Understanding restrictions of time, I do think it is a shame that there was no mention of the parallels between the history of the State of Israel and the States of Canada and the USA. India and South Africa were used as examples of differences but I do believe an examination of “North American” colonial erasure would show more of a similarity with the colonial erasure that has and is occurring in Palestine. In North America, it was also true that the goal was not to subjugate the Indigenous population as labourers but rather to seek out their complete elimination and the total expropriation of land. Francesca Albanese’s “Totality Triple Lens” would seem to make this clear. Further, the efforts to defang and hold captive populations of Indigenous people is mirrored between the USA and Canada’s broken treaties with parallels between the Oslo Accords and the Two Row Wampum or the Indian Act, etc. I do appreciate the speech as it is but I think it is an incomplete analysis without considering the link between these histories.
