Aaaiii ... you are so sweet! And now I must search out a copy of Emily Wilson's Iliad because I too have never been able to truly appreciate Homer. Thanks for a great video, and enjoy your travels. E x

Your obsession with the Iliad is making me want to read it.

Will be reading The Iliad this year for The Hardcore Literature Bookclub over the Summer, thanks for recommending this translation. Have a lovely break with family at the end of this year.

Your passion is shining through so much in this:,) love seeing such a bold exploration of intimidating literature.
Somewhat similarly: I’m reading the besieged city by lispector (my first) and trying to understand her voice/depth of the narrative. Next is a biiiig boy, the power broker by Robert Caro

Always nice to see a video of you. The Iliad sounds very intriguing, I never read it either. I'm currently reading New people by Danzy Senna. I wanted to read it two or three years ago from a rebecca eats books recommendation. Now Danzy Senna has a new book out, so i wanted to read the older one first. Have a safe trip!

This week, I'm reading Eve by Cat Bohannon. I'm halfway through it, and I really love it so far. I also picked up The Shape of Water by Guillermo Del Toro & Daniel Kraus. I love the movie, so I figured I'd give the novelization a shot. I've had Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey and The Iliad on my wish list for a long time and was planning on reading them sometime next year. For whatever reason, I tend to read greek mythology/history in the summertime. Helen of Troy by Bettany Hughes was one of my favorites that I read this summer.

I am reading Dante's The Divine Comedy and got too far in before learning more about the different translators, and wishing I had chosen a different one. It really makes a difference!! Especially for these narrative poems, I would prefer a poet to translate a poet. Hope you have safe travels.

That's too bad about the candle, its so cute. I always get votives in glass jars so I can reuse the jars afterwards, and I'm OCD when it comes to trimming the wicks down between burnings so that there's very little to no residual wax left over. That drives me nuts. lol... Great video idea - I always enjoy hearing your opinions about books, and good on you for reading outside your comfort zone. I'm currently reading two ginormous books: 11/22/63 by Stephen King (excellent so far) AND Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson, because the next installment comes out Dec. 6th, although I will probably read a tiny book after this, as my brain will be fried. lol. Have a great trip. Also? Your hair cut looks great, that stylist did a great cut for you, and I hope you like it now too.
