      exactly it was approved by a larger percentage of the population of the world than the percentage of people who believe that a transgender person is what they think they are after they transition. I believe slavery was extremely bad but the world had slaves long before anyone from England came here on the mayflower so shouldn’t England be required to pay the white people who owned slaves for teaching them how great owning slaves was

    I can't stand how people say "Science says," or "Science would disagree," as if science is a being that walks around with a voice and an opinion. Science is a tool WE use to observe and draw conclusions. The conclusions we draw are mostly interpretive and often skewed by, yes, politics, but also convictions, believes, and culture. Pure scientific study does not exist, which is why science needs to remain skeptical.

    • @evangelicalcatholics
      @evangelicalcatholics 6 дней назад +1

      @@bengreene4972 It's not that it's "hard to understand," but that it's putting undue transcendent thinking to science, as if science, without the observation and conclusions of the individual, has a mind all its own. It doesn't. Science, as a tool, still needs the human factor -- interpretation. And it's in interpretation where people who despise God will use science as an opposing god.

    • @bengreene4972
      @bengreene4972 6 дней назад

      @@evangelicalcatholics yeah there’s no conspiracy in science to deny god, if anything the opposite is true. I’ve never heard or seen anyone actually refer to science as an entity or a god so it’s a bit silly to be so concerned about it, you’re reading way too much into it. The people that don’t believe in god don’t really care about god lol, let alone would go out of their way to oppose a being that they don’t believe exists. Religious people do try and fail to use science to prove their religions and deny fields of science that they believe contradicts their own nonsensical beliefs

      True scientists know that science is never absolutely settled. Centuries ago, the world's best scientists KNEW that the Earth was the center of the solar system. They KNEW the Earth was flat. They executed Galileo because he disagreed, and we now know Galileo was correct.
      I'm no scientist, but I have taken science classes, and the most basic principle in trying to prove or disprove a hypothesis is having a control group and an experimental group (where a variable is changed) and measuring data over time.
      Such an experiment is impossible with planet Earth. The best they can do is collect data and prove a correlation.
      And true scientists know that even a perfect correlation does not prove causation.

    Native American is an incorrect term as there were no indigenous people in North America. There were some who came here earlier but all were settlers and as more came they fought with one another to take land for themselves. So the white settlers that came later only did the same thing but better.

    Christopher Columbus's voyages had profound and often devastating impacts on indigenous peoples in the Americas. While he is sometimes celebrated for his exploratory achievements, the arrival of Columbus and subsequent European settlers brought significant suffering to native populations. Here are some key aspects of that impact:
    Disease:
    - Introduction of Foreign Diseases: Europeans, including Columbus and his crew, brought diseases like smallpox, measles, and influenza to the Americas. Indigenous populations had no immunity to these diseases, leading to widespread epidemics and significant population decline. Some estimates suggest that disease alone wiped out up to 90% of the native population in some areas.
    Violence and Enslavement:
    - Enslavement and Forced Labor:
    Columbus and his men enslaved many indigenous people, forcing them to work in mining, agriculture, and as personal servants. The e commendation system, which allowed Spanish settlers to claim land and force local inhabitants into labor, further exacerbated this exploitation.
    - **Violence and Brutality:** Armed conflicts, massacres, and severe punishments were common. The search for gold and other resources often led to brutal treatment of native populations, including torture and killings.
    ### Cultural Displacement and Destruction:
    - **Loss of Land:** The arrival of Europeans led to the widespread seizure of indigenous lands. Traditional ways of life were disrupted as communities were forced off their ancestral territories.
    - **Cultural Suppression:** Indigenous languages, traditions, and religions were often suppressed. European settlers imposed their own cultures, leading to significant loss of indigenous heritage and identity.
    ### Social and Economic Disruption:
    - **Disruption of Societies:** The introduction of European goods, animals, and technologies (like guns and horses) disrupted existing social structures and economies. Some communities adapted, but many struggled with the rapid changes imposed upon them.
    - **Role in the Atlantic Slave Trade:** The initial failure to find abundant gold in the Caribbean led to the exploitation of native peoples as a labor source. This, in turn, was a precursor to the broader transatlantic slave trade, in which millions of Africans were forcibly brought to the Americas.
    In summary, Columbus's arrival marked the beginning of an era of conquest, colonization, and exploitation for indigenous peoples in the Americas, resulting in immense suffering, cultural loss, and population declines.

    You all are both dilusional about Christopher Columbus. Columbus was completely insane. The first thing he did was claim he saw land first when he didn't. The deal was whoever saw land first got a pension for life from the Crown, and the young man who actually saw land first was screwed over. That made his crew mad. Columbus was so brutal and violent that even the Spanish thought he was over doing it and had him arrested and sent back to Spain in chains. He never recovered from this. I don't understand why Americans celebrate Columbus so much when we could just as easily celebrate the Vikings who actually found the New World first.
