The intensity in his playing was just phenomenal, his bends and vibrato were as good as anyone’s…some of the notes he hits in this performance bring up goose bumps on my neck. So glad I saw him live.

Very true! I've seen the whole show, and Gary's gig was light years better than the rest. And the line up was crazy too, like David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, and Joe Walsh but Gary fucking killed it! 🙆♂️ He should've been the closing act; it's not even fair for the rest of the guys 😅😅
I saw him do that very thing with that very guitar at Bishopstock years ago, he played a blistering set using only his Strat....it was unmatchable and I suppose, robbed us of a Johnny Winter performance afterwards but Gary was easily enough on his own.

it's not a 50 note thing. Gary was able to give a single note emotion à la BB, and he did. It's about the power, the "got it" and not "play it", and in the history of the Guitar the other 2 guys can give me the same sensation are SRV and EVH, without concerning about what they played. You can listen to a guitar player and think "oh, this was bad/good/incredible", then you listen to guitarists (only 3, for me) and think "he's not playing it, he "got it" and simple let it rise from inside to us, by his guitar, and let it arrive to us".
I watched the whole concert from Gilmour to Hank Marvin. Moore blew them all away with this extraordinary performance, just compare the applause from the crowd after he finished compared to the other musicians on that particular night.
Some of the "Qualities" that make up the greatness of Gary Moore....He Played LOUD!, I mean Frank Zappa LOUD!!!, this is always welcome in a guitar player of his caliber He's "heavy handed" and he plays "noisy" WHEN HE WANTS TO (he'll never be accused of using canned or taped guitar work during live play) He had a greatness and an openness to his music and his playing...He kept his ego on the fretboard, where it should always be kept....What a Monster, I will always miss him.
Gary Moore is such a beast, this is brutal playing & amazing control. Very underrated guitarist/singer/musician. One of the best versions of this song. Gary slays the fuck out of this song, so much emotion and brief wah moment is so worth listening to again. RIP Legend

Every superlative that can be given to this performance has been given across all of these amazing comments. Surely the RIP comments are not needed though, as the man literally lives forever through the performances he left us, like this one. He absolutely annihilates and elevates a classic blues tune like nothing I have seen before. This performance and the mans talent and legacy is immortal in my opinion.
I always thought he was better than Stevie. His songs, vocals were head and shoulders better than Stevie and his playing was right there with him, if not better.
The thing with Gary was that he did realize how good he was but he was very humble about it and really only played because he loved music so much. This man was a legend and will remain a legend forever

He's "heavy handed" and he plays "noisy" WHEN HE WANTS TO (he'll never be accused of using canned or taped guitar work during live play) He had a greatness and an openness to his music and his playing...He kept his ego on the fretboard, where it should always be kept....What a Monster, I will always miss him.

Gary Moore is such a beast, this is brutal playing & amazing control. Very underrated guitarist/singer/musician. One of the best versions of this song. Gary slays the fuck out of this song, so much emotion and brief wah moment is so worth listening to again. RIP Legend

Every superlative that can be given to this performance has been given across all of these amazing comments. Surely the RIP comments are not needed though, as the man literally lives forever through the performances he left us, like this one. He absolutely annihilates and elevates a classic blues tune like nothing I have seen before. This performance and the mans talent and legacy is immortal in my opinion.

I was there - he destroyed everyone else that night. I ended up meeting him a couple of years later and said as much. Such a lovely man.
I've always felt that Gary was the greatest of his era. I don't think he even realised just how amazing he was.
I always thought he was better than Stevie. His songs, vocals were head and shoulders better than Stevie and his playing was right there with him, if not better.
I have seen many of the greats but this man had something beyond, a true and passionate rock guitar player.
The thing with Gary was that he did realize how good he was but he was very humble about it and really only played because he loved music so much. This man was a legend and will remain a legend forever
