This is the time Alaskans celebrate the end of the harsh winter which will gradually lead to spring. We watch the Sled Dog Races, visit a couple breweries, join the Pioneers for breakfast, and ride some rides in a snow storm. We appreciate all of you that watch us!

    Wow... some things never change. So remember uncounted days of winter skies and white ground! When I was sent to Ft Wainwright out of AIT in 1984, I had been a lifelong Floridian, born and raised in Orlando. Left Seattle when temp was 60 and landed in Fairbanks it was -17. Thought I would die! Later I found out Anchorage is not near the extremes of the interior! Still, all these years later, looks very much the same! Keep the videos coming, great to watch your adventures!

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +1

      Hi Wayne. Fairbanks has grown a little but the feeling of community stays the same. About 15 years ago Anchorage was amazing. Lately, it's been in a slump with the crime rate and all the big businesses like Nordstrom closing down. We went into the mall and I couldn't believe all the empty spots in 5th ave mall. I'm sure that has to do with online shopping as well but hopefully the city gets its act together and becomes a beautiful place to live again. Coming from Florida must have been quite the shock. Thank you for watching!!

    Marvelous! Yet another entirely enchanting video! Huge thanks for posting it! I have never felt comfortable in an urban environment; but, one snow covered and haunted ghostly, as yours in the morning was, with a delicious fresh coffee, what more could you ask for! Anytime that you open your doors to a magical landscape of fresh fallen snow, you just know that it will be a heavenly day! I have to say though, that I do not think that most residents of Anchorage appreciate the beauty of their city. October 2010, late afternoon, waiting for a flight at the airport, to pass the time , walked to the university and back; slate cold thunder grey skies, snow settled to sides and back and huge flakes falling, cosy orange glows from all the windows, warm urban glow reflecting to the gathering dark, an afternoon of poetic haunted majesty! Anchorage is an entirely beautiful place. It just depends on how you look at it! Thanks again though, for yet another delightful video!

      You're writing a book right? Your writing is beautiful. Admirable you walked to the University while waiting at the airport. Anchorage is a magical place. I hope it gets back to how it used to be someday. We have learned through all of this that what you said seems to be true for most Alaskans. People seem to have forgotten how amazing it feels to be outside, no matter what the weather. We continued to be amazed by how many people are enjoying the outdoors who never made further out of their house than to the office each week. It's really nice to take this time together as a community and focus on each other. Thank you for always having such amazing responses. You are truly appreciated you and the reminder of what's taken for granted.

    Alaska in winter is so far out of my Floridian comfort zone I got chills in the first sixty seconds. However as an informative video this is the best. Showing life as it is lived in a place I couldn’t manage. Very nicely done.
    PS I used to hate needles. After a motorcycle wreck and three months in the hospital I realized a needle is nothing. I actually liked having a catheter and not thinking about peeing. TMI Rather extreme therapy but it worked. The height thing I haven’t figured yet. Sorry.

    Not sure if you remember my ride on the little Ferris wheel in Fairbanks when there was tears and snot at the top and the guy had to stop it at the first bottom to let your mother off

      Of course I remember 😂 It was a little one too! Fear is a real thing. I'm thankful for people in my life willing to "take the chance" with me. (although, I hardly think it's a "rational" fear because you're more likely to get bit by a snake in Alaska than die of the Ferris wheel). Ok, so maybe I made that part up 💁🏻‍♀️

    Ha Ha Ha ! I’ll bet you don’t get him to do that again. I would be afraid of them doing a rush job on putting the rides together, with it being so cold.

      I tried not to think of that. In the past I've heard of other rides malfunctioning and people being injured at the State Fair. Oooooh I should have reminded him of that!! 😂😂😂. Hope you enjoyed seeing downtown Anchorage. Thank you for keeping in touch.

      Ughhh, he's so perky in the morning. Drives me nuts. I knew we'd be around crowds so I had to spike my coffee that morning. Once I was there I was fine. 😂 The Pioneers were so much fun, they always have great stories to tell. Looking forward to you getting here, we can have spiked coffee together 😁

    Why is there a doll in the van?

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +1

      Hi Bill, Cynthia used it while she was traveling solo and some of our subscribers loved him so we just bring him in and out on a very rare occasion :). I know seems weird but anything that helps someone feel comfortable.

      @@WingsandWheelsAlaska thanks for letting me know. Though I reckon the doll would scare me more than being alone and having it as a form of deterrence. The doll looks creepy lol 😱
      Btw I said on FB that the husband needs a medal, apologies if it caused offence, was not my intention. Cheers.

      Hahahahahaha, so true Andrew. As we were editing this Jim said "You know? You really played me on that one!"
      I'd LOVE to see people's reactions with TimKim in public. hmmmm...that gives me an idea. Thanks! 😂.
      Thanks for watching, I think Jim is realizing a lot of people feel the exact same way he does.
