Unfortunately I have a meeting at that time
@@dathorndike4908we will be there for a few hours
If you come across any of us older gay guys please be kind - we are survivors in every sense of the word including the saddest.
🦄
🙏
May God bless you sweetie🙏🥰
I can't help but think of my dear friend Simon Munslow-Taylor when I hear this song. Simon died of AIDS in 1986. R.I.P. sweetie. You were so loved. I am so lucky to still be here. So many others were taken too young. God bless all of them.
I love everyone
I'm putting it down to a generation gap. This film was enormously important when it came out, because it put the reality of HIV/AIDS discrimination right into the malls of America. With it's star power on screen and off (Neil Young also did a stunning music track that was also nominated for a Grammy), and its overall quality, the film and its topic became undeniable. In this song, Springsteen manages to catch the dark pathos of having a then-fatal disease with plodding rhythmic repetition, but also with more than a glimmer of hope and perspective. The fact that it was The Boss writing a song for a film that had gay implications was important too, because of his previously macho Americana image. The film and song are milestones. Don't hesitate, just see it.
I'm kinda surprised that he didn't delve into the lyrics/meaning of the song as he usually does then he'd realize the message and the songs importance.
@@steveullrich7737I'm surprised too, but this is still one of my favorite reaction channels. Salvo is always thoughtful and detailed. Anyone can misstep. I know I have...:)
@@donaldakin492 totally agree and understand we're all human.
This song still makes me cry after all of these years. My significant other had been one of casualties of the AIDS epidemic, dying the year prior to this songs release.
I'm sorry to hear that dude ❤️
i am sorry for your loss. May he RIP.
Trying to find words but nothing I can say will be enough. I was there, I know.
God bless you and all the bright souls waiting for us. ❤❤❤❤
Both the song and the movie are phenomenal.
Tom Hanks, Antonio Banderas, and Denzel Washington are at their best in this one.
Yes the official video is a must, and the movie "Philadelphia" from which the song is from is a must see❤
The movie will really put the song into perspective. Bruce says he is “ not good at writing scores” ….he nailed this one.
This song. This movie. ❤😢
Very well said
This song, and this film was so important at the time (still is now).
My preacious lover and I saw this movie when it first came out. He died of wasting syndrome a few months look later due to aids related complications. This song takes me back to that time and space. Suddenly he was gone. And so many of my friends as well. Aids is not gone. Please young people. Educate yourself, and be safe. A broken heart is avoidable.
The video is very powerful. The movie is very powerful. Now watch the video.
Great song now you should watched the movie, and then hear again the song
'Philadelphia' is the most beautiful movie. It came out only a year or so after we lost dear Freddie Mercury, so it took my a while to bring myself to watch it. Bruce's title track for this bittersweet masterpiece is astoundingly stunning.❤
Watch the movie. The song will makes sense. I’m a 65 year old grandma and the movie still hits my heart 💔
Oh dear God! Has it really been 40 years??? Im weeping now as I wept watching Bruce performing this at the Oscars. I stopped counting at 30...30 friends who died of HIV/AIDS during this time. The fear, the grief, the tragedy of it all. Please, everyone, give this song and this film the honor and dignity they deserve. ❤❤❤
I’m not a Springsteen fan but this song hits the emotions hard. Such a powerful movie, highly recommended watching it. The music video would have given more context.
62 GWM here who lost far too many in this time
Another great song from this soundtrack is “Philadelphia” by Neil Young.
I think Neil’s song is more heart wrenching
@@muriel2267 I agree 100% and is probably why it's at the end of the movie. I think both songs were up for the Academy Award/ Not a usual thing.
I think Neil's is the better of the two, honestly. Though I like them both.
@@muriel2267 Yes, he should give that one a go.
Great reaction....as always!! Now please go watch the movie!!! Both Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks were incredibly moving in this epic masterpiece movie!!! Don't miss out!!!🎶🎼🎵🎸🎤🎧🎹🥁🔥🔥
The movie will give this song more meaning in my opinion
Great movie and this song still hits ya in the feels today!
Omg this movie is sooo good. You should definitely watch it
And this song is a critical part of it
My partners (RIP Bob) office was used for this film, so it holds a place in my heart. Springsteen is a Jersey boy, as was I. Philly is my home for 36 years. I loved here (Bob) and then lost my one and only true love here - suddenly, 26 years ago. We both lost our brothers to HIV, and we were activists, street counselors, sat on political commissions, and worked heavily with the AIDS crisis. All you young LGBTQ kids out there - thank every older gay man and woman for our fight, which opened the door for the freedom you have today. And remember: silence=death, so don't be complacent and play safe.
My favourite Springsteen song. ❤ I also love
your imagination Salvo. Thanks for this
Oh my, did this song bring back memories of friends lost long ago. And i'm in tears as I close my eyes and see all their faces.
