    I would use doublesided extreme strong sticky tape to hold the coil in place. A little distance between each winding would increase the Q-factor.

      When I was a kid, we tried to wind 2 wires together, then you would remove the "spacer" wire. It works but the coil is hard to wind, has to be much longer, it is harder to tune, and no matter how good the glue was, it would fail somewhere.

    Use sketch tape to hold copper

    Think how cool it would be to bend a handle on the right hand end of that threaded rod so you could get a little more torque make things even easier. The rod would have to be longer though.

      I cut it out of my winding jig video, but I made a crank on my 3d printer and tried it. Turns out I like having both hands on the coil. What would help my hands is something that would straighten the wire as I laid it down.

    Maybe strips of double sided tape run lengthwise along the tube would be less messy and easier to work with.

      No doubt you are right. I don't know the lifespan of the tape, but glue is good for about 50 years. It may be just me, but I always imagine a parent and child building one together, something they would want to keep. Maybe I'm over thinking and over building them.

    What exactly is that blue pipe schedule 30 pvc drain pipe? where did you find it what store? Awsome work.

      @tsbrownie  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you. Yes, the pipe is standard water pipe from the hardware store. Nothing special. I would not use the black or yellow PVC pipes as I'm not sure if the pigments would affect the electromagnetic field.

    18g wire here?

    • @tsbrownie
      @tsbrownie  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm using 19 awg, or 0.91mm. Here's a video on Crystal Radio Coil Sizing: ruclips.net/video/ejHk5tFeKHk/видео.html
      that includes wire/core sizing.

    What kind of glue are you using?

    • @tsbrownie
      @tsbrownie  6 месяцев назад +1

      Just a general white, water-soluble glue. It's too messy to use anything else.

      @@tsbrownieThank you Mr. Brownie! Like wood glue? By the way, I am thoroughly enjoying the wonderful canon of work you have put up. Amazing. I read a book about Marconi called “Thunderstruck” which got me started. So I built a “coherer” with my grandson. Now I am interested in building your crystal set which I love. Be well!

      @@pauljebb6921 Actually the channel is named after my dog, Brownie. ;) Yes, the glue is used for wood, paper, etc. The one I used is a plastic based one, not the old horse glue. Glad you like the videos. Let me know if you have questions.

      Actually, I do have a question unrelated to the glue. I have purchased 20 AWG wire instead of the 19 you are using in your winding. How will that affect the number of turns in the antenna tuner and the main tuner assuming a 2” core diameter.? Thanks for your help.

      @@pauljebb6921 You can use online calculators to check me (www.circuits.dk/calculator_single_layer_aircore.htm) (www.circuits.dk/calculator_multi_layer_aircore.htm) but I think that you need to add 2 additional turns from the 160 I used.
