    A big THANK YOU for making and posting this video! Saved me a ton of time yesterday, and now I have a similar camera system (ZeroEdge Dual-lens Cam) installed. The hardest part was fishing wires through the rubber tube collar and down the frame. One has to be careful when fishing wires so that they don't strip typically quite thin insulation layer against very sharp metal edges. For the same reason, the way you put the A/V wire through to the front of the car (i.e., by first removing bottom panels and laying the wire along with and securing to existing cables, instead of just tucking the wire under) is crucial. Great job!

    Thanks for taking the time to post the video. I recently removed this exact mirror with a different camera from a friends truck. It will be installed onto my truck but I have a couple of questions.
    1-what are the three buttons for on the backside of the mirror?
    2-the mirror was powered off of a 12v source up front and worked only when in reverse. It seemed to operate normal wired like that. I guess it triggers off of the video RCA? I didn't get a manual for this set up. Did your manual specify to run the 12V from the rear?

      Hi, I'm in the process of installing a backup camera on my 2006 but got stuck because I couldn't seem to push that RCA plug through that opening mentioned in his video. It seems like the metal is fused together at that point and I even shined a light through the hole and no light went through the other side. How were you able to get the RCA plug past that point after it goes through the rubber boot? Thanks for any advice if any!!

    I tried to feed the RCA plug through the opening as you shown in the video but there is no opening. I confirmed this by shining a light through on the other side of the weatherstripping and no light came through. It looks like the metal panels are fused together and there's no way for the cable to go through and down. I see the other wires and cables going "Up" through the headliner but none going down on the rubber boot side. Would I need to go up and through the headliner like what the other wires are doing? I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and perhaps there are difference in the metal frame?

    Video was very helpful, but sadly I bought the exact same monitor that you demonstrated and I absolutely HATED the monitor. during day light driving, the outside glare was way too much to see anything from the monitor. I was very disappointed, and in the end I end up spending more to change the monitor.
    But without a doubt, your video helped me with my installation, but there's much to be desired from that monitor

    I have a question about wiring. I bought a rearview camera with recording capacity that came with the rear view mirror as a screen. Rearview mirror is simple enough to strap around the old mirror and has a only one power line to connect to the cigarette lighter connector. The question is a wiring the rearview camera. It came with 2 wires (black and red) that black goes to the front mirror for pictures and red is the power source that connects to the back up light to turn on the camera when gear shift in reverse. I understand till this part. But if engine is turned off, there is no power to display the camera or record. I need an extra power line to connect to the rearview camera from the battery source or fuse box. But, if I connect that power line with red line that came out of rearview camera instead of backup light what about backup light screen that it came up automatically when I'm in reverse? Do you know what I mean? Otherwise I have to run a dedicated third wire but where do I connect the third line?
    Please advice me how to solve this problem. Tks.

    Great tutorial. Any advice for those install into a nav unit? Specifically the hiding of the wires? Your video shows pretty much everything up until running the wires to the A-pillar, which I wouldn't think you would have to do when going into a nav unit. Any helpful tips? Thanks

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 лет назад

      slurpeyatari I would assume if you your nav unit accepts composite video input, then you can connect to it. As to running the wire, you will need to run it right up to the foot well area along the firewall and back behind the center stack and to the nav unit. Just tie it to any existing wire bundle you see if possible.

    Hello - I'm trouble shooting my back up camera (wired to a pioneer head unit). Everything engages when in reverse, however, the image projected on my screen is flickering and appears in black and white (it's a color camera). I know it's a long shot, but I just thought I'd ask if you might have any idea why this is happening. Thanks for reading!

  • @JSmith-si2km

    This is a very detailed and helpful tutorial. Thanks! I do have one concern about the product that I was hoping you could help with before I go about installation. When I look at the mirror, both pre and post-installation, it doesn't seem that the device is very clear or effective as a basic rearview mirror when the car is not in reverse. Do you have issues with rearview visuality when the LCD is not active?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 лет назад +1

      The fact that the LCD is embedded behind a mirror, there are 2 things I notice about the product. One is you get some reflection glare when viewing the LCD during daytime. The image itself is very much crystal clear with very good color contrast. The second thing about using this mirror is when using it as a rearview mirror, it appears to have a bit of a grey tint on it making the reflected image a bit dark. As you saw in the beginning of the video, I showed my other car with a dedicated LCD and that has neither of these things I mentioned. I am still using this product in my Odyssey and don't feel a need to change it at this time.