You need to see the movie now, and you'll understand.
This song is so sublimely beautiful. One of my favorites by The Boss.
This is the theme song for an incredible movie about a lawyer who was fired because he was gay, and got aids.....
YOU NEED TO DO THIS ( 93 ) ACADEMY AWARD WINNER SALVO!!! FOR SURE 😊BASED ON A TRUE STORY ABOUT ( ANDREW BECKETT ) IT'LL HIT YOU IN THE HEART, THAT'S FOR SURE!😮
Watch the movie and also listen to Neil Young’s contribution to the movie. His song plays in the final scene which basically breaks everyone who watches it.
I haven't watched the film in years but can vividly recall the song and the home video - and I'm tearing up.
Love this song, fits the movie so well!! You have to watch this movie Salvog!! You will cry and feel with your deepest emotions 👍
Shoulda watched the video
It cut off over a minute of the song
But it would've given meaning and context to the song.
@@phyl1042I will double back
By all means watch the movie. Very powerful, very relevant at the time. Thankfully things are better for sufferers of that horrible disease both medically and socially.
Excellent movie!!
I'm not a huge Springsteen fan, but hearing this song makes me weep. The movie is phenomenal and that's made more so by this sound tract from the film. Thank you for this one!
IF YOU DO THE FILM SALVO LET THE ENDING OF THE MOVIE PLAY CAUSE IT'S A ( NEIL YOUNG ) SONG! 😊IT WAS THE 1ST OF A BACK TO BACK OSCAR FOR ( TOM HANKS ) HE BACKED THIS UP WITH 94'S ( FORREST GUMP ) 😊
This is a beautiful song.
I think about all the great friends I loss. But they're still in my heart ❤😢
I think Neil Young's track from the same soundtrack was even better. Gives me goosebumps even. It was just called "Philadelphia".
Neil Young has a great ballad from this soundtrack also.
Great song and great movie - you should check it out.
My favorite Bruce Springsteen song it gets me every time this and the rising.
Your spot on, the 80s had such an incredible way of making an experience out of the music. The lyrics are deep and Bruce captures the the feel and fear about people dying of aids back then.
Def take the time to watch the video version on your own Salvo - it is worth the watch!
The main video is so interesting (if you like this song) Bruce is walking through Philly and sings a live track.
I love how you went back to the song. Nobody does that. Yes, my jacket was off, cigar was lit. Nice one fella.
Amazing song, but you can't really get it until you've seen the movie Philadelphia.
LOVE this song, and the movie is great so watch it, Sal!!
🇬🇧 Im 60 years old this year and i still have not watched this movie. I just know it will make me cry & be sad. I think i will watch it one day, but i would have to be on my own. "The Boss" did a great job with this song, haunting but beautiful. 🎼❤🎙️
Great movie, great soundtrack
Definitely must watch the movie. Have a box of tissues ready. Exceptional movie. This song, sealed the emotions to the movie.
I loved the movie and the song that came with it..... Important movie too! I think it helped make people understand what it meant to have AIDS. LJ
Nobody nails movie song like Springsteen. There's this one, plus "Secret Garden" from "Jerry McGuire, ""The Wrestler" from the movie of the same title, and "Dead Man Walking" from the movie of the same title. This one stands out in particular, because it’s told from the perspective of a man dying from AIDS.
Love movie and the song
You've got a lot to go through before getting to this.
The close your eyes and float away feeling you have described is what happens to me when I hear anything by Enya, but Only Time is my favorite . I have requested Enya before. I hope you will consider checking her out, because I think you will love her.
Beautiful movie and song
The lyrical phases “wasting away” and “slip this skin” are so descriptive of the tragedy of AIDS. It’s the perfect song for this poignant movie, a must see!
It's not kinda song....a lot of people feel like you....the song gives out a tone of someone going up an elevator in very tall 70 storey skyscraper, thinking a lover that he going to meet or in a taxi going somewhere on the streets of Philadelphia with that song on the radio and you are listening and watching buildings and people on the streets in the back seat of a taxi...sipping on whiskey 🥃 and thinking about someone special....the song does that to you. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I love it 🎉🎉🎉🎉Great reaction!!!
The lyrics are about a man dying from Aids. About how his clothes don't fit because of weight loss.
Fantastic song. Springsteen also has Secret Garden (string version, is amazing) from the movie Jerry Maguire. Another beautiful song to get lost in. Such a passionate, poetic songwriter
I'm only somewhat old (54), but I have lived through remarkable and dramatic changes in how society views the LGBTQ. I wish my gay cousin who took his own life in 1992 could have seen it; he might still be with us. Another film worth seeing is "And the Band Played On." It's about the AIDS epidemic.
