I love the 509 series of pistols i own the tactical version. Absolutely love the 24 round magazines. I actually kinda like the stock trigger its much better than the ones on the m&p pistols imo. That being said i may still change it to the apex trigger just because i love tinkering with stuff. The optic mounting system is the best on the market. I love that i dont need to use loctite to mount my rmr. Its just an overall fantastic gun to shoot
Yeah bro got 509T Do yourself a favor don’t think about it just buy the apex trigger hands-down totallyMakes a difference. Also if you’re going to install it yourself it’s not difficult if you have that black he was talking about.
Best 509 review on RUclips bar none. Hits all the points from aprehensiveness on the striker issue, the size and feature comparisons, and the overall opinions. Great job.
I own a FNS-9c went looking for another one, found out the FN-509 took it’s place so I got the mid size. You’re right about the trigger but I believe it will smooth out after a while. The gun to me is absolutely Awesome. I love it. Great video also.
Great video! I don’t own optic ready FN 509 MRD, but I do own the FN 509 Standard and FN 509 Midsize with the Apex Flat Triggers, Firing pins and extractors. With aftermarket night sights and rail tactical lights. Some day I’ll join the optical fan wagon, until then I’ll enjoy the FN 509 none optic ready for now. Thanks for the informative video I really enjoy them.
I love the FN509 platform so much I end up with the FN509T, 509, Midsize, MRD and own total (15) 15rd mags, (10) 17rd mags & (4) 24rd mags. I had Danger Close Armament customize my FN509T & Midsize and they are FN awesome. Can’t wait to get the compact. Good review
@@briangreen550 lol, it’s not about swimming. What about have rain, transversing through swap water, pound whatever. Just a thought, it is a great looking pistol and great features
just bought mine because of this comprehensive review. It is everything I wanted in a carry gun. Oh, I also have the Apex trigger and Mcarbo springs coming in. Thank for the info!
I agree about the steel sights. I changed my blackout sights to the factory night sights, as it helps me pick up the dot. The mag release on the 509 Midsize and the 509 Compact are my favorites of all my polymer guns. As far as triggers, I like the factory ones and have found that after about 1000 rounds they really smooth out. I have mounted RMRs on both of them and also the Tactical.
I just bought this gun a couple months ago and had a gunsmith change my trigger! It is a really nice gun! It’s my bedside gun which I keep a 17 round mag in it. As far as expensive I only paid $528 for mine shipped
just added the MCarbo kit an it was the best 20$ you can spend. i was thinking of putting in a single side mag release. Thanks for the great video 1776.
I agree with you to a point. However, if you choose to mount an optic, you will need to spend the coin to get “true” co-witness sights. The standard sights will work to an extent but they’re still a fraction short. I will add that it has one of, if not the best, OEM optics mounting platforms. Also, if you’re lucky, you will purchase the model that comes with the gen 2 FN striker that addresses the failure issues. Aside from the parts replacements, I trust the firearm. So much so that I replaced my Glock 19 gen 5 MOS with it. For me, I just felt that it is better firearm. Especially after I took a dremel to the ambi mag release. Now it’s perfect.
I like what you've done with your 509, I have been a fan since the first one I tried. I have the whole lineup and think these are HIGHLY underrated. I might have to try out one of those Apex triggers. I have one installed on my G19 MOS super Gucci gun I traded for. It is a much better trigger than the stock one. If you like that pistol you're going to love the subby model. I wish you lived closer, then you could come over and blast any time. I haven't been able to shoot for months, and now my left arm is out of commission for 6 wks. Have a great weekend brother!
Gear Barrel I have the 509 midsize and it’s one of the best striker fire handguns out the box I’ve shot and for $550 I thought that was a good price. Was this the model the guys you know got rid of, and if so what was there complaint with the handgun?
I am waiting for one of these now, have always loved the 509 but wanted the optic capable one, so now I am waiting for it. I had a 508T which was on my Glock MOS, but a couple of weeks ago it failed, sent it back to Holosun we will see what happens with that.
I dont have a midsize i have a tactical instead but i think the midsize is better. However i think reliability has been spotty. My 509s are doing good however. Umm about the beretta... its not berettas job to give aftermaket support to the gun the gun is popular and people and companies invest to modify or improve the gun.

@@RepentorPerish77 Yes i'll keep my polymer pistols but my real joy is in the steel. If you get a chance try/buy a CZ Shadow 2 it's well worth the $1100 price tag and as good as any higher priced custom pistols right out of the box, a great value.
I used the Apex block for pushing that pin and still managed to crack the frame. FN does NOT want the end user to modify the gun. Loved the gun until that point. Will not be buying FN again
I have the same gun, same optic and same trigger. Even with the block it's a pain in the ass to install that Apex trigger, but worth it. Just getting into USPSA and plan on using it in the Carry Optic division. Finding extra mags was no problem, unlike my Walther PDP. Good luck with that. Someone please explain to me why Walther would develop a new design that's popular as hell and not manufacture enough magazines?
I hope that you’ll get the new 509 compact. So you can do a comparison between the 509 compact and the CZ P10S (optics ready) and the M&P 2.0 Subcompact.
Is there enough room to switch out the rear sight to a low profile non suppressor ready sight ?? And still slap on a glass optic when ready? Or can the optic only be ran with the high profile sights? This question needs answering
