- Heehee new lore time :) This one was a lot of fun to work on, and since I decided to do minimal details, it didn't take me too long! I've wanted an excuse to have Birchspeckle show up in an actual story video so I'm glad she's here now :)

Tiny bit of backstory :)
Skipping a bit ahead in the story from the events of The Omen, Mudpaw has been officially apprenticed under Owlpounce for a few weeks at this point. After being introduced to the clan's enigmatic second healer, Birchspeckle, he learns that her mysterious powers and connection to the dead affords her knowledge beyond any other cat's imagination.
He decides to go to her secluded den in hopes of getting some insight from her regarding his origins. He knows his clanmates treat him differently for a reason, and he wants to know the truth.
When he dares to ask her what she knows, Birchspeckle reveals that she not only knows where he came from, but she also knows the secret he has desperately been trying to hide: that he was responsible for his previous mentor's death. She reassures him that she has not told anyone else, and that she will keep his secret for now, but will be keeping an eye on him. Shaken by the knowledge of his origin and his secret being known, Mudpaw leaves Birchspeckle's den with a heavy and anxious heart.

Im glad birchspeckle didnt rat him out to the clan because she knew of mudpaw's reasons behind his murder, but still has him know that she's got an eye on him if he ever decides to not stop at his mentor and goes after the rest of their clanmates

birchspeckle so girlblogger for this. mudpaw just wanted to know about his parents and she gives him that info but then pops a cap in his ass with "i know you committed a murder" like absolutely terrifying behavior. wouldn't be surprised if she was the man behind the slaughter. i love her

Birchspeckle looks SO ominous in this, and yet she gives off the feeling that she feels sympathy for Mudpaw. I mean, she’s an outcast from the clan too, so surely she feels sorry for him even if she doesn’t know exactly why he killed his mentor? (I’m not completely sure if she also saw how Wren treated him).
Oh I love Mudpaw's ever advancing story! This needs to be a comic or show or something, truly

I am in love with this, it might be my favorite Mudpaw animatic yet! The story being told in it was super clear and easy to follow, not to mention how beautiful the art is! I'm glad that Birchspeckle is seemingly understanding of why Mudpaw did what he did, and I hope she can try to help guide him along the right path.
youtube won't let me edit this, but after a second watch I wanted to say that I love the display of Birchspeckle's powers, it just all looks so cool!! I was curious as to whether the story or the song used for this came first, since they match really well?
@@lucid2957 aaa thanks!! to answer your question, a little bit of both? All of the story beats/lore details revealed in this were already planned, but the specific idea of birchspeckle revealing that she knows this info to mudpaw so directly was spawned by hearing the audio haha
I wonder if Birch'Speckle can feel overwhelmed or sometimes bad because she knows so much about other cats. Maybe that's why she closed herself off and why she lives outside the clan, but she is still willing to tell people her knowledge but not how she feels about it. I love birchspeckle❤
I'm so glad I randomly stumbled across Mudpaw's story through "The Garden"-PMV. I'm genuinely so invested in this little guy and his story and it makes my day every time I see a new video on him has been uploaded. This one is so great and I hope there'll be more videos on him in the future :)

Fr though I am so glad she’s not victim blaming him!!! If this were canon warriors I’m sure she would’ve blindly told on him the moment she saw what he did, but the fact she’s not and is taking time to understand his side of the story is such good character writing and I want to EAT it. Finally some good f-ing food, we absolutely stan Basedspeckle my god

Does anyone just find themselves rewatching the part from "I see a song of past romance . . ." to the end of her song, I love it, it's such amazing animations, amazing Riley!
Man, Mudpaw you heartbroken bean💖.... His expressions just give off just how scared this poor boy is.... And you express perfectly through Birchspeckle’s expressions exactly why she chooses to keep the truth between her and Mudpaw, she knows all of it and absolutely understands. It just does not take away from how horrible a situation it is. She thinks it's sad it got to this point AND that murder is wrong... But she saw that Mudpaw had feared for his life in that moment when he succeeded in the reckless attempt.
Ah, the sweet magic of watching a heartfelt and soulful small-budget animatic from RUclips, featuring a story more emotion than most modern-day blockbusters *cough* antman quantumania *cough* I’ve been following this story for a while and I love the memes that come with it, excited to see more. Love it
The way the eyes have like some smoke or something makes it look like they’re maybe outraged or just angry. Amazing animatic!

There is no word in the English dictionary that describes the amount of perfection in this animatic, The expressions, movement, storytelling, everything! What’s even more funny is that I was planning to do an animatic with this same audio, so seeing this video was a huge surprise. Anyway, amazing job as always!

also at 0:37 the two cats kinda look like possum and sweetpea (sweetpea cuz kittypet and maybe possum cuz of the ears, maybe possum and sweetpea were mates and had mudpaw, then one day sweetpea's twoleg nest got set on fire and she had to take mudpaw to possum but died of smth? maybe smoke inhalation or the cold/hypothermia because you can see snow, or maybe sweetpea didnt die but got seperated from possum)
(also maybe mudpaw's clanmates treat him different because his mother is a kittypet (sweetpea) and his father is an ex-clanmate (possum)?)

yep it was possum and sweetpea, dunno abt the second paragraph but it could still be possible, possum (rogue/ex clanmate) gives mudkit to wrentail, and maybe something happened with possum and wren that made wren hate possum and treat mudpaw badly, but i feel like the origin thing is more possible

I’ve listened to this too many times, the music, animation, and overall feel of the video is amazing.
This was so satisfying to watch! Not just the plot but it might be one of my favorite of the series so far. So it turns out I was partly right? Birch's expression of.. guilt? Regret? Awkwardness? Reluctance? before the flashbacks begin is also a nice touch.
Also okay so we see both Mudpaw and the shadow of another cat (probably birchspeckle) watching Wrentail fall to his death; we *could* see this as both Mudpaw and Birchspeckle in the present watching the flashback, or is it a subtle hint that she was actually there in the shadows?
Crying. This is amazing. I love the flashback scenes - they always have such a big impact and you perfected everything so beautifully with the song ❤Thank you for always taking your time and having such true passion / dedicated care for these characters

On a more serious note...looks like Mudpaw is the son of Possum and Sweetpea. Maybe the clan wasn't cruel enough to toss baby Mudpaw out into the snow, but kicked Possum out for his disloyalty? Interested to see.
@@ninereeds1810 In the meet micaclan video it says possum is an ex-micaclan warrior, so maybe he couldve been exiled for being mates with sweetpea

My prediction is that Mudpaw was a half-clan cat after a forbidden romance took place between a kittypet and a clan cat. The kittypet parent stole Mudkit away from the clan cat parent in order to protect Mudkit from the forest. The clan cat finds out and since the clan cat has fighting experience, they win Mudkit back and run into the forest with them. Mudkit grew up unaware of his past because his clan cat parent felt betrayed, this would also explain why other cats treat him weirdly because they don't know where Mudkit came from or why he was alone in the woods (I'm asuming that's what the clan cat parent would say as a lie to hide the fact that they had a forbidden romance). Either way I can't wait for the amv/pmv/animatic!

Bro, this is amazing. I love how Birchspeckle knows about it all, but she doesnt wants to tell the clanmembers that Mudpaw killed his mentor, maybe believing that he can do better and, obviously, knowing his reasons. She seems so mysterious, and i liked that. But im still wondering, how did she got this power of being able to see the other cat's pasts? This may be a part of a future lore PMV/AMV, maybe? 👀
