  • Using silica this year made my garden so much more resilient. To pests, weather and disease. Silica is a mineral commonly found in the Earth's crust, but usually it's absent from our gardens. When applied continually it acts as a booster to the plants immune system. Improve heat, water and cold stress, disease resistance and even resistance to pests. Horsetail is a natural source of organic silica and it has been used as an insecticide and fungicide for hundreds of years

Thanks! I am not sure if it is similar effect but I am going to start mixing some DE powder into my can when fertilizing during the early vegetative growth periods. Pretty sure DE is a good source of Silica. Somebody let me know if I'm on the wrong track. I don't like buying new products if I can use something I have in the shed. LOL

Ross, how soon after applying this can you consume the produce?
As for paying more attention because of staying home - that’s what brought me back to gardening and to figs. I haven’t been able to work because of the virus and started gardening again. Unexpected benefits.
I’ll definitely give it a try. I want to give my plants the best chance I can.

I added protekt, pure neem (I realized I'd been using fake neem last two years....) and Milky Spore Powder to my collection this year. As you say it can be hard to say *exactly* what effects are from what, but pest pressure is def waaaayyyyyyyy down this year. Japanese Beetle destroyed my grapes last year (and more, but they tore through the grapes), so far this year I've only seen like six J beetles. That's mostly from the powder I assume, but regarding the protekt I def feel like I noticed that stuff helping my plants. Both reducing pests and just overall helping the plants. Seems to perk everything up very nicely to get it growing well, and it also seemed to help all the indoor tropicals. By the time you bring them out in spring they're a little unhappy, but they perked up quickly after I first added protekt. Def appreciate you shouting silica out in your vids, I def feel like it's helped. And having real neem is DEF a noticeable difference over the fake stuff that only actually functions as a smothering agent

My shop was sold out of Dyna-gro so I picked up some Cyco Silica and you can almost instantly see the results. Every branch and leaf is perked up and looks super happy! How often do you apply and do you do a drench or light spray?

Isn’t your silica fertilizer just aqueous diatomaceous earth?
