It's so weird seeing Kim's actress being happy and smiley
In the comic she has a much larger range of emotions
She finally punched scott's life in the face

Even weirder when you think that she played Anges Jurati on the first two seasons of Star Trek Picard - she was SO young here too. Although looking at the YT description - 12 YEARS AGO? THIS MOVIE IS 12 YEAR OLD? Holy schnikes.
The one guy in the film who looked like they didn't know how to play their instrument at all, is the one who actually knows how to play.
archy2frank2 I can image the Edgar Wright saying "Micheal that was great but I need you to be terrible."
Acting in a nutshell
lmao michael cera
I mean it explains Scott's bass "dance". Seems like only the kind of thing someone who really knew how to play would do.
And also that applies to most people that pick up an instrument. They general don't look the part.
I was gonna say the same thing! The way he plays is so unnatural looking!
Mark Webber had me totally convinced he was "the Talent" during the movie. Seeing now that he was the worst of the group is actually hilarious.
Neel Parmar he might actually be the talent if he got as good as he did in two weeks.
Summbuddie and learning how to play the guitar and sing at the same time too!!
@Neel Parmar I'm 2 years late, but that pun was actually hilarious, well done!
He is "the Talent" in real life. He is married to Teresa Palmer 1😉
He has the same nervous energy as Stephen Stills though, lmao
Glad this was in my recommendations 9 years later
time for a rewatch, grab the popcorn
Original comment guys we gottem
What a mood
Glad this was in my recommendations 10 years later
Imagine not seeing this movie when it came out
"You have a band?"
"Yeah we're terrible."
He wasn't kidding.
nativewood they are amazing
It’s almost like they decided to make a band before even picking up the instruments
Deepfried-fruitrollup Kinda like Marilyn Manson
"please come"
He was not kidding
"I'm on the virge of a nervous breakdown and a heart attack"
Sounds like Mark Webber was always in character even during the interviews
Idk how Michael Cera can dance off beat while playing like that
Haha it is weird? I’d start playing off if I’m dancing off beat.
Maybe he's that good?
from what im seeing, he is on beat, just at odd intervals
hes def on beat
Well they had said that he was the only one who already knew how to play.
I had no idea legendary director Edgar Wright was a 21 year old scene kid.
He's not, but Bryan Lee O'Malley is.
@@bronkula He was.
@@bronkulahe's like in his 40's tho? Wdym?

Mark Webber: Amateur musician who must impress the most talented music producers of all time.
Stephen Stills: Amateur musician who must impress the most talented music producers of all time.
So... he wasn't acting? 😏
Ha, I didn’t think about it that way. Mark’s real-life anxiousness about his performance was perfect for his character
@@Luschan in the comics, stephen was a nervous wreck before shows, often either drinking himself sick before they would go on
@@quinnmarchese6313 or getting a spontaneous haircut
It's so great that they actually played music... It would've been so easy to just studio register random musicians and do playback...
A playback would've been noticeable if they didn't know how to play at all, specially the drums. I don't think they recorded the instruments for the actual movie, though
@@RENX5 they did. Brie Larson sang her piece live as well
@@Goldennote Yep and her drummer was a real musician and she was performing as well, only Todd was faking
@@Goldennote Her version of Black Sheep rivals the original.
I also like Edgar's Wright's choice to use some non-musicians, and Beck's choice to arrange music that sounds like it would come from a grungy garage band.
Basically most of the cast were trained as Indie Music Ninjas.
except michael he already knew how to play
It would be so so sooo awesome if Mark, Michael and Alison would do a gig in honor of the 10th aniversary togethere where they play all the Songs. They had such a great chemistry.
Or just reunite to jam and live stream for us. I'd be just as happy.
*Togetheir 😁
Theyre all coming back for the animated show.
1:17 young neil just being himself
Lol
I noticed that tooooo
This was before he was known as... Neil
One time I was walking down the street by these houses and I spotted this guy mowing his lawn with his garage door open. In the garage were all these drum kits, and since I need a kit for my music I asked him if he was selling them, turns out he was, starts showing me al these kits in huge garage, I mean the entire garage just a bunch of drum kits. He pulls out this one kit and he told me they used it on set of Scott Pilgrim. I had my doubts of his honesty but through a mix of the fact that I live 45 mins from Toronto and how much he knew about the kit relating to the movie (explaining how the prop guys rusted the hinges and dirtied up the kit etc.) I figured he was for real. I never bought a kit from him but I know where to go if I do I guess. Just a cool story thought I'd share
Wholesome
Should of bought it and sold it as a collector's piece
That's cool
i see you everywhere you reprobate
@@trh2032 you penis, why would you buy something like that, then just "sell it? Of course, it's word of mouf without having a COA to back up such claim.
