We lost so much when a certain someone decided to axe Steve Wright in the Afternoon. A national treasure and a wonderful man. I will never forgive the person and the BBC for taking away 'our' Steve.
My 1st job after training for 18 months as a Radar engineer in the RAF , was at RAF Locking in 1981. In 1T hangar where Radio 1 would be playing, Steve Wright came on who I'd not heard before. I was instantly hooked. He would go right up close to the microphone and say "C'mon touch your radio and feel the warmth of my sincerity " 💜 All the possie and characters like Sid the Manager Linda Lust Gervais the hairdresser Ask Elvis Hopeless Weather girl Damian the Social Worker The Pub singer would keep us entertained. It was all very silly but definitely made the working afternoon pass quicker !! I could not believe it when they axed his show in 2022 I cannot listen to Mills instead I listen to my own music collection on Spotify now. Too young to go Steve RIP 💜
