What a lesson. I really learned so much. Thank you! I thought the green vase had Galax leaves but I see they are Lotus. In the same family. My favorite will always be the bleeding hearts pottery. That’s just so out of a Ginger Rogers movie 🙏🏻

Oh my goodness. I'm salivating at all this art pottery. All my favorite makers, Roseville, Hull, Stangle, and others. I just put out all my pastel Hull vases for Spring. That bleeding heart would match my display perfectly.

Hello from Atlanta! I’m glad you know the southern trees! A Dogwood blossom looks like a white (or sometimes pink) four leaf clover. Magnolias are white and waxy, and almost resemble a large orchid flower. I remember the mystery item is a liquor bottle produced right after prohibition and the label is missing, but I don’t know the maker or brand of drink. Thank you for brightening the day! 😃💕🙏
What a beautiful bunch of pottery! I was so excited when I recently found my first piece of Roseville out in the wild! It’s a small planter/vase in the Blackberry pattern, made around 1933. No damage either! Found at Savers for $3.99. I didn’t know what it was for sure, until I came home and looked it up, as it is not marked. Was glad I took a chance on it!
Glad to watch again. Short story that happened to me last year, My family went to a flea market to look for a shade for my GWTW lamp and I hault in my step and I was so into shock I found a 18" beautiful Roseville pottery vase that was wrapped with flowers, new what it was before looking at it, people had so much stuff around for a small child to knock down. Which did happen, paid the man for damages, and walked away without the vase. Til this day It is a thought that I could have had that vase for 75.00 One day I will have another chance. Roseville pottery has a beautiful paint hue to them. So lucky you found that one. Rare finds.

Roseville in a thrift store? Chipped like my teeth is that Roseville cookie jar. Yes l do love Roseville and l remember it at the antique shows with out ragous prices. Humidors were always so expensive when I was collecting. Of course, I was so totally addicted to jars and bottles. I dreamed of having a basement that could be shelved and backlit to show the amazing glass pieces. I just couldn’t stay focused. I had ADHD long before they knew what it was. Besides, I had already overextended my luck by the holding hostage of my friends and family with the latest finds.

Love the Hull vases!
i'm telling you...Aleene's Original Tacky Glue works wonders for filling in missing pieces. i have created replacement leaves, flower petals, tiny tree limbs, bird beaks etc by putting the glue on the figurine and sculpting it as it dries, adding additional glue and sculpting some more as needed. then you match some acrylic paint to the piece and dab it on with a "twig brush" or very thin, pointy artist's brush. you'll need those 50 cent bottles of acrylic craft paint like Walmart sells in red, crayola blue, yellow, grass green (green mixed from blue and yellow isn't a very pretty green), white, black, magenta and turquoise. there are also pearlized colors and interesting things like liquorice black to choose from. there is an acrylic [satin] gloss varnish for pieces that need a shiny finish, and probably a shiny gloss finish too. get an artists' small mixing tray or two (6 for a dollar at the Dollar Tree), add a tiny bit of water, mix, stir, test and paint. it's all water soluble for fast clean up. of course the piece needs some TLC afterwards so the repair is preserved. P.S. and if you hate the repair you made, soak the piece and the repair will melt away. :-)
That Roseville console bowl is a beauty! I have only ever found one piece of good pottery at a garage sale. It was a small Roseville vase....in the free box! LOL. Is the mystery item a lemonade cooler from the 1940's?

Scott, it's just like walking though the Thrift Shop. I enjoyed spent far more money than my budget allowed. Loved the Roseville cookie jar and the Lotus Leaf vase. All the hand give was interesting. There is a product called air dry paper clay. You can knead in a little paint and tacky glue to fill chips. Works very well. Get some good quality acrylic paints and Ailene's tacky glue (in the gold bottle).
After obtaining my mom's Red Wing 982 fan vase after she passed away last November, I have been searching for more pieces of that same era. I was able to find a 1356 Red Wing vase for $7, which got me going, I just need to get out and start searching!
Do you ever come across any Red Wing art pottery out east where you mostly shop? Here in Minnesota we have a higher chance of finding it since Red Wing is from Minnesota, but I don't think it has the same prestige as say McCoy, Hull or Roseville. Any thoughts on Red Wing? I know it's all in the eye of the collector, and I'm not into it to resell, I just love the look of these art pottery vases. Their dinnerware and bowls really don't interest me, I just love the vases!! Take care! Really enjoy thrifting with you!!!!

You should look into the FedEx option on ebay. You can print labels right from the same interface you print Priority labels from. It is discounted heavily for store subscribers.

Thats nuts you found those two matching Hull vases a year apart and they're both undamaged. Talk about serendipity! Perhaps list them online for local pickup only like you did with your chair set..

About the only Hull I have is a bunch of brown drip dishes (along with some other pieces by other companies). I think I also have one small blue pitcher/bud vase.

My guess on the “cream and green” is maybe a water container. Or oil container. Something that wasn’t really washed or for food I think.
FedEx is a godsend, especially for heavy or very large items. Can't beat their rates, for longer shipping distances.

Scott how do you know the Roseville is not reproduction? I saw so much of it at a place I used to go to in PA called The Castle. They sold a lot of imported stuff, antique furniture, and reproductions of almost everything that was popular at auctions. I would see it everywhere from antique stores to flee markets. Just curious.
Quick answer....30 + years of experience handling the real deal. There is no better teacher than "real life" experiences. After you have handled and seen hundreds of pieces in person, you can spot the fakes a mile away. The fakes seem dull and lifeless. The glaze lacks the "egg shell" shine of the real thing. Also the signatures on the bottom are just not right. The paint tends to be amateurish and lacks the depth and richness of the original pieces. I appreciate you asking me the question and I'll show some fake Roseville signatures in my next video.
Nevermind the pottery...we finally got a close-up of your ring! I've been wondering about the significance of that ring you always wear. Hubby and I have been straining to see what letter/symbol was on it. It looks like a 'B'...are we correct? An old English letter B?! Could that be the first letter of your last name? Ahhh, sorry....I was supposed to answer 'what the heck is this?' but I got another question for you :-) Great haul!
The ring belonged to my grandfather. His first name was Wilhelm (German version of William) but almost everyone called him Bill. His hands were thicker than mine and the ring is too big for me to wear on my ring finger. :)
I have a similar looking bowl made by Fenton, with that shape of foot and have been told that it would have had a black base (that I think is called a plinth).
Oh yes Fenton (and other glass companies) manufacture black glass bases to be used with all sorts of vases and console bowls. The black bases make the bowls and vases look so elegant!
The bottom of that azurite reminds me of Tupperware

No they weren't marketed as a pair, that's true. And yes I sure cold sell as singles. I'm not really sure what I'll do with them. Possible better to sell this summer at the antique flea market.

Hi, Scott! I am your eBay customer who purchased the Gary Steinborn vase. It was packaged beautifully and arrived today - I salute the USPS working to keep a sense of normalcy for the public.... I used to visit a pottery shop in Venice, Ca. back in the early ‘80’s. The pottery was sold out of a classic Craftsman bungalow house and the entire surrounding yard! You would have been in pottery heaven! I wonder if this was the childhood home of Steinborn?
