As someone who personally doesn't like the track, I get really tired of hearing people make such a big deal out of it. I'm not sure these people realize complaining about WAP isn't gonna change anyone's mind on it. It just makes them look like bafoons and the track ends up with even more longevity.
Yea, it’s a really dumb idiotic song. If you don’t talk about it, it would eventually go away.
I dont get it either. The song is horrible and bad but there are other bad songs out there. I dont get why this one is so much worse. It is just a bad song. The end
I do agree, but staying so neutral (collectively, as listeners) doesn't really help the situation with how dumb the mainstream pop/rap scene is getting, and how easily these people make money from such tracks. Yes even rock artists have made sexually-themed music, but WAP (and a lot of rap, for a long time, for that matter) is just.. blatant, and not creative (which is the opposite of what music is kind of supposed to be).

they're so triggered by the dr. seuss books but have no idea that the seuss estate decided to discontinue the books themselves. no one made them do it. it's just the literary equivalent of deleting an old tweet you decide you don't stand by anymore.
Nah this ain't it. Dr. Seuss died in '91 and his wife died in 2018 and they never had kids. That means the estate is run by a company with a board of directors and every decision it makes is financially motivated. While it clearly has the legal right to do so, acting like Seuss or his immediate family made the decision upon personal reflection is pure BS. Regardless of how you feel about it, his work is being censored by others who don't know what he would have wanted and I'm not behind that.
Let’s all remember the Dr. Seuss company pulled the books themselves after an internal review. And none of the books were really that popular.
I grew up pretty sheltered, and Skillet was the first hard rock band I ever heard. I still have a soft spot in my heart for them, but they’re like an embarrassing relative who can’t stop accidentally being insensitive.

Calm down lad... I mean Skillet suck, but this really isn't that bad. People are getting more worked up at this than he was over the song.
Has Cooper ever condemned death and black metal? Seems more offended by women
Dude comprares a child content restriction to an adult entertainment event.
The comparison is so dishonest.
I personally am not someone that likes songs that go into full sexual territory but not going to say it’s ruining the world. Cause it’s always been there
As a Christian myself, I think Christians spend wayyyy too much time being “morality police” and fear mongers than actually living out what Jesus told us to do in the Bible.
Why would christians expect a secular culture to adhere to a Christian culture? There’s a lady in my church that was throwing a fit once because I watched the Pixar film “Soul” with my son. Why would I expect a secular film production studio to teach Christian ideologies when it is a SECULAR FILM STUDIO.
Christians have totally lost the idea behind just loving your neighbor and instead live their lives offended with everything that happens in the world, and they expect people to like Jesus too, when all it seems is that Jesus gets offended with everything.
I agree with you, Cooper should just go back to making shitty Christian rock. That’s the only thing he’s good at.

I'm not understanding the outrage over WAP (well, it's racism and misogyny, but I digress). Pop music is overly sexual? Yeah, where the fuck have you been for the past few decades?
What’s funny to me is all these conservatives and religious folk are so worried about music like this “destroying western/Christian/white civilization/culture”, which says to me that they don’t think western/Christian/white civilization/culture is very resilient if cardi B can take it down with a single fiya track or just a few forbidden inches of skin showing.
If the whole thing crumbles that easily then it’s legit probably time to tear it down and rebuild anyway, personally I’d like to have a society/culture that can stand a few cardi B tracks before it implodes

6:48 I like how it’s the popular consensus that Megan’s part in the track is the one across-the-board good thing about it.
I used to be into Skillet up until around the mid-2000s, then I realized I had hit a turning point where I was listening to their albums to make fun of them more than because I actually enjoyed them. In 2019, after Cooper made some disparaging homophobic remarks about his fellow Christian musician Trey Pearson who had come out as gay, I found that I couldn't even stomach the "point-and-laugh" listens any more. Everything about Skillet these days is basically anti-intellectualism 101: Don't think, just brute force your way through life with a sense of entitlement because God is on your side and all opposition is apparently of the Devil. It's basically the Christian rock version of Jock Jams.
Oh shit; I never heard about that. What did he say? I couldn’t find it anywhere.
@@18FrozenAngels Looks like it was in a since-deleted Facebook post. But he’s been rather consistently anti-woke and anti-liberal with his comments over the last few years, so the fact that he’d be opposed to the notion that you can be gay and Christian at the same time is very on-brand for him. I’m sure it’s probably there somewhere in one of his podcasts or social media rants, but I don’t have a very strong stomach for digging through that sort of stuff.
I'll give him this, Skillet is a great name for a band if you never want anyone to take you seriously ever
i just think of the cooking tool, then i think of frying the band members faces in a pan and laugh
The band is called Skillet because it represents a mixture of different styles in its music, according to the analogy of a frying pan (a skillet), in which a mixture of different ingredients are usually cooked on it. If you don't treat a musical band seriously just because of its name, I'm afraid the problem is with you, not with the band. What would you say, for example, about bands like Puddle of Mudd, Imagine Dragons, Breaking Benjamin and so forth? Is their music bad just because of their names?
Coop really hitting all the conservative memes on this one, I'm just disappointed he didn't bring up Mr Potato Head
How to make awful statements 101:
"Hitler bla bla bla (*insert topic name*) bla bla bla"
unfortunately, I have seen skillet twice. theyre the musical equivalent of monster energy drinks and spencer’s at the mall. christian music is just never good objectively
Some Christian bands I still enjoy as a nonreligious person:
Oh, Sleeper (first album especially, look up the song "Vices Like Vipers")
Project 86 (fourth and fifth albums are my favorite, "Safe Haven", "Breakdown in 3/4", "Subject to Change", "From December"...)
August Burns Red (haven't kept up with all their music but Constellations was a dope album)
Blindside (I only have the About a Burning Fire and Great Depression albums but they're both great)
Twothirtyeight (I think they only ever released one album, You Should Be Living, but it's a good one)
Most of the time those bands aren't overly preachy, or if they do ever get that way they at least tend to approach things in a more poetic or musically interesting way than Skillet ever did. Speaking as someone who grew up with Skillet's music as a gateway into harder rock music, saw them live twice as well, and then fell off hard on both their music and religion in general over 10 years ago. Anyway hope I could point you towards some good jams!
Underoath, Mae and Devil Wears Preda are pretty good too
Only good Christian metal is Trouble.
Why would someone name their band after a frying pan.