  • @Spaghetti888
    @Spaghetti888 10 лет назад

    Hey, great video! Just a quick question: how does it compare to having the separate screen that you had before? Which do you prefer? I see that on your previous install you had the screen above the mirror but the mirror is lower down? Also, how's this new screen function mirror in the daylight? I see that some screens look quite dark...

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 лет назад

      After using it for awhile, I like the separate screen better. The rearview mirror with built in LCD does seem darker and also has quite a bit reflection in bright daylight. However if like the Odyssey, it doesn't have much space, then you don't really have many options.

    I got this monitor aswell, but it just turns on and off everytime i put it in reverse. I kind of flashes in an uneven pattern. I got a + from reverse light, and just grounded the camera in my backhatch, then the RCA cable has a little red wire which i assume is a remote wire, so i attached that to the reverse light + aswell. And at the monitor i grounded it at the interior lights, and the RCA cable connected to the monitor and red remote wire to monitors +. But all the monitor does is flash whenever i put in reverse.

  • @chrlsrchrdsn

    Thanks for the video. I learned a lot of specifics that will save me time on any project like this on my Odyssey. I don't know if you can answer this, but I have a 2008 with reverse cam, but there no grids to help "see" where the car is when you are backing up. First, how did you align the grid when you installed. Further do you know where the grid is injected? Is it the LCD or the cam that adds the grid? I would like to modify my odyssey to have the grid which are very useful in backing up in tight spaces.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 лет назад

      The grid is coming from the camera itself. I am not sure if the aftermarket camera is a plug and play to the factory unit, and I can envision it will require some customizing to mount it. The new factory systems these days will actually bend those grid lines as you turn which this one doesn't. So these aftermarket ones are limited in what it can actually show you as far as distance.

    • @dial2fast

      I am guessing when you say 'camera at the front' that you are talking about the LCD display at the front. Everything is using the backup light for power because both the backup camera and the front LCD only turns on when you go into reverse (backup light).

    hi, did you have any problems getting the cables under the trim between the mirror/windshield. I'm trying to install a camera in my different car (04 Toyota Avalon) and can't find any way to get the cables under there.
    not sure if its different in the odyssey but if possible please let me know.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 лет назад

      They might be using a headliner material that is very stiff, but headliners are meant to be removed. Typically wouldn't be glued on. Just get your finger underneath it and see if you can bend it down. Or if you have the A pillar trim removed, you can try to use a coat hanger to fish the wire from the side of the headliner towards the middle where the mirror is.

  • @mcl866

    hi, one quick question. The 12 volt wire you ran along side with the rca cable, is that one wire only? meaning there is no black negative within that red cable as well correct. At about the 11:22 mark the connection you have there is the reverse 12 volt connected to the power cord to the mirror and the ground from the mirror is just an extension to the ground. Can you just confirm all that. please and thank you.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 лет назад

      Manny, yes, I ran the 12V red wire (from the reverse light) from the back to the front. I also ran the RCA video wire from back to the front. The mirror does need a ground wire (black) but I got it from a grounding point under the passenger kick panel. So these 3 connections are all that the mirror needs to work. Also it's better to keep the ground wire short so you don't have a possible grounding loop problem.

    Got a question? == So I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey Touring and already have a backup camera. I looked around and maybe could put the second camera on the opposite side next to the license plate light. Where would you suggest I put a second camera? • @dial2fast

    • @neilpatel2698

      +dial2fast So then just tap into the reverse light and add a wire, but doesn't that require some harness?

