flattering behavior being caught on video. I would never think Audrey Hepburn or other amazing elegant women would behave like Letizia with such a lack of class and manners towards Queen Sophia that is a real class act and is an amazing woman.

    Love your video but I also love Audrey Hepburn! It is so true about confidence. I work in a small, independent shoe and accessories shop and the number of ladies who come in and state that they couldn’t wear something because of their age/ or other excuse. I explain they can wear anything if they have the confidence. Age is just a number. If something is their style, they should wear it and feel confident and enjoy wearing it.

Please consider making another video Audrey Hepburn and others who embody French principles of elegance and chic (Catherine Deneuve, Genevieve Antoine Dariaux, perhaps lesser known women) as they matured. Photos of a young AH are a marvel but less relatable than photos of an older AH. You are the marvelous teacher I’ve been looking for all my adult life- thank you so much!

    Love this! There are so many shades of red. If you know your season, it should be easier to find your right red. If you know you look better in warm colors chose a warmer red. If you look better in cooler colors chose a cool red. That said, I'm still looking for my red!

    When I read the comments on this channel, I'm not surprised that the viewers are interested in taste and class. But on the subject of confidence, if the comments are read just generally on youtube, there are so many off the wall (odd, strange) people making comments. Everyone on this channel by comparison should have a lot of confidence and never under-rate themselves.
    I do tend to value intellect as much as I value beauty, so that's my value system, but good taste and common sense really are things to gain confidence from. Imho.

    Thank you for this video! Audrey Hepburn is my favorite style icon. I have photos of her framed in my closet/dressing room. I can relate to the second style lesson about a shade of red for every woman. For me that shade of red is a deep burgundy. It looks good on me because I have dark hair and green eyes. Wearing that color always makes me feel like a queen.

    Something that I admire about Audrey Hepburn is her humanitarian work. She was beautiful inside and out. Your first lesson about wearing red reminded me that I used to think that I couldn't wear red. Eventually, I realized just what you are talking about. I had to find the right shades of red that worked for me.

    My mother loved Audrey Hepburn's hairstyle. Mother was the first in the neighborhood to get a pixie cut in the mid 1950s. She wore her hair like that until the day she died. Mother, an American, loved anything French. ❤
