I once was a passenger when my friend got pulled over by the police. We had just finished work and gone to fill up the car with petrol (gas). When my friend started driving again, she had forgotten to turn on her headlights. It was after 3am. The police pulled us over, looked at our shocked faces, couldn't smell alcohol and laughed at us. We had realised when she pulled over the headlights were off. At least the police were good about it and had a laugh with us

I’m from the UK, the officers chasing the red fiesta were not armed, armed police in the UK are rare to see. They are normally called for organised crime or for people suspected of carrying a firearm. Even if someone is carrying a knife, armed police are not usually called unless they are the closest unit. Police chases usually consist of 3 TPAC vehicles and a dog unit, more units are called depended on how dangerous the situation is. These officers may be carrying a taser but although tasers are becoming more and more popular with the police most police do not have them. I found out that officers have the choose if they wish to carry a taser or not, so most officers will only carry them if they believe it’s integral to their safety on that shift. This means many officers still don’t carry them. Hope this helps

    • @Perseus7567
      @Perseus7567 4 месяца назад +2

There were armed officers there, the BMW SUV which ends up blocking at the very end is armed police; one of them is the guy smashing the front windscreen. I believe the unmarked BMW SUV was also armed response.
Whilst what you say is correct; firearms are rarely used, unfortunately due to an ever increasing under-staffing and under-funding problem, armed police units are being used for more regular calls. Many police forces have merged their firearms units with other units, sometimes this could be with the Dog Section, or sometimes the Roads Policing unit.
It's unfortunate, really. Many years ago, a firearms unit meant it was a firearms incident, now they've having to be called in for all kinds of incidents just to ensure someone can respond..
It's most likely here though that the firearms units were called in because of their advanced driving skills, which are the only ones with higher levels of driver training other than roads policing.

If you DUI in the UK, you WILL lose your licence and will likely run the risk of losing your job, depending what you do. Likely for 2 years and have to sit an extended driving test, and have a lot of questions about it. It's also listed as a criminal act, which would mess up security clearance and how people view your integrity. A lot of employment requires a clean driving licence and you'd end up fecked basically. I know in the Military, you're screwed if you do it. Speeding stays on your licence for 3 years, I think drink driving stays for 7 until spent as it's not a driving offence, but a criminal one. Even then I think some insurance companies insist on declarations of DUI convictions up to 10 years in the UK. I certainly wouldn't fancy a DUI on my wrap sheet.
I have dangerous driving, speeding etc on mine from when I was a dumb teenager on a motorbike, but that was 20 years ago and rack it up to 'young, dumb and fulla cum' and the cop got annoyed I could get my knee down round a roundabout. Only thing that saved my licence was I wrote a lovely letter to the Judge explaining I was deploying in 6 weeks and needed my licence to work overseas. They're all spent now and I drive like a grandad lol.
Young people drive and ride like they're invincible. Trust me, you aren't. Never give a police officer a reason to either visit your, or someone else's family to explain how they died. If you think it'd be traumatic for the cop, imagine what it'd be like for the family. Fuck it, so what if you're 2 minutes later?

TPAC (Tactical Pursuit and Containment) officers are highly skilled drivers that are trained to bring a pursuit to a safe stop using any means necessary. Their most popular method is the box manuever which aims to corner the suspect on busy stretches of road. The stinger is deployed on less populated areas of road. Laising with officers using detailed methods of communication is key to bringing an end to the pursuit before suspect "decamps" which means that suspects are ditching the vehicle and are fleeing on foot.

Better training allows them to put on such box manouvers with less risk than just ramming the suspect vehicle. Boxes are safer than PITs, and it takes more training to pull off a successful box.
The lack of guns also means there's no fear about getting in front of the suspect and becoming exposed. In the US, if you overtook a suspect, and they had a gun, they're going to target you first because you're in front of them and exposed, so police tend to stay behind, where they have the upper hand.

The reason it became law was that cart and coach drivers (being mainly right handed) almost all the time used a whip with their right hand, it was to protect pedestrians from being struck that the rules were to drive on the left to put the whip away from pedestrians and this spread from the congested towns and cities to all of the country.

UK alcohol limit is going to be defined differently from the US because of the metric system. It’s 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, while I think in the US and down here in Australia it’s a straightforward percentage (0.05 percent in Oz). I think it works out about the same or maybe a bit higher in the UK, but then drunk driving in the UK will usually result in a big fine and an instant licence suspension of at least 12 months and maybe 18. For a first offence.

I’m a Yorkshire girl - although I don’t live in York I am a regular there with work so know the streets very well. It has a population of about 142k. Its a very old city so the streets get narrower and windier as you get into the city centre and there are Roman walls to navigate round as well as other ancient and historical monuments plus numerous pedestrian only areas. It would have been disastrous to let the chase get into the centre.
I know you were shocked the police smashed the car windows but that was to disorientate the driver and passengers in order to get them under control easier. The training the traffic police have to undergo is extensive and far exceeds any training you get in the US.
Drink and drug driving is frowned upon and morally unacceptable. The book gets thrown at you if you drink/drug drive. You are disqualified from driving for a minimum of 12 months and may have to re-take your test. Car insurance companies won’t want to touch you with a barge pole.
My husband and daughter were involved in a serious RTC in North Yorkshire caused by a cocaine addled driver who decided to overtake numerous cars on a bend. The driver went to prison for 18 months (thats all that the Judge could send him to jail for as he got credit for a guilty plea and the maximum sentence for dangerous driving was 2 years). He was also disqualified from driving for 5 years. 5 and a half years on from the date of the accident and the civil proceedings for damages for personal injury have still not been finalised. The driver’s insurers accept liability but are haggling over what the damages payout should be. Its a disgrace.

You will be banned from driving for either drink driving or drug driving though the drug driving is much newer. In England the drink drive limit is 35mg/breath and a higher amount for blood.