  • @12vgs8606
    @12vgs8606 10 лет назад

    Great video! I am wondering couple of things
    1 - why do you need to feed three wires all the way to the front? You already have the power and ground picked up from the backup lights. Why do you need extra power and ground going from the front to back? Given the solid state camera, it would be drawing minimal power and there would be no need to have it feed separately
    2 - I thought there were wireless camera available for this application for just few dollars more which needs no wires running from front to back?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 лет назад +2

      Hi! 1) I only ran 2 wires from back to front. The black wire was the yellow RCA. The red wire was connected to the reverse +12V to supply power to the front LCD mirror. Remember both camera and LCD mirror comes on only when you put the car in reverse. I took the ground from the front where I showed you on the passenger kick panel. 2) Oh the wonderful wireless camera. I had one in my other vehicle for about 4 years. It has all kinds of RF interference. The image was always noisy and washed out. The camera died couple years into use. So no more wireless camera for me. By the way, you will still need to do just as much wiring because you still need to wire the LCD display to the reverse +12V so it turns on when you backup. You only skip one wire which is the video RCA cable.

    • @12vgs8606
      @12vgs8606 10 лет назад

      thanks for the explanation! I had forgot about the trigger to the camera. Is it possible that reverse sensor (inside the transmission housing) takes it power from the inside fuse panel? If so, that would be something to tap in to i.e. just follow the backup light wire all the way to the fuse panel inside and you tap the trigger there. I am thankful for your comments on the wireless camera, I was not aware of their lousy performance or reliability,

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 лет назад

      With any install, you work with what you know. Finding the reverse wire from the front fuse panel will be way more challenging than tapping off the reverse light wire. There is no win win situation in this type of install because you have 2 devices that both need reverse 12V and so happen one is at the front and one is at the back.

  • @giordaniel
    @giordaniel 6 лет назад

    • @dial2fast

      Now to think of it, I don't think I tried the LCD without any inputs. I would guess it's either black screen or blue screen. If it's blue, then it's the unit itself injecting a blue screen with video loss.

    Thank you for the video! I have a 2008 Odyssey and this was helpful to know where to run the camera wire through to the main part of the cabin. My camera came with a 26' cable which was the perfect length. a.co/d/9XQaRWz It was REALLY difficult to get the camera wire through the grommet. The grommet is really tight space. Note that the Steering Wheel Control wire on the 2007 Odyssey is in a different place; I found another video that identified it. It is on the main radio connector. Also instead of the rear view mirror, I bought an Android Head Unit and installed that to connect to the camera.

  • @GeorgeGardinier
    @GeorgeGardinier 10 лет назад

    again very good sir, in real time, how long did it take to do it, and the ground could have been secured to the chasis at the rear could it not. for 23 bucks that seems good, some time later could you update the camera in the day time and or park , would it be good enough to hitch a trailer too maybe

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 лет назад

      The install time was 4 hours (including video recording). Yes the ground can be connected to from the back but then that would mean I would have an extra wire to run to the front. Also I didn't want to use the 'ground' wire off the reverse bulb. Concerned there may be a ground loop to power the LCD mirror. As to using for hitching a trailer, I would say it's good to guide you but it's hard to use this type of camera to judge distance since it has such a wide angle view. But I know a friend who has a factory camera to hitch his boat trailer say after few use, you know what to look for. And I will find time to do an update video during the day. Thanks!!

    It is not easier to feed it through the headliner? That way you pulling out less stuff , plus your wire will be long enough.

    How would you suggest i wire mine to always stay on. I have a 2000 Dodge Neon Flat Black with 5% window tint in the back. I would like my camera to always be on so its easier to see during day and night.
    Here are the options i have been thinking:
    1. Wiring it directly to my second battery
    2. Keep my headlights always on and wire it directly to me tail lights
    If you know of any other options please let me know.

      If you want to stay on whenever your car is running, then wire to your ignition 12V. You will have to find and tap ign 12v under your dash or fuse box, or if you have an ignition 12V cigarette socket. Don't forget to fuse it for safety.

      masses yozd I did have an older wireless backup camera and they always have some kind of interference with back picture clarity. I ripped it out and went to these wired ones. As far as I know, you won't be able to run 3 of those wireless cameras together as they will all interfere with each other. They are not synced from camera to LCD screen.

      +Hitesh Pursnani Anytime you mess with something in the car (mechanical or electrical), if you encounter issues related the that area, dealers can deny you warranty service for that specific repair. I did put a link in the video but you might not see it if you are on a mobile app. I also put a link in the description now. To find similar camera on Ebay, search for 'anti fog night vision car rear view backup camera'. This search will bring up many different camera styles, and you will have to find the one you want.
      ===================
