@@bobbeld pointless comment
Of course you guys need to bring race into every video... the 2002 Oscars were based on 2 things, lobbyists and MERIT !!! If a movie sucks, it doesn't matter who stars in it . Stop pandering to a small minority of racists, you make Canadians look bad
@@jimbo9208 Then you obviously didn't watch it entirely. They discuss the 2002 Oscars and invented a reason to bring race into the mix. I'm black and gay, but that doesn't mean I should automatically win an award if I don't deserve it
@@Haywood-Jablomie but if you deserve it you should get nominated no matter if your are black or white
Number 1:
Marlon Brando: “Declines Oscar”
Will Smith: “Hold my beer.”
Chris rock: hold my face. 👏
Wow. This list aged very quickly!
+Adam Sherman My thoughts exactly!!!
Who's here after that Oscar scandal with Will Smith slapping Chris Rock in the face and made profanities at him?
Which isn't mentioned.
@@animaltvi9515 Like, this video needs now an update for that mess.
Me
I was here before that.
I am still mad about *Shakespeare In Love winning Best Picture* instead of *Saving Private Ryan.*
Same here. That was a disgrace that year. Saving Private Ryan was a far superior film better.
Even Harrison ford seemed “wha?” 🙄
Well the voters can't escape from that shit stain monster Harvey Weinstein and the way he bragged the voters for Shakespeare to win. If it wasn't for Weinstein, Saving Private Ryan would've easily win fair and square. Weinstein cheated
I am forever furious over this!
And the fact that Gwyneth Paltrow won Best Actress over Cate Blanchett
Well, this top ten didn’t last a week considering the slap seen round the world made these seem minor in comparison and controversy.
Ah yes, nobody can ever forget the infamous 2017 "Best Picture" scandal. Major Kudos to "La La Land" producer Jordon Horowitz for managing to diffuse the awkward situation to the best of his ability, and even inviting the "Moonlight" team to take to the stage and accept the award.
What is this guy talking about
Oh yeah, I was actually there live for that. What a mess lol but the right movie did actually win 😁
@@dantheman4291 pretty simple, Jordan Horowitz, the producer of La La Land directly announced Moonlight as Best Picture winner and yes he handled it awkwardly but was fair enough to give it to Moonlight
@Kai Hamzah I just can’t help myself sometimes 🤷🏻♂️
I was on Canada when this happend. I was rooting for La La Land.
2022 And we have a new winner at number 1 for most shocking moment
Still forever furious over the Saving Private Ryan/Shakespeare in Love drama. Harvey Weinstein Shame on you! Just because his film had more nominations doesn't mean that the movie was better. Sorry Saving Private Ryan should've won Best Picture in 1999. Weinstein's reasoning is just horseshit! In conclusion Saving Private Ryan was ROBBED of the Oscar. 😡😡😡
The fact that people still talk about Saving Private Ryan today and that Shakespeare In Love is pretty much forgotten says it all.
Agree with you.
And Fernanda Montenegro was robbed of the Best Actress Oscar that same year!
It's alright, Saving Private Ryan is saved in the national film registry. I think that's more prestigious than that Oscar
@@AgustinRodriguez-dd6mj Saving Private Ryan is pretty much forgotten as well. Most young people of today havent even heard of that movie
What about giving Roman Polanski a standing ovation?
Oh man that Moonlight Debacle was hilarious when I watched that live with my mom.
We need an oscar for best stunt performances
That's a good idea 💡
And for best ensemble
That would only make stunt people put themselves in more danger
There is a separate event dedicated to this, the Taurus World Stunt Awards.
I like the idea of having an Academy award dedicated to stunts but as a matter of fact there are too much categories which would be deserving of an award (the best driving stunt, the best stunt fight choreography or the best explosion stunt....)
I would've also included The Color Purple being snubbed in every single category
Yeah the movie should had won some Oscars
Watchmojo: Makes this list.
Will Smith: Hold my beer.
This needs to be updated!
Add this to the list of top ten times WM released a video too soon.
Looks like you got one more for the list.
I remember the scandal about that Mad Max Fury Road costume designer that came on the stage accepting the Best Costume Design award wearing average clothes and a leather jacket with Immortan Joe's insigna on the back instead of some fancy dress.
And she was clearly upset by this, because she didn't wanted to wear anything fancy, she wanted to be herself.
Check out “Cher’s Oscar outfits.”
I don't find anything wrong with that at all.
How is that a scandal?
