What I expect from a full open-World Mario game, is one that starts off linear to ease you into it, and than at the halfway point (or even earlier than that) it suddenly all opens up and you'll be able to go back and explore everything all at once, around the bits that you were previously tethered to.
Yes
We really haven't had a complete open-world Mario game. Nintendo created Mario 3D Land, Mario 3D World, and Bowser's Fury just to dip their toes in the water.
Open World 3D Mario would be a dream come true.
That would be so Awesome
Mario odyssey was everything I wanted in a 3D mario game. I can't believe there isn't a sequel already.
I found it a little boring. You jsut bump into stuff and things kind of jsut happen, felt liek the most for kids of all the games
@@randyjarrell3423i agree its kinda Boring its like Mario Party for Mario Platforming Randomness
it needs a Sequel a lot badly
@@randyjarrell3423 No idea what you're even referring to.
There are CONSTANT things to do in Odyssey. Even just platforming around is a joy! Exactly what I'd expect from the best Mario has ever controlled!
I the next 3-D Mario game is gonna be Odyssey two
OK I have a idea...
What if you can ride your Mario cart around the open world Mario title kind of like Plessie in Bowsers fury but you can upgrade your kart and customize it that would be insane, imagine driving to little levels and tasks like Bowsers fury but no water and trees and enemies that ambush you and stuff😃😃!
very cool idea
I would love an open world 3D mario but i don’t agree with the part of upgrading his move set because that would be really tedious
The best I'd like to see is Super Mario Odyssey 2, because there is still so much potential and unused ideas/characters we can turn into. If not, I'd like to see something similar. I think next mario could have something with time travel - from prehistoric, through medieval and future at the end. So he could have nice gadgets and weapons.
8:20 I’ve been wanting a Mario game that follows the BotW formula (as you described) for years. An open world Mario with several dozen linear mini challenges would be the perfect balance. And there is so much you could pull from past games for these mini challenges, they could be like the levels where F.L.U.D.D was taken away in Sunshine, or a Mario galaxy level, they could unlock power-ups like you do with the Metal/Vanish/Wing cap in SM64, some could even be 2D - perhaps by bringing back the 2D sections in Odyssey
The thing with you get your mechanics by getting forward is something that rayman did even in his first game.
I know a perfect solution to Mario being an open world game and keep its charm as a platform game. Use warp zones like in Mario oddessy like when you go into the moon pipes or hat doors. How about that?
Perhaps the recent flurry of Mario RPG remakes is setting the stage for an open-world rpg adventure?
This would neatly explain the levelling up/power system, with certain areas requiring a certain amount of power/equipment, or partners etc
Almost like the ultimate mashup of Mario & Luigi, Mario rpg & paper Mario, but in a full 3D open world setting that feels more comfortable for the casual/platforming players
An open world Mario game with a whole bunch of kingdoms to explore and upgrades to Mario's moveset would be great!
But, hear me out. What if the game took inspiration from Kirby and the Forgotten Land in which you could upgrade Mario's powerups? That would be awesome!
Can Luigi be playable and can you ride on Yoshi
@user-oo6nq9zx5c yes and yes
I could also imagine having a giant roster of characters like in the many lego games, only this time it's with Mario characters
Can you imagine a Fire Mario that's actually on fire or a flying Squirrel suit that can attack while in the air? There's so many possibilities.
@Mymy_Gaming_channel_64 absolutely! So much potential for cool new attack options and powers
YES
I would be awesome if, instead of some linear platforming scattered around a pretty bland world, like in bowser's fury, it would be:
Area 1: Cities in the mushroom kingdom with buildings you can climb in different ways and platforming across rooftops like in the mario movie and kind of like in new donk city, with toads walking around and shops and cafés you can go into spread all around. I think this would be a great, harmless invironment to get used to Mario's moveset
Area 2:
A desert (of corse), with a town similar to tosterena town, just bigger, and mesas with fun new enemies and maybe caves with small buried towns in them.
Area 3:
The mesas continue to climb higher into a mountain range, with snow topped peaks and a town of rock climbers and miners. There could be avalanches and maybe you have to rescue an inhabitant form a yeti.
Area 4:
The mountains fall off and reveal a valley with multiple rivers and old small towns which have been overrun by bowser's troops and you have to free the towns and rebuild them similar to the lurlin village quest from totk
Area 5: over some more small mountains there is a rainforest, in threre live small creatures on towns in treetops, like ewok village from Star wars, but also monkeys who often steal the inhabitants things especially shiny things (and hats) , like their prised possession the jungles emerald, and you have to find out where they live and infiltrate their hideout and steal it back
Honestly I have runout of ideas, but if you have some write them in the replies.
