@@kgrfirdjy It's on the prototype BUT it is still on some of the earlier release carts. IF you can get one with Revision 00 or 01 on, you've got the rom with Thriller on.
The reason is because Sega forgot they didn't have the rights to thriller so they recalled all copies that had thriller and released a different version.
I will never understand why some copies of the game have thriller, while others don’t. Why would the GRAVEYARD of all places play “Another part of me”?
That's because the developers of Moonwalker only had permission use songs that were written by Michael Jackson himself. Even though he sung and performed Thriller, the song was written by Rod Temperton.
They didn't have the rights they needed to include it. Early versions of the game actually still have it during the graveyard level during the dance attack parts. That was eventually removed as well.
@@bigtimerusher9719 The information our planet received was that Michael and/or producers wanted to promote the BAD album to sell more copies as opposed to the previously released Thriller. So they replaced the Thriller zombie music with Another Part of Me, which was on the BAD album. There were different versions of the game released. Think of it like a first edition trading card. The first or first few editions released had the Thriller parts still part of the Dance segments, but the later versions were all replaced by Another Part of Me. Something similar happened with The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time with the Fire Temple's Chanting music being replaced by the Shadow Temple moans after the first versions, but of course this was because of complaints rather than marketing albums lol. Hope this helps!
Has anyone noticed how this game has a connection to Sonic the Hedgehog like a lot of sound effects were used and the music instruments sound obviously like the ones in sonic 1
@@BillimanMCjon Thats not entirely true, japanese games had a way better soundchip usa soundchips were less advanced, so if this game had similar sounds to sonic the hedgehog, it was developed in japan because sonic 1 was and i think sonic team worked on this game, and even if it was the same soundchip the sound effects were used by sonic team and were probably from a sound library the same one used on sonic 1.
@@xanderjacques5642 No but here the bass instrument sounds like one thats pretty commonly used across all genesis songs, not just sonic or moonwalker. And the (trumpet?) instrument doesnt sound like anything from sonic
The main sound composer for MOONWALKER on Mega Drive was Hiroshi Kubota aka JIMITA. He was also a sound programmer on Sonic 1 & 2 alongside Yukifumi Makino (and later more people). You can read the Hiroshi Kubota, article on Sega Retro for more info, or check out his website that's linked there. I would here, but I forgot that (I think) linking websites in RUclips comments marks them as spam. Annoying for wanting to provide sources, but makes sense otherwise.
I don't think so since there isn't a strike on this video, but you should check just to be sure. Save your video as "unlisted" and see if YT notifies you of copyrighted sounds during your intro. Hope this helped, have a good one :)
This music is still copyrighted, but RUclips's algorithm doesn't go after videogame soundtracks unless it is licensed, since those Mega Drive remixes of Michael Jackson music do not replace the original songs, it's easy to use them and hope you don't get flagged. Copyright needs to change, after 56 years, the copyright to songs, books and movies expired, but it was extended to the whole life of the author + 70 years, and 95 years if it's a company, Disney was the main reason for that.

the thriller song was supposedly on a prototype cartridge from what i heard

It sounded exactly as I imagined it would.
Why the hell was this left out of the final version of the game? This was obviously PERFECT for that graveyard level. 😔

Some copy’s of the game had this song others didn’t I would love to know why
I believe the version that includes thriller is a prototype
The retail copies that had thriller only had it in a special dance move because (I guess) the programmers forgot to replace that portion
They had this song in the prototype versions, but they removed it for final release - probably 'cause they couldn't get the rights to use it.
@Lee Hayman because rod temperton wrote it