@@FrakkinToasterLuvva because they bashed her for being ugly in that outfit and this brought a bad light on the Academy
One of the most disturbing things about 2021 Oscars related to Chadwick Boseman losing and that weird ending which I will get to after the disturbing moments related to Chad. Is that on the red carpet one of the reporters who had spent the day talking to members of the academy who vote for the winners the reporter stated during the red carpet that many voters said to him that “Chadwick’s gonna win but i’m voting for Anthony Hopkins” the reporter was told that by many of the Academy Voters! Which lead him to predict that Chadwick could lose the Oscar to Anthony. Which is exactly what happened!
The abrupt ending was due to Joaquin Phoenix going off script. Best actor and best actress segments that year were written to have had the presenter saying specific things about each of the nominees. This took longer then usual then those segments in the past. But Phoenix didn’t want to do that! He mentioned they wanted him to go out there and say something about each and every nominee in that category but he felt it could have been something more generalized! This defiant break from the script meant that the extra added time provided to this new format of speaking about each nominee was drastically shorter. It threw off the timing as well as all the timing provide for the acceptance speech.
So when you take all the time given for the new format disrupted by Joaquin Phoenix’s refusal to follow the script throw in the time set aside for the acceptance speech which Hopkins was not there to give and you have 15-20 minutes you the producer set aside that was done in 2 mins. And thats why the ending was weird they basically finished really early because A. Joaquin Phoenix going off script meant his part was shorter then intended and B. Hopkins not being there meant the time allotted for the Acceptance speech went unused. Leaving them with time but no show left to fill that time.
Even after Halle Berry won her award it still has been what.. 20 years since a black woman has won that category. She said the door was opened but it seems like a heavy door to keep open 😐
Would you prefer someone wins, who isn't worthy, just to even things up? I'm not aware of the stats, but which black women should have won, or been nominated?
Sadly Hallie Berry is the only black woman who has ever won a best actress Oscar! Last year Andra Day won the Golden Globe for The United States Vs. Billie Holiday and about 80% of the time the same actor goes on to win the Oscar. But NO!!!! NO!!!! It went to Frances Mcdormand who’s cheap ass expectance speech heavily implied that she isn’t big on awards that she just likes working “so yeah thanks.” 🤬 Andra Day was all set to break that streak since Halle’s win! Frances is great don’t get me wrong but by being so caviler about what the Oscars mean to her or don’t mean to her she stepped on her fellow nominees! Andre Day deserved to be the one to break the whites only streak dead to rights! Fantastic movie and performance and her loss was a disgrace to the Academy Awards who want you to know that they are not a “White people only club”. Aside from the slap this year was better but last year with Andra & Chadwick Boseman both loosing the black winners felt like the Oscars were merely filling a quota. **deep breath** sorry for the rant.
@@castleanthrax1833 are you implying that black women that have performed well don't deserve it? Your question comes off condescending as fuck
@@GodbodyRoku I wasn't implying anything. Maybe you'll get an Oscar for acting like a "human being". ✌️
@@castleanthrax1833 You deserve an Oscar for acting condescending 🙂
The Moonlight/La-La Land debacle was hardly a scandal. It's not like Warren Beatty intentionally read the wrong name.
They should have mentioned the fact that William Randolph Herst leaned on the Academy to not give the Best Picture Award to Citizen Kane.
Citizen Kane is overrrated.
@@bailysbeads2057 No as much as La La Land and Moonlight. Arrival should have won that year!
I don't understand why would they blame poor Warren at that time. The man just read the envelope along with Faye and he looked confused at the time as he noticed there was a mistake. The accountant was the one who deserved to blame because he was too busy tweeting every winners at that time.
He had the wrong envelope and that’s whoever is in charge of the envelopes for the winners fault. He was accidentally given the back up envelope for Best Actress instead of Best Picture.
And I agree that Citizen Kane should have won Best Picture at the 1942 Academy Awards.
He didn’t read the name, Faye Runaway did.
I still remember when the Suicide Squad beat Star Trek Beyond for best makeup
Luckily, if it was the best part of a movie, so what? Just like the Best Original Song winner of 1978 was for "Last Dance" from the movie Thank God It's Friday, the classic movie that the critics hated.
