    Morning Tobin. My grandfather liked Mitchell’s and I like it. Yes it’s finicky and hard water can make it tricky. But I learned from my grandfather and I still use it. Nice helpful video for whipping up the Fat. My puck is in my Surrey Cadillac mug. Another thing I picked up from Grandpa. You take care and enjoy your week.

      That's awesome that your grandpa passed it down to you Derek!!!
      Thankfully I don't have hard water issues.
      Do you? If so, how do you get around the hard water?

    • @derrickhogue1868
      @derrickhogue1868 7 месяцев назад +1

      I do have hard water. I pretty much do what you are doing, well minus the measured water dropper tube. I just use my fingers, wettened and add water drops at a time (one to four). As to brush, it doesn't matter much what type boar, synthetic, horse, badger mix. With the hard water I have to load more and mix a little longer. But the end result is still the same. I mainly just face lather although I will use my mug, scuttle, bowl occasionally.@@Tobins_throwbacks

      @@derrickhogue1868 awesome! I never use the syringe during a normal shave only for videos, I eyeball the water. So are you on a Well? Or Municipal water system?

      Well water. I would like to get a water softener. That would save me from having to replace my water heater again. Sigh.@@Tobins_throwbacks

      My grandpa passed me Omnibus and K2e.
      He was tired of adding water.. His age wouldn't let him face lathering for 3 hours.

    Great tutorial Tobin! To me the reason that people have a hard time with this soap and some of the old school pucks is just experience. There's not a ton of super hard pucks or triple milled and usually people start with something that's relatively soft and most of their experiences started with stuff in a can. Both my grandma and grandpa had me whipping lather and they never had soft water and they just soaked it for a couple minutes with a little warm tap water. They never even soaked the brush. They didn't have beautician school when my grandma got out of high school so she went to barber school to learn how to cut hair and do shaves. You're spot on and if it didn't work out the first time, just keep at it. I'm looking forward to the brush series, I'm sure it's going to be informative. Take care!

    Have you ever tried Stirling's Sheep? Rod has hinted that he may discontinue it. It is unscented and made with mutton tallow/lanolin. It might be the most luxurious feel in the hobby. It lathers with no fussiness and it still very affordable.

    Great demonstration Tobin with a great technique👏 My MWF (& other triple mills) method is not too dissimilar to yours and personally never had much trouble producing lather from MWF and use mostly soft Synthetic brushes, yes I also use Boar knots and love them as well. Were you using the Tallow base or the new Palm oil based soap?👍🤠🤟

      @Tobins_throwbacks  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Lawrie, Mine is the v1. I want to try the new v3. Gareth at the shave Supply and Phil at Bullgoose are both telling the v3 is supposed to be the best. It just came out last year it still of course has lanolin.

      @@Tobins_throwbacksThanks for the info, I didn't know that the different versions of MWF were numbered, so I expect the latest V3 must be an updated version of their Palm oil base? Is it printed on the label somewhere?

    You really demonstrated it whipped to the full and ready to paint on - would you go against lathering it on your face? Got mine coming in dish and I'd consider taking the bowl step and working it on my face instead for all the reasons they go on about, exfoliating, moisturising the skin and softening and lifting the hair

    • @Tobins_throwbacks
      @Tobins_throwbacks  28 дней назад +1

      @LynchTheShills thank you! Absolutely, it does great with a face lather. I'd definitely recommend giving that a go. I only did it this way to help demonstrate how to lather it. Let me know how it goes 🙏 have a good one!