You would travel between the areas using Mario's new ability to talk to animals, you could ride on a leopard to go fast, or glide on a falcon high through the air, the animals could also change vesed on the location.
I feel like that could be something Nintendo does, though it is a bit similar to older titles, with the world order being similar to the new super mario bros. Games and animal mechanic being similar to captures
Hope you like my idea, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
And if you are reading this nintendo land, your videos are awsome
I wouldn't say the Galaxys are “linear”. The only similarity to linear is being confined in the space, but you're on little round planets with a limited “roaming” format (to make a goal appear once a task is completed, like the “open” games) instead of a definite direction toward a fixed goal. So it's really another separate category from the others.
I myself like linear, as it's what Mario started out as, and it created a “flow” of going through a level to the next. But since they just did a new 2D (which is of course linear), the next 3D probably won't be linear. Most likely, something based or framed off of Bowser's Fury.
I always thought that chart they made was weird, the Galaxy games have way more in common with the sandbox games than 3D Land/World. They’re based around that style of gameplay, with a free roam camera, whereas 3D Land/World are more like 2D Marios with extra depth.
and there’s plenty of planets in the games designed with that Mario 64 type sandbox format.

This works for Zelda and Metroidvanias, but not for Mario, because Mario-Games are fun because of the movement. Restricting the player doesn't make any sense in a Mario-Game. It would be just unfun.
I hope a Mario odyssey 2 will be open world
I feel like if open world Mario were to work, it has to be a Metroid-vania style game. Otherwise it would be far too easy. But no matter what I need the movement to be at least Odyssey quality
8:30 you were just describing Sonic Frontiers right now lol but I wouldn't mind since I had a blast with Frontiers
I would absolutely *LOVE* to see an open world-Mario-Game, too. But I really want it to be fully open world. Not like Bowser's Fury where you had to unlock specific areas. I think it would be awesome if it was like BotW or TotK, so that everything is accessible right from the beginning, but of course with the great Mario-Movement.
I would make the main-collectible make something like this:
You can go whereever you want in every possible order in this world, except of the final boss. Bowser is behind a great gate and the player needs to build some kind of weapon (a big hammer for example) in order to break the gate and enter the final boss.
Every main boss has a specific element which you need to build this weapon. So you have to defeat every main boss and beside this collect many of the main-collectibles (but not every) to enter the final boss and beat the game. Or you need just 4 of the 7 main bosses and the main-collectibles.
Or they make it like in the newest Zelda-Games and you can instantly go to Bowser, but I would prefer the former idea.
These are some of my ideas to this. And I think an open world-Mario-Game would be the ultimate videogame. 😊
Good video! 👌
Flying with the wing cap in a open world Mario game is the dream
3d world/land and the galaxy games are quite different. 3d land/world are formatted like 2d games, but 3d. Galaxy games are different.
I want the new 3D Mario to be something like Super Mario 3D Land (I like how it is like a 2D mario but it's 3D. Like seriously. )
I like linear better than totally open world. When there is no story and campaignes are over i get bored. I like when tasks progressing the story. When i just can do whatever whenever and it doesnt lead anywhere forward it feels meaningless.
Agreed open world with ways to upgrade Mario!! I would 100% love to just run around immersed in a mario land running into all sorts of Mario flora and fauna!!!
It’s crazy that there hasn’t been a true full 3D Mario game since Super Mario Odyssey.
6:06 theres could be 6/7 areas based on tradicional biomes the franchise have and each of this biomes, would be around a Super Mario Odyssey Kingdom
You know Nin10doland since you mentioned something about upgrading Mario at 9:10, I feel like they would have to bring back Mario’s firebrand from superstar saga and give him new techniques
Im definitely excited for this next 3D Mario
Same!
Me too!
What you’re saying sounds a lot like what Sonic Frontiers is.
"Cat" -egory!! 😂😂
Hear me out, a 3D open world game where Mario visits past 2D games
Any way, I’m good. I love the 3D land/ world formula, but a collect a thon Mario game would be great as well. Don’t even get me started on a sandbox Mario game. As long as it stays Mario and doesn’t have a lot of annoying crossover elements, I’m happy.
I could see the new 3D Mario game being open world in which you go through many kingdoms such as the Mushroom Kingdom, DK’s Kingdom, Sarassaland, the Flower Kingdom, etc. it would be really cool to have all of these areas in the same game!