This guy bricked it. The music video is so powerful.
Salvo, you need to watch the film. Philadelphia.
Not a huge fan, but love this one and “Tunnel Of Love”
Although this is one of The Boss's finest songs, when you watch the movie, you'll understand and feel the power of the message he's giving us. He's a songwriting genius.
I only like 3 Bruce songs: Streets of Philadelphia, I'm on fire, and Tunnel of love.
REALLY need to watch the movie to understand this song & the shattering depth of AIDS… it’s a totally different world now
this is one where you should of watched the video, not often i say that
LOL You've been watching too much Miami Vice Salvo :-D JKD
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
A thousand miles just to slip this skin"
"So receive me brother with your faithless kiss,
Or will we leave each other alone like this"
Great reaction to this song.
Back in the 80s party days, we knew about 15 gay guys. Now , only one is still alive. It turned into a tragic time by the end of that decade.
you have yo do neil youngs Philidelphia which lost to springsteens song at the academy and grammys.....but just as spectacular of a song.
Salvo, do yourself a huge favor and watch this movie! It was phenomenal in so many ways. IMHO, one of best performances ever from Hanks, Washington and Bandaras.
Great film
Love your reactions, always, but I feel like this is one where the context should have been available to you before you listened. (Honestly surprised that the person who suggested it sorta didn't mention that this song is from the perspective of someone dying of AIDS.)
I came of age during that time, and this song -- the reason I think it was (and is) considered so important -- is that it was very unusual for a very famous straight rock star to address this very terrifying and stigmatizing illness (which at the time was considered a very "shameful" gay disease).
The tone of this song is not chill ... it is actually haunting and tragic and a snapshot of a very horrific and traumatizing moment in time, especially for gay people like myself. This song is being sung from the point of view of someone watching themselves dying (and wasting away) before their own eyes, becoming "unrecognizable to myself." As good as this song is, every time I hear it it's like watching a horror movie from the past. I like the skill of Bruce's songwriting on this one, but I also hate how this song reminds me of that terrible time every time I hear it.
Just thought you should have had this context while listening. Still luv ya, G!
Secret Garden is another amazing song by him.
Great video, I'm from Brazil 🇧🇷
Intense movie. Scary times....sad song. The lyrics are very poignant. Holds a different meaning than the vibe of the song itself.
Understand what you are watching before watching it. Quality is better than quantity.
U should watch the movie all great performances ❤❤
You really should watch the movie.
❤️🔥
I prefer the song at the end of the movie. Neil Young doing Philadelphia.
You've got to react to La mamma morta
Any 80’s songs you react to, please do the official videos, as the music videos were often mini movies that explained the songs
You have to watch the movie.
This is one of those ones where it's different the reactor us not reacting to the video...🎩
Would u marry meee😂 nah its OK lol hugs from across d pond xx
Good song! But I would say the live version ( when he is walking through philadelphia) is better, just wish it would be in spotify

Great movie. Great soundtrack and Denzel and Tom stuck their necks out to create a moving experience. I loved it even though it was painful.
I’m sure they did not know the epidemic in the movie had Pharma (and Fauci) all over it (deadly drug treatments). Much of what was learned in medicine about HIV was a big head start on SARS-2. Many antivirals were found and drugs that did not work were used anyway. Ivermectin works on HIV also, so of course epidemiologists and those in that arena knew what to try in the recent pandemic. Too bad the patent expired so Pharma campaigned against it.
You are completely incorrect. Ivermectin doesn't do anything for HIV. Who are you to state this bullshit? Dr. Fauci was one of the pioneers of finding medications to save people's lives. Either you are a BOT, or you are insane. I lived through this entire time, and I can tell you that Dr. Fauci is part of the team that found the meds that are saving people's lives now. HIV is not a virus, it's a retrovirus. The first medicines were the first of their kind, and they were released early because patients were desperate. They weren't yet sure of dosages and yes, some people died from the earliest meds, but don't blame Dr. Fauci...he is one of the biggest heroes of HIV research and getting the Reagan Administration moving their ignorant asses to fund research.
Dude, when you switched your patreon supporters choice of a link you made a big mistake. And you read all of this thoughts about all of the awards that the song won but did not bother, at least in the beginning, to mention what that movie was about.
Worst of all, being from Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation, you bypassed the official Springsteen video with tons of fantastic footage of Philadelphia to go with the music. When I realized that you were not going to watch the official video, I didn't even watch the rest of your reaction. Boy did you miss out. I was around Center City Philadelphia when they filmed this movie and by chance I actually got to meet Tom Hanks and shake his hand. A story for another day. Hey dude, maybe I'll go back and watch this when you decide to do the real video. Love your work, but not this
choice. God bless.
I got Bruced and battered.
Tom Hanks best performance in this movie, in my opinion
