  • I took Flag Day Off to take care of some business at the courthouse but unbeknownst to me, the good people there are more patriotic than I expected (or have a better union…) and it was closed. As I was near, I went to Rochester where I got my first train of the day, a westbound mixed freight. Shortly thereafter, my friends @HistoricBF and @LTG1221 stopped by and we went and got a couple of pictures of NS #7541 assembling a train. There’s nothing particularly notable about this engine except that the engineer side door is black and doesn’t have the NS logo on it. This becomes relevant later.
After lunch, I headed up to Homewood and caught a long, slow-moving eastbound mixed freight with some interesting graffiti and fallen flag cars. But the really interesting part came later; #7541 completed putting together its train and was running west on Track 2 of the Fort Wayne Line with a mixed freight. As it was passing, NS #3655 rolled by solo leading an intermodal westbound on Track 1.
Shortly thereafter, NS #1031 lead 3 more locomotives eastbound on Track 1 with 3 8-axle flatcars bearing giant electrical components(?) bound for Brazil. And not long after that, more eastbounds followed on both Tracks 1 & 2. Not often you see a switch from double mains one direction to another!
