  • Episode 2 of the GAP Trail ride takes us from the town of Mckeesport to West Newton. The heat & humidity was intense all day long, but the adrenaline of day 1 on the trail kept me going.
My stay for the night was the Bright Morning Bed & Breakfast. Wonderful accommodations and the breakfast was incredible. www.brightmorningbb.com/

It’s an experience of a lifetime. Have a great ride. If you have any questions please message me. Camping or b&b trip? I loved it so much I’ll be doing at least sections again this summer. Thanks so much for watching.

The cool looking building at the bottom of the ramp as you are entering McKeesport, is the old railroad roundhouse, where they performed maintenance on the locomotives.

Sorry you couldn't squeeze in Kennywood . I laughed in the first episode when you just got out of town, before you got to Baldwin , and sed I must have just gone past that amusement park and missed it. I've been up and down that trail several times a year, every year since it was open.I thought , You didn't miss it, You just got some more peddling to do.Thanks for the fresh ride !!

I really did think I missed it! It didn’t help that it was unbelievably hot that day either. I am so happy you enjoyed the episodes so far. Episode 3 is out now and I’m working on 4 & 5. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. It means a lot to me.

LMAO. I had thought about passing, but I knew it would be the perfect cinematic moment to match up with a song. Ok, truth is, I was exhausted by that point and was just trying to get to the B&B. Hey, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

IMO "Little" Boston is the real start of the GAP trail. This is where you start getting into what I like to call "upper Appalachia." These little towns are quaint and a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of The Burgh.

I agree. It was nice to go through “small town” America and meet and talk to people along the way. Thanks so much for watching.

This section through McKeesport sure looks to have nasty cracks at regular intervals, or wasn't it that bad?

It’s a pretty rough section of the trail. I think it’s a common problem with paved sections of trails due to the tree roots. It wasn’t horrible, just not as enjoyable as the rest of the trail. I prefer gravel/crushed limestone over anything else. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Thanks for watching.

Hey, what happened between the McKeesport Marina and the GAP in Boston? The noted area is of great confussion to many riders because it is poorly marked. Riding through the housing project area Mary St., Market St., left onto 13th then back on the trail. Then the McKeesport Versailles Loop to the Boston Bridge or the traditional 15th St. bridge through Dead Man’s Hollow. A video of the noted area woiuld have been very helpful to unfamiliar riders.

Well it is a very confusing area for sure. The answer is it was 95 degrees and my GoPro was not cooperating, so between dying batteries and the camera overheating, I lost very valuable footage. My apologies.

I’m wondering if you go through GLassport and Elisabeth?

The GAP comes close to those two towns, but not directly through them. The trail starts to follow along the Youghiogheny once you get to McKeesport. Thanks so much for watching!

I don't say " ON YOUR LEFT " because half the folks will look back and drift left thus cutting you off. Occasionally I'll use my built in virtual bell " DING DING " and I don't listen to any hurt'n music either when I'm riding , loose the music man , I want to fall asleep to the sound of tires meeting trail , other than that great video.
