@@quitestiger2818 What affair this mans love for looking at the moon or just starting a fire within the jungle and then failing too tempt those flames, and then just to stare, are my eyes that green, and within a heartbeat.
I saw David Bowie sing this and much of his catalogue at an outdoor concert in 1983 at the Oakland Coliseum and it give me chills thinking about how good he was.
Very underrated film. With all the dialogue stripped away, this video shows you what a great job the actors did with the body language and facial expressions of the characters. They're both feline, obviously, but you notice Malcolm McDowell embodies the hunter type of cat and Nastassja Kinski is the more defensive, guarded type of cat.
That shot of McDowell looking back over his shoulder as he lopes upstairs is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. I wish they had included it here.
I love how dark this songs starts then it flies into a flamboyant groove, thats why bowie was great he wasnt afraid to be serious and slightly over the top sometimes cheesy even in the same song. There was an artist and entertainer in him.
I know Cat People isn't on anyone's Top 10 list of favorite Horror films, but there is something special about this films moody, intimate, sexy visual atmosphere which makes it unique. It's not out to scare you, it's just trying to tell a tale of a families dark secret, which resembles those strange fairy tales we grew up with reading as kids.
"Cat People" is on my TOP FIVE of Bowie songs (also because related to good memories.. My real first youth love... We gone to watch the movie together... Where are you now my little sweet Barbara?)
I saw Cat People when it first came out and it has always occupied a special place in my psyche. The film has a unique vibe and feel to it and truly fits the definition of erotic horror. The New Orleans setting is perfect and Natassja Kinski is mesmerizing. Such a film could never be made today.
Yep, loved the film from when I first saw it at the cinema. In Western society today there is a taboo about brothers and sisters marrying each other, it's certainly NOT good for the gene-bank of humans. But if we consider that these, mostly human looking people, were NOT actual full-blooded humans, yeah ok we'll accept that. Right from the first time I saw it, I felt sorrow that an entire species was wiped out. With her brother killed, she would never be able to have the 2 children, one male , one female, that she needed to continue the family line, as all her fore-parents before her had done. Plus she arranged the circumstances so that she got turned into Panther-mode, and then captured into a zoo without killing anything, thereby locking her into the panher-mode indefinitely. Well that as I remember it. Think I watched it on videotape but even that would be 30 years ago or more. Love the song though and the accompanying visuals ain't half bad either.
Yes it is, both his vocals and the arrangement are way better here. I remember hearing it from the PA system of an open-air public bath as closing time approached, a late afternoon in, I guess, September 1982. :)
Agree, the later reworking flattened it. This original by Moroder and Bowie (which was a major hit by itself in many countries around Europe) is more subtle and dynamic. One of his greatest vocal performances of the 1980s.
I was 9 yrs old and watched this with my sister unbeknownst to my mum ( illegal cable from my older sister's bf who owned the local arcade/pizzeria) whom was busy with er 7th and last baby daddy..... :] that's life! at the time I hated the song but with age I've come to LOVE it!!!!
Yes, she looks at once gorgeous and classy her!. A 1920s kind of look (garconne, it used to be called) - Bowie would have been familiar with it, it echoes films and fashion from those days. The film itself was a remake of an older German movie.
Her eyes are not big nor dark. Why the hell big eyes are beautifull? i don t think so...they are ordinary and she hasn t "big" eyes, fourtunnally!@@claudetteh67
I remember the movie being restricted, and only on HBO...which hardly anyone had. But the song so resonated, and the video right on mark the movie. Even with my own cat...the way she looked at me....not psychotic or anything. She and I went through a lot with moving, homelessness for a period, me sneaking her into no pet apartment for 2 years, protecting her, she was breaking me out of my cardiac arrest and all once. She had a stare that went right through me....like she was seeing my soul. But not in a bad way. If you know anything of Shakira of comic lore, she was the closest to it. The fire of my anxieties, depression, she would get in my face at times at night. Smack me.
Cat People and Dog Soldiers both need a fresh remake. Can you imagine someone like Gal Gadot taking Natassja Kinski role and Liev Schrieber playing Malcolm McDowells part?
Still love this movie. Nastassja Kinski made me question my sexuality. Malcolm McDowell put that meter back to bi, at least. So much sexy, and so moody. Great soundtrack from Giorgio Moroder. Great song from Bowie. So much 80s goodness.
This was absolutely, positively the most erotic horror movie of all time. It didn't make me question my sexuality - I felt even MORE heterosexual after seeing Natassia's nude walk in the moonlight!
Great song and production , with superb vocals from Bowie. I never understood what the "toy organ" bit at 1:43 was meant for, it still sounds funny... ;)
Un capolavoro allegoria della liberazione di genere attraverso la ricapitolazione della storia della natura e come in Schelling essa diventa la preistoria dell'io in tal caso quello femminile!
She is like Wolverine who hates the part of her that's an animal, while her brother is more like Saber-tooth who has embraced his inner animal without question or doubt.....
Surprised on this fact you've mentioned, delighton. As well very correct. Irena doesn't understand her animal side while Paul is desperate to help her mate him in preventing such horrors, but all doesn't exactly goes well...
The movie was about 7 years before I met my life partner. Sometimes I feel like all the actresses I saw from childhood on up to adulthood led to this one meeting and person. Fun! (Miss Kinski and Miss Audrey Hepburn are two of my top five favorite actresses.) Two children about twenty feet from me currently have major resemblances. Life is very short. GRASP IT guys and gals.