I still STRONGLY stick with the policy of ONLY Nintendo CAN TELL US WHEN. Otherwise, I STILL STRONGLY DOUBT that there will be another 3D Mario game, whether it is Sandbox or fully open-world.
I would like a Mario odyssey with puzzles and varying tasks. I dont want to collect 100 moons.
The next 3D open world Mario game could be like Sonic Frontiers
I'm liking the pun your making with cat
I'm fine with any Mario type. Open world would be interesting as a new approach. Bowser's Furry had some issues that would need to get hammered out. Really though, for me, the only thing I demand out of my next Mario game is for something a bit deeper and more heartwarming between Mario and Peach because Odyssey let me down in that department.
8:56 if you're a kirby fan, just think of interdimensional magolor.
I would be fine with another linear or sandbox 3D Mario game but i think an open world 3D Mario game is the most likely
Im expecting the new 3D Mario game to be like Bowsers Fury but similar
I don't know what the next 3D Mario game is called we've had Super Mario Bros. Wonder but I guess it's a matter of watch this space.
I think the 3-D open world game is where are you have to open gates to unlock the other worlds and you would have to collect stuff not just stars but other stuff as well
Bowser fury would fit in 3D sandbox since….the map is a huge 3D sandbox
Mario 3D games are linear sand boxes........ Here's hoping that we get a more LOZ styled open world for Mario.
I think the next 3-D Mario game is gonna be Mario, Odyssey two
I hope it’s a 3d open world Mario game since odyssey is the first open world Mario game i wish if it’s a open world Mario game
Yay, I love being lied to. Please continue doing it.
To add onto the level up thing, maybe that's how you obtain power ups and they're like items in an inventory that you can equip.
Okay so for the new 3D open world Mario game you know it would be cool to see Mario going through different worlds in different Nintendo Games he goes too so for Kirby I'm thinking like the dimensional being in Dreamland could be Dark Matter and okay in the game I don't think they should not make Kirby talk just make him say hiiiiiii and Poyo multiple times and that's it. But okay so I'm thinking like Mario would have the ability to become a puffball like Kirby so then he can suck up enemies and then he can use Kirby's copy abilities like Sword, Beam, Fire, Ice, Stone, Ninja, Doctor, Hammer, Artist, Bomb, Bubble, Animal, Circus, Clean, Cook, Crash, Cutter, Fighter, Spark, Needle, Mirror, and all the other copy abilities Kirby uses in the games so yeah that would be cool if Mario was in Dreamland. And maybe the bosses he faces in Dreamland are King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Dark Matter. And I would love for this game to happen from Nintendo cause it looks so much fun seeing Mario traveling through his games and also Nintendo IPs as well that I would play cause it looks so much fun.
I'd honestly love to see the next 3D Mario game take elements of Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury and combine them together. Basically Bowser's Fury, but on the scale, and with the ambition and creativity of Odyssey. Give Mario his movement from Odyssey, but with a world as interconnected as Bowser's Fury with both linear and sandbox platforming sections at the same time while having some bonus platforming sections like Sunshine and Odyssey have and also having powerups you can use freely with sandbox style movement at the same time as well. I'd be up for another linear 3D Mario or sandbox game, but I agree with you and think Bowser's Fury's interconnected open world is the most natural direction for 3D Mario to go for now, considering how much potential it has, but I'd love to see a third Galaxy game but I don't think it's very likely to happen. With how much Mario Sunshine's been getting callbacks lately, I feel like a Super Mario Sunshine 2 might be happening or a possibility, but not 100% sure on that. If any past 3D Mario game would benefit from a sequel, it's Sunshine, because I've always wanted to see that game's untapped potential be fully realized like all the other 3D Mario games have, so I hope it happens.
Be nice git more costumes for Mario and about same move for super Mario Odyssey in next 3d Mario 😊.
What if there's a Mario equivalent game to Sonic Frontiers?
Like I'd love to see a new Combat System being innovated here, as I think it would be way more interesting to see that, rather than jumping into an Enemies Head for the 100000000000th Time
Sure it doesn't have to be Mario being brutally smashing his Enemies, but darn it if they already have Mario's fighting moveset in the Various Smash Games, then why not implement it here for the next Game already?
It would be cool if they combined Odyssey and galaxy
I hope it's an open world 3d game with Luigi and Yoshi. And the multiplayer would have player 2 control one of them so you can team up
If they make a Mario game where Mario and Cappy travel through different universes, I will definitely play it.
it would be better if the open world 3d mario game had more charcters to choose like Toad or luigi
My i will asept whatever mario games because is fun
I just want Nintendo to bring back the galaxy formula
If there was another open world Mario game, would they do the Bowser's Fury and Mario Odyssey route of multiplayer (Mario and a less "important" character) or would they do the traditional route? Still, running around the Mushroom Kingdom (or maybe even the Flower Kingdom) freely would be SO COOL!
