The 1979 interview with Tourneur was on The Criterion Channel for a while and I watched it there. Great little documentary. He comes across as such a genuine and humble guy,
I have many fond memories of getting that newly released Val Lewton DVD Box set in 2005 and discovering those movies for the first time. Great experiences all. My box set was the one with the shorter Val Lewton documentary of around an hour, but it did not come with the longer documentary narrated by Martin Scorsese. All of the commentaries attached to the movies in that box set are quite good.
I really hope that The Criterion Collection has the rights to I Walk With a Zombie and The Seventh Victim. Maybe they could even do a release with those 2 films together.
I was hoping Criterion would release all 9 films, but maybe that's a pipe dream. I just got the blus of The Body Snatcher and Curse from Shout Factory, and they're gorgeous.
I was the same way. Criterion may have Zombie and/or The Seventh Victim but are in apparently no hurry to release them if so. All the BDs so far are great though I wish some had better audio. Especially The Leopard Man which has an audible hum on the LD and BD.
I watched the remake some years ago and I found it to be an unpleasant and distasteful film. I do find Nastassja Kinski at that time to be pretty sexy though. Great physique. She must have been a trained dancer judging by her posture and how she moved.
I like Schrader and most of the cast assembled. It pains me that not only was there a remake but one so devoted to making things literal and stripping away virtually all of the original’s poetry. I can’t stand the film whatsoever and despise what it did-but I do understand some of the ideas and their approach. It was an unnecessary film to make and thankfully other attempts to remake the Lewton films have dissipated. They did partially remake Zombie and have tried several other times. Bowie’s song was great though.

If they’ve got either I hope they don’t take years to get around to them!
@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader You and me both. I will keep my DVD set just in case....
@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader Well it's been years. Someone is sitting on it.

I've wanted this blu ray since I started collecting criterions and still don't own it.... so many films, so little money
