One of the greatest songs ever composed. I rate this one higher than Bohemian Rhapsody... and the vocals from Freddie, who, let's not forget, was REALLY ill at the time, are fantastic. The guy was not far from his deathbed, and could still pull off one of the greatest vocal performances of all time.
The acoustic Flamenco guitar was played by Steve Howe from the band Yes, he was a good friend of the band and was asked to play for this song. Howe is the only other guitarist to play on a studio album for Queen.
When Freddie said "release your mask" ...he is talking to God...to destroy our fears and show himself. This song was the ultimate ..when the CD was released, I knew this was not the same Freddie I followed since childhood but I bought the CD immediately. He was dying and he knew it. He aimed this song at humanity, and God to reveal himself. Freddie knew he was going to meet the maker. I hope his transition was as beautiful as his vocals and music. Freddie lives forever and for generations to come....A TRUE LEGEND!