In the real world Scott wouldn't have a $3000 Rickenbacker
saw the exact bass in PMT music store and my jaw dropped when i saw the price
You can pick them up used for around $1500 U.S. (a little bit less if you're lucky), but yeah, I get your drift.
He borrowed it from his much more successful brother
Should have been a Peavey T-40
@@WillardTurner nahh get a nice Esp LTD M series for little over $100 bucks used, and they sound crunchy
They actually learned instruments and played the songs!? I have gained even more appreciation for this movie.
Wow, so learning how to play really worked into Webber's over-anxiety of being Stills. That's pretty awesome!
1:36 sounds like he's totally in character
I love it that Micheal Cera was so good at playing Guitar, he actually had to play worse in the movie just so he could fit in with the band and stay in-character 🤣
he plays bass
@@kevincrediblee6745 yes bass guitar
WTF GUITAR?
Bass Players when someone calls a bass a guitar : 😤😤😩😩😩😧😭😭😨😫😫😥😢😢😢😱😱
(This is a joke don't kill me pls ty)
I could tell Cera was a real bass player in the scene where he's doing to final fantasy riff. Felt very off-the-cuff and natural.
I love how Michael Cera was so good at bass that he had to learn how to play worse to be a convincing ammeter. XD
Allison did a great job on the drums. She hits everything when you watch closely.
She totally is hitting those drums with those sticks, yeah
Learning how to play guitar AND how to sing while playing guitar in only 2 months is insanely impressive
How does someone learn to play the guitar and sing at the same time in 2 months?
13superdude2 I've been trying for three years and still haven't gotten anywhere. Pretty amazing indeed.
13superdude2 Actors. They are actually people able to learn anything that's needed for their role. Actors are not just rich people. Actually, just few of great actors are famous.
13superdude2 my aunt is a vocal teacher, and she says that everyone can learn to sing, and that voice is a instrument that can be learned and dominated. Actors have good teachers because there is a lot of money involved. But that's pretty much it.
Mr.StrangeLove True
13superdude2 He's 'the talent' as you should know.
Kim Pine was so different until the final product!
HoustonProductions1 woah it's you
Its like shes an actor
To those asking how someone can learn to play guitar while singing in two months, the answer is:
CHORDS :D
Tell me more
Pls explain😳
@Eddi sure. So it still takes commitment and practice every day, but many basic songs (including stuff in Scott Pilgrim, a lot of which are prob simple "Power Chords") only use a handful of chords (can be as little as 3 or 4). Its important that you avoid songs that require a lot of picking (we only want songs where you just strum whole chords)
So, if you only commit to JUST practicing a BEGINNER song like that, and just practice its chords (learning what strumming patterns are will also help, but not 100% necessary to get off the ground), then you're basically 90% of the way to singing the song while playing.
You do that by just trying to sing while playing what you've learned (and ofc failing a bit, but sticking to it), and you will get closer and closer to fluidly playing + singing.
Edgar Wright was friggin genius for making a movie like this. So influential. Studied this in school as an example of FX / lie action stunts and both fulfilling narrative thrust.
Sad it didn't make as much commercially due to the arthouse midnight show marketing, but great that it got it's deserved following on DVD and through .... "downloads"... I have friends who are STILL finding this movie and falling in love with it. :)
It's weird knowing Kim is from teenage drama queen and she was just full of anxiety lol and she's full of idgaf
she flashed twitter too lol
And then later she played ivy on the cult season of american horror story lmao

petrifyer L Beck wrote/recorded all the music. The cast just “performed it”
@@tambow44 yeah but they didnt know how to perform before this, and i already knew about beck.
The power of effort, love and Beck created something truly beautiful.
Michael was the only one being able to play an instrument before shooting the movie? I cannot believe it, because at the amb-vs-amb the gestured ridiculously.
I think that was him just acting the part, but that's just what I think.
ChaosNe0 That’s just cause of what the character was like in the comics
Michael Cera is also a musician
There's also the drummer for Clash at Demmonhead, she was played by Tennesse Thomas who is a musician herself.
Fun Fact: The music director, Chris Murphy, is the singer / bassist from Sloan.
sometimes the youtube algorithm works and actually suggests something i didn’t know i desperately needed in my life.
this movie was way ahead of it's time
I love how Mark is as nervous to play as Stephen is in the movie
1:40 I think mark is still in character... lmao
The music in this movie is pretty good. Kind of makes me wish there was another movie like this.
Even in a film, the drummer can't stop when they're tuning
Underrated comment
Edgar's laugh.
