Well now, this doesn't happen every day! ... Your video of the Monster 821 convinced me! I'm 65 years young, got off a Suzuki TL 1000R and onto a Ducati Monster 1100 Evo which suits my riding comfort needs without ANY sacrifice of the pleasures of being astride a fire breathing mechanical beast that, as you alluded, SPEAKS TO ME. But I desire something a little less maintenance intensive, an acceptable daily to work and back commuter, the 821 & 1200 were on my radar, like you I 'like' the 1200 but just can't really justify it. The 821 then competed in my mind with the 937, ... Long story shorter, your video=821 solid winner! Thank you, subscribed, obviously liked, looking forward to more. PS ~ NOT moving the 1100 Evo on, it's a keeper 2012 with just under 7500 miles🙂
Test drove the 797 yesterday. Will go back on purchase day and decide between the 821 and 797. Returning to riding after 32 years. I also test rode the MT-09. I had no problem with the 797. First shift to 2nd on the MT-09 I pulled the wheel off the ground lol. I will probably go with Ducati because I always wanted one.
You can’t go wrong with any of them, but I definitely lean toward the 821! I loved my 797 but the 821 just comes with fewer compromises. Whatever you decide to get, congrats and have fun!
@@woodyracing49 How has the reliability been on your 821? This is a strong contender along with a street triple r, Yamaha mt09 or Triumph speed twin. I ride a lot and I’m worried about the Ducati leaving me stranded out in Timbuktu.
i have the 2015 Dark 821 with Termi pipes. Comfortable, plenty of torque, lots of usable power. and it looks the part. Triumph street triple is a great bike and possibly a better buy but the Ducati just works for me. I do have a Triumph Sprint st 1050 and the triple engine is sublime. Good video.
Oooh I’m still torn on the new Monsters. They’re absolutely better in every way that I wasn’t complaining about and lost a lot of the parts I liked. I’m leaning more towards a Supersport if I get another Ducati though.
Sounds like the deal I got for my 821. I honestly would have gone with the SC Project exhaust for my 821, if I could do it over again. SC p Matches the bike better.
I barley got me a Ducati 821 a 2016 model with 8k miles for 5,200 it came with clear clutch cover a hydraulic clutch a weeks exhaust a tail tidy kit and new rear tire I felt like I was robbing the dude cause he said he’ll take 5k flat but I was ok with 5,200 and for only having 8k miles is crazy
@@woodyracing49 Im negotiating a 821 dark for daily commutes, the only 2 things bothering me are the engine heat in traffic, and I think I might get tired of the exhaust sound. What do you think about that? Here in Brazil it gets +35 C° easily
@@MeuZbagoIt definitely gets hot in traffic. It’s 33-35 degrees here right now and it’s noticeable but doesn’t keep me from doing anything. The stock exhaust is pretty decent, I think. It’s not obnoxious but still sounds decent when you’re really getting on it. I vote go for it!
7000,- with 600 miles on it is a very good deal, if I see a deal like that I'm buying instantly, but I doubt I'm going to see a deal like that living in Ireland
I definitely couldn’t turn it down. I’ve actually got an exhaust, a tail tidy kit, mirrors, signals, and some other odds and ends ready to go on, that’ll be in a video next week, I’m excited!
@@bmini3444 Yesterday i had a seat on the stripe and actually I'm always cornering with the toes on the pegs. The seller didn't want me do have a small ride, so I couldn't check if it disturbs me or not. But I suppose sporty ride with hanging off for knee dragging it will disturb me. So it might be the 821 or 1200s from 2018..
I like them and would love to own one, but it hasn’t happened yet. I used to be a Triumph mechanic and I loved their scramblers, so I’m sure the Duc Scrambler with the 800 or 1100 2V would be a blast. Maybe one day!
Yeah the monster 821 is fantastic but why get a 797 with 75hp when the 821 has urban mode which cuts power to 75 hp from 110ish.. 4 years and 33,000 miles owning a 821 and its a love hate relationship.
For me, it’s mostly nostalgia for the air cooled Ducati’s. I had a M695 years ago that I loved, I spent some time in Italy on an 1100S, and my most recent track bike was a 2007 800SS. I just love the look, the sound, and the character of the 2V Ducs. The 821 is only my 2nd 4V Ducati (the other was a 996S). The riding modes are probably great for a new rider though, I agree on that assuming they have the willpower to use them. Hell, my first bike was an F4i when I was 16 and I survived (somehow). And as a former Ducati technician, I actually enjoy doing the valve adjustments on the 2Vs but not so much on the 4Vs.
Great lookin scoot, Woody! Also, great job on the production quality of the video. 😉 Hope all is well and cheers from your old MSRIDERS crew!
Thanks Jarod, I appreciate that! Hope ya'll are doin well!
I ride in Paris every day with a 821 Dark and loving it ! 😎😍

Bought the 821 today!!

great review dude, you pretty much talked about what i was lookin for
Looks like your clutch leaver needs a little pull to the left, it might help with your high beam problem

Oh man, I’ve always liked riding the Sprint ST, excellent bike! The 1050 motor is a classic, couldn’t agree more. Thanks!
Dude u need to test all bikes...luv ur commentary. Keep it up
Awesome man!
Where was this filmed?
Thanks! This was done just outside of Meridian, Mississippi
Hey dude please tell me about heating issue ....is it ok if i buy for a daily commute ?
You should go for the 2021 Monster

Lube your clutch cable every so often, I say this since it cured my choppy throttle significantly.
I have a feeling a hydraulic clutch conversion will be coming if I keep the 821 long, it’s so weird having a Duc with a cable clutch

I recommend the competition werkes exhaust, getting the servo eliminator and the motodynamics tail tidy

How is the heat? Does that pipe roast your leg?
Oh it’s definitely there but it’s not as bad as a lot of Ducs are. It’s been tolerable for me the few times I’ve sat in traffic on 90+ degree days.
I have a 2015 821stripe its my baby.
I'm struggling between 821 stripe 2015, sounds better then 2018, but passenger footpegs from 2015 are sucking

The build quality on Triumphs is awful, too. I had a Street Triple R, it was a POS from the start. My Ducati is much higher quality.
