This is a great idea, especially for me as I live in Australia and when I’m watching videos with overseas groceries I find it hard to find the right ingredients and for the right prices. I don’t have a large family but I bulk cook to freeze meals for after school and nights when I’m working late. Thanks so much.

Jodi Crouch Hey Jodi, I’m from Australia and still a bit new with filming my own videos but just thought I’ll comment and let you know as I too much prefer to watch Australian cooking channels/videos just so much easier since our ingredients can sometimes be so different to other countries! ☺️

From Melbourne, It is always a good idea to look on the bottom shelf for cheaper items. Also, I find at aldi I can get some organic things like pastas and sauces cheaper than what I would find for the brand names at Woolies or Coles.

    Hey Jenny
I do a chicken and pasta dish. Goes down really well at my house and seconds are always requested.
    Chicken breasts x 3
    Tinned tomatoes x 2
    Mixed herbs
    Salt
    Pepper
2 to 3 onions sliced and diced
Mushrooms sliced (if you like mushrooms that is)
    Tomato puree
Pasta of your choice I usually use spirals
Grated cheddar cheese or cheese of choice
Put pasta onto cook before starting the next stage
In a diced pot fry off the sliced chicken breasts (I don't use oil my pots I use you don't need oil) then add onions fry them with chicken (I forgot to say once chicken is cooked remove any juice), once onions are soft (sometimes to mix it up I sometimes leave the onions crunchy), add mushrooms fry for around 4/5 minutes.
Once the above is done add the tins of tomatoes season with salt and pepper to your taste, add mixed herbs and lastly some tomato puree again add to your choice. Lastly once this is boiling add the cooked pasta and give it a good mix and leave to simmer for around 5 minutes. You can always add more tinned tomatoes, salt, pepper and puree as everyone's taste buds are different also you can do this dish to be either more juicy (hence why I said about adding more tomatoes etc) or you remove juice it's all down to personal preference.
Beauty of this dish is it can be served as a main meal or you can have with garlic bread and cheese on top. This is done using only 2 pots (1 pot if you use the pot first to boil pasta set it aside and cook the main ingredients there after no oven baking required) 😊 less washing up and less energy used.
Sometimes I will the above without chicken and then is used as a side to either oven baked coated chicken, steak etc whatever you fancy plus once cold it still can be eaten with salad etc. It's all down too personal choice and preference 😊😊.
    Lisa UK xxxx

For left overs, I use sandwich size zip lock bags work well for a one person meal. I label it with the date made and what's in it. I scoop food in, then partially zip shut the bag and squeeze as much air out as possible. That way its flatter and takes up less space in my freezer. I also, found buying diced meat expensive, so I buy a good sized roast (beef, pork, chicken, lamb) and cut it up at home (yes, I too, cut it up small) and put what amount I would use for example: soup, curry, casserole's, stir fry, etc... into a labelled zip lock bags and push out as much air as possible to save on freezer space. The meat used in roasts is of better quality than the cheap meat cuts you get in store bought diced meats. Much more tender, I think. I also, check the reduced meat section at the grocery store to save more money. When I buy beef mince, I split up the (approx. 700kg or 900kg) package of mince into four portions in labelled zip lock bags, flatten them with air pushed out. I buy apples cut them up and bag them also to freeze. I freeze bananas for future use in cakes and bread. When I don't have canned soups, I always have cup of soup on hand to use instead (again a space saver). I also, make my own yeast breads by hand, its so easy and yummy. When I make yeast bread, I also, make two large pizzas, one large loaf, and cinnamon rolls in one batch. Almost daily, I make a quick bread, its always American Southern Biscuits (they're like a savoury scone, sort of) so easy, quick and done in 20min. Best warm just baked with margarine/butter, any time of day! Kids love to grab n go with them. I love making tortillas from scratch too, for Mexican wraps night. I too, don't use a microwave either. I live in the UK, have seven children, with now only two teenagers at home.

Yes, I often buy roasts to cut up, it's a cheap way compared to the already prepped meats. ;-) Lots of great tips in your comment. thanks

That would be me also, I don't allow any form of PEAS in my home. Growing up if mom knew you didn't like something you got more of it. The middle sister was mom's favorite and her favorite food was split pea soup. Around 10 mom gave me a huge bowl and made me eat every bite. About half was through I ran into the bathroom and up it all came. She tried to make me finish it. My dad told her enough!! She doesn't like PEAS and if they make her sick you aren't forcing her to eat them again.
I don't have many foods I won't eat, but those are top on my list!!!

Hi Marianne 👋 I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….

We own a microwave but don't use it often. I rather heat up food on the stove. It take so much better and it hotter.

I also use bacon and onion instead of chicken if you want a cheaper option. I use the Aldi pasta bake sauces instead of the soup. I haven’t tried the bread crumbs thing though, I will try 😊

Coles pasta 65c, corn $1 chicken thighs $4/kg then debone, cheese block $2/250g then grate, smart buy, so it can be cheaper for a little extra work

Ditch the meat and cheese and replace with beans and it's even cheaper. Much cheaper.

This is a great base recipe that you can swap out one item for another. For example add a couple large cans of tuna or when you find BBQ chicken on sale at the end of the day (sometimes can get them for$5) buy and pull off all the meat. Personally I would like more sauce and add another can or 2. Cream of chicken, celery or mushroom would also be good.

I would love to be able to do this. Buttttt I can’t bring myself to buy non Australian products, I try to support farmers and Australian made as much as I can

Some of the cheaper brands are australian made , however like most people you have to budget and I do buy cheaper food to help my money stretch xxx

Jennifer Collins yer I very rarely, if ever buy supermarket brand foods, if I could I’d never shop at big name shops. I always try to support Australia first if possible, and also have to buy gluten free, lactose free, and so many other food restrictions, so supermarket brands rarely works for my family anyway, and I have to cook a lot from scratch.

4 chicken breasts divided by 17 people? Add some fresh salad, some fresh fruit slices or garlic bread, beverages... ?
Main dish may be $20, but where's the nutrition?
Those older sibs (especially the boys) could knock that $20 off in one sitting.

coles and Woolies Generic Mixed Frozen Veges and their 500gm dry pastas are the cornerstones of my grocery shops. I make Slow Cooker meat n vege pastas with them all the time, the proteins and pasta sauce flavours etc may change but I love my spirals or penne. Plenty of leftovers for my freezer. Budget Bulk Cooking is for singles too - ps I love my nuclear wave for reheating.

I don’t own a microwave. Had one years ago and I don’t miss it, food taste better when heated in an oven or toaster oven.

If you put a damp chux or thin cloth under your chopping board, it won't move around as much and be safer to cut food 😊

Also proud chick in chelsea heights is amazing, they supply tasman meats, and are cheaper. They have red meat and everything else too, but fillets are $5.99 a kilo
