I have both, started out with White Nights but then switched gradually to Horadam and gave the others to my kids. To me the WhiteNight colors look a bit more artificial, a tad bit too high in saturation, while Schminckes have a more natural touch, which I really love.

First, it matters how you use the colours. All brands you mentioned are professional. White Nights are being used by Art teachers so again, it's the technique that matters. Second, those are not watercolours for kids, but for professionals. All have in the base recipe Kordofan, which is Arabic Gum. Watercolour artists are looking for this element in the base recipe before buying something because it's the one that helps blend the paint better. As long as it it present in all brands, they're all professional. It's better to read on the internet and make a little bit of research before forming an opinion

@@cataliniulian5972 Wait a moment, do I get you right? This is a video in which an artist compares the watercolours of two different producers and comes to a conclusion which of them she favours and why, and asks for comments. I comment with my personal experience, and you say that I should rather read on the internet and "make research before forming an opinion"? Is this some kind of joke that I missed?
I didn't refer to the colour's formula, I clearly refereed simply to their saturation / vibrancy.
Why aren't my years of experience with those colours and my own senses and likings enough to have an opinion?
Why and especially what do I need to research, before I'm allowed to have one, then?
Where did I rate the colours as professional or non-professional? I didn't say that at all.
And, what baffles me the most: Why do you think children shouldn't use professional art supplies? I got my very first professional Schmincke watercolour pallet from my grandma, who made a living painting beautiful watercolour pictures and selling them, when I was in pre-school. My children started to paint before they could walk, and now they're in high school, visiting art school in their free time. I didn't give them the White Nights colours, because they are bad colours, they really aren't. I would never give bad art supplies to my children. They are just a bit more vibrant, as Alyona noticed in her video, too, and while I prefer colours to be a bit more muted, autumn-lit natural, my children love that vibrant tang in their artwork.
Why are you coming for me, what did I do?

@@elle-iza Phew, I love that, I wish my mom or granny would have given me good colours. I always had the cheap ones because "it's just for school" or "just for drawing at home". I don't say that you can't make good artwork with bad materials, but it's way more satisfying to use good quality.
Also: I love vibrant colours, therefore: #TeamWinterNights, right there with your kids. 😋

They are both very beautiful paintings!!! And yes, it would be wonderful if you'd make a tutorial. 😊
Very interesting how different the paints are! Both are lovely but I think the Schminke paints are better for layering. As it happens I do have both sets.. I live in Finland and found all the new White Nights' colours locally, so beautiful!! 😍

Thank you so much :) I hardly ever do layering, I tend to love the impact of colour straight away in first go and then dilute the watercolour with water to get to lighter tones. Lucky you, I tried both here in UK and Ukraine and it's hard to find all of them in one place. At one point I found someone on Amazon, and they sold a set of 7 of the new colours, but excluding the two red/pinks... :(

i prefer white nights its much colour for less money- WN( choose seperately in tubes, because not every colour is lightfast and some are opake) were my second brand i used, first was Van Gogh, also nice but if you mix them they can look a bit dirty, but they are very good for beginners who want colourful paints.
most colour for money you will have from Mijello Gold Class, but its personal taste of you like them or not. I like Sennelier very much they are very pretty and mixing and flow is good.
At least i dont miss my holbein- live them too! Only Martha Grahams are not my taste- they look dirty if you mix them- to expensive here in austria and mostly availible in sets- i hate sets! actually im waiting for my W&N Prof.- cant wait working with them.
    Thanks for your video:-)

thank you for sharing your thoughts! would you recommend starting with white nights or windsor and newton cotman? or should i invest a little more and buy sennelier or schminke?

It's easier for me to get White Nights here in my country (and cheaper too). I thought they are less of quality because of their price, but I am glad that they are not. I am new to painting so I don't know much about professional quality. I want to try Schminckes, but for now, I'm happy using White Nights.

Alyona, I'm new to painting. I've been following along and painting with you. Right now using inexpensive paints just to see if I enjoy and can do. So far, I am liking it. (Using better paints does make a difference but I will continue with what I do have for awhile before making an investment in better paints). Love watching your videos. Thank you for posting them.

Thank you Brenda, if you don't want to invest into expensive artist grade watercolours I can highly recommend St Petersburg [Nevskaya Palitra] White Nights watercolours, they are artist grade Russian watercolours but for a fraction of a price.
You can pick individual colours and create a transparent palette very easily and you will notice a big difference. They are also super vibrant which depends on your style whether you will like it, I happen to love beautifully transparent yet vibrant watercolours :)

Alyona's Watercolour Creations Thank you so much Alyona. I just purchased a while back water colors from Amazon - castle supplies ( I'm a bit embarrassed. These paints don't even show up on any reviews - lol. I wished I would have done more research before buying. I'm gonna give them a try. But will look into your recommendation for sure. Probably sooner than I think). In the meantime, I've been painting with you - your videos. I did poppies and the lily pad which I enjoyed. But I do see I need better paints. Thank you for posting your videos. They are enjoyable and full of information. You paint beautifully. 🌸

When I watch your video I always think why don't I buy white nights more but the just don't seem to bloom as well on the paper. I would be interested in your thoughts on this.

May i know your opinion on whether i should buy schminke akademie or white nights artist grade?

    • @AlyonasWatercolourCreations
      @AlyonasWatercolourCreations  3 года назад +2

In my opinion if you like vibrant colours go for the White Nights, you can always mellow them down with a bit of water [keep water ration in mind: more pigment less water for depth of the colour and more water less pigment for lightness - water is your white basically!]. But Academy I really would not recommend at all, I bought my set by a mistake and will give it to my son when he is a bit bigger. You will also get more colours for the price. Hope this helps. There are a few colours that I would replace once you get comfortable in customising your palette, but they are really affordable to buy a full pan and most colours are available even on Amazon. :)

@@AlyonasWatercolourCreations omg thank you so much. Wasn't expecting you to reply and here you are solving my biggest doubt. I will buy white nights artist grade and later on when i have money and already add more skills, i will buy schminke horadam. Subscribed. Thank you so much!
