In this video I answer a question from one my readers who asked:
"Hello Evan,
I am Tomal Dass from India. I always love to read all your articles about business and entrepreneurial leadership. It always fills me with new energy. It helps me a lot to learn a lot from the experiences of well known businessmen arround the world.
Recently I was working in a partnership in event management business, We were new in the market and we didn't have any capital to rotate in Business. We were working to start a music festival in Central India. I belong to the city named Indore. It is the business capital of India and I figured out that there is a great scope in this region for a musical festival as there is no competition in this sector. We tried to go for sponsorship for bigger companies who's products are related to youth, as musical festival is related to youth. We were unable to generate any fund out of that. I thought may be we were new to this market that is why companies were not sponsoring us.
Then we went for local businessmen for sponsorships and this one also didn't worked. So finally I planned for doing something off the grid. I planned to take a loan of 20% money for the event and ask any bigger Business firm to give their names for the sponsorships for free so that other business firms would also sponsor us. Then I dropped that idea because i didn't know that it's ethically right or not and will it work or not. Please guide me with this if you can. I would learn more from your articles.

What if your idea is confidential and social media will be you giving the idea away for others to jump on especially when there are few competitors in your market. Why would anyone do this?
Yes, however the market is tight and a highly competitive one.

Hi Evan, I am part of a fairly new youth sports team and for the past 2 years the team has relied on the parents, and one fund raiser which grosses approximately $2500 to fund the team. It is a traveling team, and unlike our competition we do not have any sponsors to help us build. Our competition has trailers, and team banners, they stay in hotel rooms while we either pay out of pocket for a room or just simply drive 100's of miles round trip each day of a 2 to 3 day tournament. I love the idea of getting followers on social media to prove that there are others that believe in your idea. However what if there’s someone that actually have the immediate funds and steal your idea? How can I avoid that?

This is encouraging. I am developing a plan, however there is always need for leeway room and have not come up with an estimate of margins- hopefully that much more persuasive for people to sponsor me by donation of services and products, rather than cash and need to show how it was spent. What if you need the money to get started? Say you already know what you want to do, but you need a venue that costs money. Would an online petition help?
Depends what are you starting. I suppose you could try an online petition or try reaching out people with who you could collaborate with. You can also try saving some money aside for a start and set a date when you would have enough to begin. Good luck! :) #Believe #BTA447 Luka

Any recommendations for an on-line course(s) I can take to prepare me for something like this? I have some experience on a small scale but not on a large one. We come from a much smaller community than approx. 89% of or competition so the ratio of businesses, especially those with good economic resources is few and far between. If you see fit, will you please do a piece on getting team sponsorships and getting the most out of each sponsor? Thanks.

My fiance and I wrote a series of children's books that we think would be great in area hospitals, daycare centers, and parent resource centers; however, we have tried knocking on a few of those doors, to no avail. Someone mentioned getting a local business to sponser us by perhaps, purchasing a few of our books in order to donate them to said area hospitals, daycare centers, and parent resource centers, on behalf of the business to display their philanthropy, which sounds like a great idea, but how would we, after getting a business to purchase a few of our books, ensure that a place would even want our books as a donation? Any advice would be great!

How would we go about hosting a club event? any help please
Since our sports tournament team has not gathered as sponsor yet, the actual event that we will be competing at does have sponsors, thus can we use the fact that these sponsors have joined the bandwagon for sponsoring the event and we would like someone to sponsor our tournament team as well? The cost of sponsoring the event would be greater than sponsoring our competition team and having us wear their LOGO on our uniforms and featured on our website.
Question: Hi Evan, If you sent a sponsorship proposal to a company and they liked the proposal and want to meet with you? What should you do/say/present when meeting the sponsors face to face? Many thanks coming from New Zealand :)
When obtaining a product donation for an event it is always best to identify how you will promote that donation. For example a $100 product donation to a 100 person event is a $1.00 per person advertisement. Very expensive advertising for donator. You have to get a pennies per person rate and create a event that links and positively promotes donations. Just saying...

So I'm a motocross racer and I had to quit racing last year because I don't have the funds anymore now that I'm in college. I love racing and it's my passion and it's something that I want to do while I still can, while I'm still young. Today somebody mentioned about getting sponsors, I didn't even know that was a thing, I only thought that the top pros in the world where the people who got sponsored. So do you think it's a possibility for me to get sponsored so I can continue to do what I love? Really all I would need is 3 or 4 companies that could give me $100 a month, it's on average about $100 a weekend to race and the little extra $10-15 would pay for gas and things like that. How would I go and approach these companies? Can I ask any company? What can I do to show them that they will get something out of it, so I can show that I have that "momentum"? Thanks
Inurbelly124 I'd look for companies who are already spending money in the motocross industry. Then use any angle you can to get in. Social media. Networking. LinkedIn. connect.data.com - ask everyone you know to find someone who works at those businesses and reach out.

Hey Evan, thanks for the video. I'm wondering about getting companies to sponsor dancers. I'm a dancer in a dance company and a collective and none of us have much training in seeking sponsorship or asking for donations or money. I need to get people to agree that dance is important but art is not the most popular thing to sponsor.

My questions are is.. If you are having a community event and want to have funds or products donated from large companies, do you pitch to the store manager, the regional manager or the corporate CEO???

If the company pay millions for publicity why would they give a hoot about the media attention they would get from said event??
Tara Lincoln Depends on the size of the organization. If you're talking to large companies, they have people whose job it is to manage product donations. If it's a smaller company it could be the CEO. #BTA25
