Help me understand.....If the outside knob can be taken off with an Allen wrench, and once the outside knob is off, the cylinder clip can be removed with a screwdriver, and when the cylinder is out I can see the mechanism (2:04 in video) to unlock the lockset, then all I need to do to get in a house with this lockset is an allen wrench, a flat blade screwdriver, and a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Can anyone explain what I might be missing?
I wrote to Baldwin, and they answered:
The only way you can access the exterior set screw is when the door is unlocked. When the door is in the locked position the hole to access the set screw is closed. This was designed as a security feature.

I have the Baldwin "DEC.TAR.150" lever from the "Reserve Collections". It looks absolutely identical to the far, far more costly "Bethpage" lever from the "Estate Collections"... so I figured, why spend twice as much, right? Well, now I see why. These "Estate" level (and apparently from this video, also the "Prestige" level) of door levers use these funky miniature set screws to hold the lever onto the door. This results in a lever that is very wobbly and has a huge amount of loose play in it, no matter how much you tighten the almost microscopic set screw that holds it into the door. Indeed, if you think about it... how could a heavy metal lever possibly have a firm and secure feel if the only thing holding it onto the door is just one very tiny set screw that is just one-quarter inch long by one-eighth inch thick? It produces a very cheap and disappointing, loose, wobbly, "about to come off in my hand" feel every time I grasp the door lever. In fact, about once every several months, some of them do come off in my hand, and I must find the allen wrench and re-tighten the tiny set screw. Poor design. However... a beautiful door lever, and ultimately, it's not that big a deal to have to go around and tighten all my door levers down once every 9 months or so. They are still wobbly and loose when I'm done... but they are attached enough to secure the lever for another several months. I'm wondering, if I had spent the considerable additional sum for the identical looking Estate Collection Bethpage lever... those would NOT use these funky little set screws to hold the lever onto the door, right? They surely have a better design. This should be disclosed to customers prior to them spending $1,000 on 10 Baldwin door levers, as I did a couple years ago. I would have purchased the more costly ones if I had known.

I totally agree. Have had the same problem. A very poor design for costly hardware

The real question is how do you change the lever direction? It took an HOUR for a guy a Lowes to figure out how to do it. This is after I had spent over an hour trying myself and had given up decideing it could not be done.

I have 2 of these and the lock turn on the interior will not turn you can only lock with key. I have 3 of these and I dont recall doing anything on the first 1 different. Any ideas?

my Baldwin Prestige is a little different, but I had the same problem and found that there is a dependency on the screw which holds the external handle in place. Once I tightened that screw, the lock turn button started turning.

@@slowowl OMG. you saved me. my old baldwin lock stopped turning because a spring broke inside so i bought a new one and when installing it the lock didnt turn. thinking it might be broken i went back to home depot and exchanged it - and assembled it in the store to test. no problem. then when i put it on the door it didnt turn again. i fought with this for an hour checking everything that could be moved and finally resorted to youtube. watched this video, which is much better than the paper instructions in the box but didnt address my problem. then saw this question and then the doh moment. i had loosened the set screws to put the handles on and tested the lock before finishing. normally a rational thing to do before final trim installation. 5 minutes later i finally had what should have been a 5 minute job in total.