The movie (suicide squad) was beyond salvation, get an Oscar for makeup, welll
@@augustoortiz1254 it won for Best Makeup, that's fine. Made it worse if it won Best Picture lol
Suicide Squad was a worse movie, but it also had Harley Quinn- which due to Margot Robbie & the makeup/costume department is now instantly recognizable. 90% of america couldn’t name a character from Star Trek beyond, but EVERYONE knows Harley Quinn. Every girl was Harley Quinn for Halloween tbat yyear. While it wasn’t a good movie, it had a massive cultural impact that year
This list will never age well
Lol..... "it's not reflecting that beauty!". That aged like fine milk!
On the subject of Oscar Winners, maybe you guys should do two Top 20 lists on Best Picture winners ranked: Worst and Best respectively.
@watchmojo do it
UP
Do it watch mojo
Do it @watchmojo or we gonn cancel yall
"It's not reflecting that beauty!" - Will Smith
Yeah and you made it worse...
Well I have a feeling Will Smith and Chris Rock will be in the next list!
This aged well.
Seeing Clips of Will had me on the edge of my seat until I realized this was uploaded before
+brendon persad Same here. I kid you not.
Now number 1 will be Will Smith attacking Chris Rock
The Oscars will always be scandalous no matter what.
The Oscars has been a pandering mess for the last 15 years.
Sadly, yes
Totally amazing video watch mojo of conservative of the Oscar’s awards, fantastic job.
This list needs to be updated...😂
The AMPAS should do some serious reforms right now.
2 days too early lol,
we got the new #1 now
This was outdated within 72 hours of being posted lol
Time to update the list 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It almost seems the photo op session (on the red carpet) prior to and the ones afterwards (at the Oscar parties) are more popular than the Oscars ceremony itself, maybe more so given how questionable the awards are...or have been for quite awhile.
I bet you are sorry you didn't wait one day to make this list.
Needs updating.
Who's here after the whole Will Smith, Chris Rock thing?
I am.
I didn’t watch the 94th Academy Awards but hearing that, I’m like “OMG I can’t believe he did that”
It’s like Oscar slapped the s*** out of Marty
Will Smith voiced Oscar in SharkTale
Chris Rock voiced Marty in Madagascar
+WandaVision I am.
Trey and Matt are legends
Do the Golden Raspberry Awards list please!
they have
This aged like bad milk.
still pretty pissed about the saving private ryan snub
Blame Harvey Weinstein for that, he did the Oscar voters extremely dirty
I bet Watchmojo wished they'd waited until after the 2022 ceremony to publish this list.
Not the Oscars, but I think the people at Pixar spread a rumor that DreamWorks cheated at the Annies because ASIFA gave the award for Best Animated Feature to Kung Fu Panda instead of WALL•E.
walle is 100% better
@@jimbo9208 in _some_ ways, it is.
@@annafowdy in all ways it is
@@TheRealMallard eh, I found Kung Fu Panda more exciting. Though I do appreciate WALL-E and its themes of environmentalism.
@@annafowdy it is hard to compare the two since they are completely different, but I agree Kung fu panda is a more fun movie
Looking forward to Sunday!….wait, am I really though? 😎
No one complains about a lack of hispanics, natives or asians in hollywood, just lack of blacks.
Do you remember when Will Smith hit Chris Rock
When WatchMojo do another top 10, Will Smith slapping Chris Rock must be top spot..
Inflation through the roof and you all are worried about Oscars. Y'all ain't woke as you claim to be
and what do you mean
Just shove it into CRYPTO you will be wealthy in the long run
Perfect you buy when the market is low to get profit when it rises
I wanted to trade Crypto but got confused by the fluctuations in price
@@austinpeter6116 Get at it with Hamzah Ali
meanwhile: Will Smith & Chris Rock
now it all makes sense why Shakespeare in Love won over Saving Private Ryan and thanks to that win, I took to a custom of covering my ears before Best Picture is read. sadly, that was retired the night of Envelope-gate. and just for the record, I was all "Come on, Warren, don't tease" when I read Faye's lips with La La Land the winner leaving my hands to turn to clap politely...all the while I was dying inside for Moonlight. too busy to see what was going on, I was about to reply to my cousin's "La La Boo" remark when a voice said, "We lost, by the way." and of course, everyone knows the rest of the story.
WatchMojo: The Academy shouldn't try to predict things like Saving Private Ryan or Chadwick Boseman winning and plan events around that.
Also WatchMojo: Plans a video about Oscar scandals early because they couldn't predict the Will Smith punch.

Can you do top memorable Oscar moments?
Will Smith is Hold my beer
Can you do top iconic Oscars moments.?