Sounds sarcastic 😂
I realize that Alison Pill was the real hot one all this time.
Weird way to spell Mark Webber
Cera: I already know how to play bass.
Producer: Well, that saves us five minutes.
LOL
😆
alison pil is cool and cute at the same time.
the way he holds the bass reminds me of how lil wayne holds his guitar
I don't know why people don't like stills/mark like, mark literally made in 2 months what most of pro musicians learn in years, sing while playing and he did it pretty well, good job mark!
Who doesn't like him?
One of the best films Michael Cera has done (along with Superbad). And one of the best music/video gaming/indie/comic book adaptations ever done! Never
Why is this randomly on my recommended in 2020
Not complaining!
well if it's on your recommended, then you might appreciate the fact that "Sex Bob-omb's" are a real band on Spotify and have all of the original songs from the movie there!
because is the ten year anniversary of the movie
Samee
0:18 I adore Edgar’s laugh
One of my all time favorite movies hands down. A work of genius that is seriously underrated!
Edgar Wright literally sounds like a keyboard when he laughs. “hahahahahaha”
Their casting is so amazing.
Mark looked like a natural in the movie. Congrats to the team for all pulling it off on short notice.
Making movies is magical.
Learning guitar in two months isn’t hard but learning how to sing and play, now that’s hard
Alison is soo cool and beautiful at the same time
i would pay a lot to see them play all their songs live
Love to see Chris Murphy’s mustang bass stashed in the corner.
Michael Cera's album is absolutely amazing!
Oh wow.I love this kind of behind the scenes stuff. I want the Scott Pilgrim DVD or Blu Ray even much more than before.:-):-D
1:36 “i’m on the verge of a nervous breakdown and a heart attack” ME CONSTANTLY FUDJDDSJ
This randomly appeared in my recommendation, and I'm not disappointed. Thanks, RUclips. Ten years too late though.
Man, they should've toured as a publicity stunt for the movie that would've been amazing
I agree, i didnt realize how nerdy i was until i saw this film and my friends didnt get it lol
Same.
I heart this movie
Kaaxe I hearted this movie too
I'm in lesbians with this movie
Maynard Lewis I said lesbians...
Kingstad you mean you lesbian this movie
It's still wild that they took the time to learnt he song, instead of just faking it in post.
Swartzmann could have showed Alison a few lessons on the kit...wonder if he offered his expertise?
1:55 That's Nigel Godrich, who produced most Radiohead albums. The man is the GOAT.
I was like I’m in a band.
He was like you’re in a band?
And I was like yeahh, I am totally in a band 😂😂
IT'S BACK!
The Rickenbacker is the best part of the movie
GLITCHY BOY STUDIOS yeah.. Rest in Pieces :’(
edgar wright such a wise young lad
Mark Webber seemed so cool in the movie didn't realize he was so nervous pre-recording lol Kims awesome
katedamonkey I didnt even know he had to learn it until I saw this video. Because of the nerd, introverted character (but his looks say otherwise) and the indie band point of view Mark Webber's actor is in the movie, his nervous playing in it makes it seem like he knows what he is doing with the guitar (like most people who are already pro with it). That first time they perform in (before the fight with Patel) I was wondering why his character has to be nervous while Cera and Alison didnt (both of them whose character and looks really is nerdy and look introverted more so than Webber's). Now I think I know where the inspiration came from.
from the comic
Whoever edited the recommended video at the end to be at the bottom? I love you
I see no reason why big studios such as Disney could not do this with their actors and actresses when it comes to singing, instead of using obviously auto tuned voices for everything! Beauty and the beast sounded like a robot singing to me
I guess Young Neil did know all of Scott’s parts
Glad this was in my recommendations 10 years ago

I was impressed when Scott played the acoustic in the film. I was watching CLOSE. Yup.
Same. I was like is he playing? I’m like that seems right (I’m not a good guitarist but, I play) I picked up my guitar and was like okay, he’s not faking it like some movies. It’s funny when it’s a high lead and they’re up at like the first fret. It takes me right out of a movie. Some movies are better when you’re clueless.
Did not realize Chris from Sloan was the musical director. That is hella rad
1:20 lmaooo I remember this scene in the movie Cera sticks out like a sore thumb the way he’s vibing
Yoo!! The music director is Cjris Murphy! Had no idea! Hes singer of Sloan! One of my fav bands!
That bass guitar is bautifull. I love that oldskool look!
This is how I find out Chris Murphy from Sloan was a music director on this
It's quite fascinating that Michael Cera who looks like he's just chilling is actually a bomb guitar player.
