About Pt Harmohan Khuntia
Pandit Harmohan Khuntia is a legendary Tabla player, highly respected musician and prolific composer . He has received Wide spread recognition in outside the state of Odisha .He is recipient of several numbers of prestigious state and national awards. He has been applauded for evolving a distinctive style of his own without diluting the purity of Indian tradition He has elevated Tabla as a musical instrument in his own rights both through solo performances as a main artists and through his accompaniment of others .He has been devoted to the classical Tabla playing for 50 years without interruption and is considered as one of the most powerful Tabla player alive in the country. Pandit Khuntia is credited with preserving classical musical style and philosophy. he has kept the tradition of Odishi style and the Farukkhabad Gharana of Tabla playing by subtly balancing the warm bass tones of the Baian with the higher pitched crisp tones and syncopations of the Tabla as well as Pakhawaj .Many of his creative compositions have been written to accompany the rhythmical moments of Odishi dancers and are a specialty of Odishi tradition. Thus, he is considered as a master of Pakhawaj in the field of Odishi dance and Odishi vocal music too .
Pandit Khuntia has produced or performed on over thousands of recordings in several genres, while staying true to his classical Indian lineage, especially when he was an “A” grade staff artists in All India Radio, Katak for more than three decades. Guru Khuntia has founded this organization since the year 1990 and has many disciple of national standard.