God, Matt and Trey controversy was by far my favorite “scandal” 🤣 Also the fact they were both legit tripping on acid at the time. Such fuckin legends ❤️ I kinda wish they wore those dresses on the 25th anniversary concert.
Marlon Brando would roll in his grave if he saw what's become of the US...
Should wait. This next one should rank up a lot.
The only thing I was upset that Denzel Washington should had won Best Leading Actor in Fences.
Against Casey Affleck in Manchester By The Sea? I don't think so
Mine is Sandra Bullock winning in "The Blind Side" (where she's just pretty much herself, only blonde) over Gabourey Sidibe in "Precious" (talk about disappearing into a role!).
Saving Private Ryan kinda was in the first 15 minutes, that was the whole point, it was depicting D-Day.
The movie starts strong and then gives you a breather before the main "find the man" plot gets underway. Love the twist that when they find him he refuses to leave, forcing them to fight the final battle with him at his side.
Please do a similar list but for the MTV VMA'S
We all know what's gonna be number one and that guy should've really came up to the Oscar stage and fix the Shakespeare In Love and Crash undeserving Best Picture win 😂😂
When Taylor won over Beyonce!😤
WELL THAT SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!
Man, y’all are going have to redo this list after what happened at the 2022 Oscars. THAT WAS DISTURBING AND DISGRACEFUL. Thanks for nothing, Will Smith!!!
Well, time for the updated list with Will Smith hitting Chris Rock
I figured something must have been up considering all we got were stills in the video
Well, this whole list just got superseded three days ago...
Only if video came out a couple of days later 😂😂😂
I don’t know how many times that’s happened in these lists but you almost had me there. I’m like what, that’s number one? You have to be pulling my leg.
And last night we got a new scandal 🤣
480: Two infamous things, Slap Heard Round The World and the mistake between La La Land and Moonlight
That Alice in Chains shirt is incredible lol
We’ll this list is about to change
2 days old and this Video didnt aged well. Will said again I am legend.
Art Carney winning Best Actor over Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson.
“Sacheen Littlefeather” was an actress named Maria Cruz.
Still have not gotten over no non to Ghostbusters: Afterlife Ghost Farmer... Probably wouldn't have beating Spiderman or Dune but it would have been nice with such a good CGI ghost..
In fairness, Saving Private Ryan WAS only an Oscar movie for 15 minutes.
#1 WILL SMITH SLAPS CHRIS ROCK 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's a Raw Blow!
We need a top 10 Oscar slap. 🤣😭😂
360: I had no idea that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in front of everyone. Didn’t see that coming but man, wow
Oscars are a waste time and am a proud “Never Watched” member.
359: I’ll never forget the La La Land and Moonlight moment
i think the Oscars' voters must do like all of us do before we go watch a new movie, and wait for the first batch of reviews to be published. I know for a fact Oscar voters get advanced copies of new releases. Critics work for newspapers and getting any highly rated critic to like your film is important cuz they can influence public opinion on the film. I'm not saying critics get everything right, but for Oscar voters to understand what their voting for, they must first find out if the film is worth nominating in the first place.
Number 1 kinda surprised me.
Roger Moore actually took marlon Brandos Oscar home but they took it away from him
Yeah…. This one needs a speedy update :D
I wonder what the #1 of the next installment of this title is gonna be 🤔🤔🤔
This list was two days too early.
Well, that’s interesting. Elizabeth Taylor winning an award in a movie she hates. There’s something I’ve never seen before.
For the list of actors and actresses hating the movies they were in, I honestly didn’t see this coming.
Man, announcing the wrong winner ruined the whole ceremony both for La La Land and Moonlight.
In 2001 there was a great movie that should've been in the running for best picture.
I can honestly tell you that 21 years ago I didnt cry at a movie for nothing. My wife even said at the time that my heart must be frozen or something. But we went over to my dads and he said, son I have movie that I want you to watch and when it's done I want to know how you feel. I looked at my wife and asked if we had time and she said yeah.
Well I watched the movie and I was so torn between tears and angry, I really didnt know which emotion was stronger and yes I would cry at that the end of this movie.
Gladiator would win best picture in 2001 and Pay it forward wasn't nominated. Such a great movie and you couldn't help but be involved with the characters.
I…I think you made this video a couple days too early.
Lol you gotta redo this list now
Add Will Smith to the next list lol.
Bruh, did Watchmojo just predicted something would happen? Talk about timing xD