If we were getting a new console before 2025, we’d already know about it. and we won’t be getting *another* Mario game in 2024, we’re already getting 4 Mario series releases next year instead of the usual 2.
and releasing a new 3D Mario before 2025 directly goes against Nintendo’s Mario release schedule the past decade:
2013: 3D World
2015: Mario Maker
2017: Odyssey
2019: Mario Maker 2
2021: Bowser’s Fury
2023: Wonder
2025: (new 3D game)
I like and prefer 3D open-world/sandbox better than 2D side-scrollers.
By the way, I haven't watched anything from Breath of the Wild yet, so that was a spoiler for me.
Not necessarily related to gameplay, and not necessarily a fully original idea (Mario RPG did it in a way) ... But I think it's time to introduce a new main-villain into the universe. Bowser should become a playable character and team up with Mario and the gang to defeat this new enemy. Mario games (besides Galaxy 1) have never been big on story, but I think shaking it up would be fresh and fun.
We need a open world type of game with infinite world generation
Another skill tree is the last thing we need we already have way to many
TEARS OF THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM
Imagine its would go for the "Alternate dimension" route or maybe use time travel again like PIT where you have to collect enough parts to get to the next dimension, While fighting dimension-altered Koopalings like an Arabian Lemmy that uses snakes in stead of balls or maybe a Stone age Morton that uses the different Dinosaurs. You'll also be able to play as Luigi. Peach, Daisy, Yoshi and Toad.
Mario Odyssey was kind of a great version of Mario is Missing, traveling the world and such. So a great take on the ideas in Mario's Time Machine would be absolutely excellent! Take great ideas from awful games and make them awesome!
Imagine a sequel to Odyssey, where Mario and Cappy accidentally break time and the universe and they have to fix it while defeating Bowser. It’ll kind of be like Netflix’s We Lost our Human.
Will it be both? Open world/sandbox style for the surface, and semi-linear for the skies/space?
Please do not make Mario level up with skill trees. It will break the finely tuned difficulty of platforming challenges. The only leveling up should be figuring out new moves and understanding the game mechanics.
I hope they don't use subareas like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom shrines. I hope players can find can just find a platforming challenge in the distance and use a launcher to fly there without a loading screen. Most importantly, will the cameras be improved?
So a little like Mario galixy?
I think Odyssey 2 or an entirely new 3d game is most likely
I'm pretty sure the next 3d Mario game is going to be a disappointment.
I don’t want an open world Mario game. You can’t just change the formula like that, super Mario has to be somewhat familiar to its predecessors. If super Mario becomes the legend of Zelda in terms of it being open world, then I’m not playing it.
Would love super Mario galaxy3
I hope it’s not sandbox but I won’t be upset if it is. If it’s open world I hope it to be very different from Bower’s Fury.
Galaxy 3 👀
I want to see an open world 3D Mario.
I want a Mario 3D open World but i just don't want a open World liké Sonic frontiers with only an open World ans some platforms only that will be a Bad Idea I think
Marioo💙
I hope it is open world
not related but if Wonder were to get DLC when should we expect it ?
Odyssey 2 please!!!!😊
We need mario 64 2
I hope the next 3D Mario game will be a Mario game similar to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom to where you have to complete challenges in shrines to unlock different abilities and it being in the open world category
I know I'm in the minority here, but I HATE HATE HATE open world games. And I know that's "the thing" now. But I hate them sooo much, and hope we don't stay here. Which I also know is likely not gonna be the case :-/
I feel like this video is based on my comment 😅
OPEN WORLD RPG Pease Nintendo
i know this is your usual click bait title but i'lll see what the fk ur tallking about today
Maybe take some inspiration from the Super Mario Bros Movie, with all the different kingdoms including Bowser’s.
46th
Not the New 3D Mario, but i know that we’ll get next year or in 2025 A Super Mario Galaxy 2 Remake/Remaster due to fact that in the last upcoming years of the Switch era there’s a lot of Remakes/Remasters of old Mario titles upcoming
Sixth.😊
Please not another Mario Odyssey. Too much wandering around which makes it just a Mario-fied version of every other open world game where you just find Easter eggs.
God I hope it's not a open world. Odyssey was boring enough. Open world looses my interest real quick.
Easy, do it correctly.
Your title was a complete and total lie…. Disliked
Open World. And I want...to see...the Koopalings...in a 3D space!
