- This nifty little receiver covers LW MW and SW frequencies in USB LSB CW and AM and receives FM broadcast stations. On my sample however the AM demodulation was defective, which hopefully is just a random issue but QC should have caught it. The sound is good on SSB and FM however.

I just got mine yesterday. Was up way too late last night listening. I put a mini mag loop antenna on it and had a blast.
That 40 meter contract was impressive considering you weren’t using an antenna! Having one of these delivered tomorrow and looking forward to putting it through its paces!
I use a high pass filter that suppresses the AM band by 50db. This stops the overload of the SW bands from the strong AM transmitters and still permits AM signals to pass. One can't use it for AM DX that way but since I bought is mainly for shortwave that is no big loss since i can still hear the local AM stations for news..

A very good unit for a buddy of mine who won't get his ham ticket.
You might check the bandwidth when using AM mode. Might be part of the poor AM receive. Would also check AGC settings. Both would have a effect on how it sounds.
I tried all bandwidth settings but not AGC..

Hello! Around 6 MHz the receiver seems to be overloaded by a FM transmitter. Not a problem of bandwidth I guess. 73s
I have wanted to try one of those, but after trying the Q900, a pos, there is no way. However it would be nice to see that receiver compared to a japanese designed radio.
I have the ATS25X1 works well on AM but need to use the AGC
Noise level didn't change when the antenna was plugged in! 😧
try the ATT this little radio will overload very easily I usually run my ATT at about 22 using a PA0RDT mini whip and I get very good results. neat little toy

It looks like the same interface as the Malahite SDR. Check the filter width on AM, which my have a wider setting, or maybe because it’s showing 0% battery.

There must be some issue with the receiver, my AM is crystal clear! - but i have the ATS25X1, try to upgrade the firmware 73 Levi
If I had this one three years ago I would end up not building anything hahaha. Is a cool little receiver... perfect for SWLs.
How was AM reception?
@@RadioPrepper Ohh I don't know Gil... I'm saying that it looks like a good radio from your video ))) I don't have one )) But my ear tells me that in AM the receiver is overloaded with signal and that's why the distortion. The received signal seems too much since it seems more optimized for weak signals like SSB and CW. So all it needs must be some sort of attenuator. But that is all theory from what I see in the video you made 😅😅😅.
Well, the attenuator did not seem to help and I tried the crappy provided antenna with the same result..

Just placed an order for one of the ATS25 max decoders (most recent version of this piece of kit), gonna test it out with my wee 27mhz telescopic antenna and also my JPC-12 with a 5m telescoping portion just for sheer length on the lower bands just to see how it goes
If it performs well then it’s going into a sigint collections kit,gonna be the first time trying out one these wee things so fingers crossed

Some (most) of these cheap microcontroller-based receivers have trouble demodulating AM. And of course,bandpass filtering is almost non-existent.
CHECK YOUR BANDWIDTH ON AM MODE.
Ok smart people. My icom R ic10 is dead, will this work with my johnson dog collars? Icom used cw, lsb for pinging the dog collars.

I think it overloads on AM. What antenna were you using, and where are the stations and how much power? And HOW MUCH?
I tied using the attenuator and a crappy antenna to no avail..

I have a problem with my ATS25X1. And that is, the ML and HF no longer work. All there is is hiss. We had a lightning storm and the radio was affected by static electricity. Was using the internal antenna. It was just sitting there on the desk. Then a lightning bolt hit the ground nearby and the radio stopped working. The display, menus, and FM works. I spend 100USD on this thing and now it's worthless. No replacement parts anywhere.
Funny there is a bacon button in the ham band. 😂

No repeater coverage. That would make a huge difference.
Repeaters are used on VHF and UHF. This is an HF receiver.

La seule antenne de balcon pour descendre aussi bas serait une Hamstick avec contrepoid (un long fil sur la masse du coax) ou une loop magnétique (voir ma video) mais dans les deux cas je doute que ça marche pour 80m... Il faut juste plus de place..
