Radiologist here. The reason there aren't more free standing imaging centers is because back in the mid 2000s the government, presumably in conjunction with hospital system lobbyists gutted outpatient reimbursement for medical imaging. Hospital systems have gained a lot of regulatory capture on medical imaging. AI and a Decreasing boomer population coupled with the other type of capture in the hospital...bureaucracy is gutting the system
