- I can't believe there are still things that haven't been praised about this game. It's just so good, better than KH2 even?
I do not own any of the music featured in this video.

I like that the Dive to the Heart weapons give you a little something extra for picking them.
- *Power of the Mystic* gives you another MP bar.
- *Power of the Guardian* gives you another item slot.
- *Power of the Warrior* gives you another reason to pick something else.
this is such a good video finally someones defending this great game
Thanks! It definitely doesn't get enough love.
Didn't know I needed an Essay to remind me why I love KH1.
Admittedly I love KH2s Combat, Soundtrack and Story a lot, but KH1 deserves a special place.
Honestly same.
KH1 is one of my favorites with BBS and CoM.
I personally feel like kh2 was the best game out of all of them. Right under that, BBS. But kh1 was definitely a banger for the time it came out
"Sora loves Kairi" and then he does nothing to advance that relationship the next nearly dozen entries lmao. She's wallpaper.
Cute, well-written and well-edited video. Always happy to see the OG getting love ❤
There is no "perfect" numbered kh game, they all have certain strengths and do certain things better than others. You nailed what makes kh1 so damn special.
After replaying everything in my late 20s, I came to the conclusion Kingdom Hearts 1 is the best. I thought like the mainstream and always prefered the second one. But the first one truly had that mystical charm, that let your mind fill out so many blanks and made it even more interesting. The nostalgia also helps
Great vid. Can't wait for the 80 minute Donald Duck goin Quakers essay.
It's currently clocking it at 93 mins. Slightly worried I may have missed the boat on all that Goin Quackers hype though.
26:03 the phrase "There's no way you're taking Kairi's heart!" is burned into my memory
KH1 was the game that made me a gamer and it has the absolute best world platforming and boss design
Kingdom hearts 1 , my number one comfort go to game 😊
I agree with what you say about Tech Points, wonder why never came back.
One of my favorite things in this game is how it handles the super rare enemies that you need to get the synthesis materials, as is treated as a minigame within the combat system and is so fun and not so hard to encounter them, unlike kh3 that goes full-minigame which I despise. Generally I don't like minigames because of how mostly are afterthoughts within the full game and get boring reaaaally fast. Thats why I never liked the gummi ship but I find it tolerable in this game and in kh2 since you can ignore it once finished the route or get warp, unlike kh3 that is necessary to get ultima weapon.
J Heff needs 1M subs
The magic system in KH1 is easily my favorite in the whole series. It’s so unique and genius. Your regular attacks will charge up a meter on the side of the notches, and each notch of the side meter can be used like a notch of the main meter, and when the side meter is filled, you get another notch of the main meter. I’ve never seen anything like it in any other game, and I’ve always thought it was the coolest thing. Also I’ve always hated how Cure in the other games will 100% always wipe out your MP bar, which can only be restored with an Ether or by just waiting for that pink bar to go away. And the less said about the “magic” system in Days, the better. KH1 has the best MP bar in the series.
How the hell do you have so few subs. Your editing is great and I love your analyses.
Wow, I cant believe this is your first video, there's great writing, presentation and humor here, super excited to see what other videos you've cooked up
The first game is hands down my favorite. I remember being a kid seeing that trailer on tv and being mesmerized, and I went out and rented it that night. I admit that KH2 does have the superior gameplay, and combat, but KH1 is just special, and nostalgic. The first game is where the Disney characters/ settings actually mattered, whereas in every game after, they were essentially just a back drop. You could literally have used looney tunes, and it wouldn't have really mattered. The first game also was full of Disney characters, but it also always had a very ominous feeling whenever characters like ansem or Maleficent were on screen, plotting in the shadows, it always felt like there was a dark force working in the background. The story also just hits all the notes, sure there's some questionable dialogue, but the Disney characters, and the original characters all play their part to drive home the emotion, and the themes for this game. Also the story was very straight forward, and wasn't complicated yet.
KH1 is my favorite game of all time, so I always appreciate videos getting the respect it deserves.
Another thing I enjoyed about this game is how much foundation and setting up for future titles it did. The Enigmatic Man is hands down my favorite boss fight in the series cause of how important it is. Fighting someone who’s basically a Sith Lord would end up setting up to be the big bad of KH2 known as Xemnas. It cryptically introduces the concept of nobodies, the fight was a test of strength (also the first Xehanort to fight Sora in the flesh himself) and sets up the creation of Xion. The secret ending Another Side, Another Story introduces Roxas, along with Riku and Xemnas appearing who will have bigger roles in the future, and the creation of several games, most importantly Chain of Memories, KH2, and most importantly 358/2 Days. Sora chasing Pluto leads up to COM. Ansem’s report sets up Ansem the Wise and Xehanort, who is the true enemy of the series. There’s just so many things that happened that if it weren’t for KH1 existing, the whole series would crumble and disappear into nothingness. I know many say KH2 is the best game, but for me KH1 takes the cake cause it does quite a lot of things you don’t see in the other games. Upon first playing KH1, it felt so surreal and magical, no other video game made me feel the same way KH did, it will hands down be my favorite franchise of all time.
Your channel deserves more love. They're very well-edited and you clearly have a genuine passion for what you say.
I love that you've perfectly encapsulated how I feel about KH1. I made an hour long video on why I think it's great but it doesn't come close to the way you put it
Only 1.8k views? That's such a tragedy, this is gold
6:26 cmon bro you forgot about the absolute GOAT that is Kairi's grandma
Oh dang. In the words of Ansem the Wise, "I am a fool."

I used to be a diehard for kh2. Replaying kh1 its just....so much more of a videogame than any of its successors. The story is charming, the true focus on Disney for most of the game, more unique boss scenarios, having actual level design and exploration.
Magic being really useful with defense spells and status effect spells, summons with utilities other than combat. Like im of the belief now that kh2 really only improves combat and a few quality of life things like opening chests in combat. The player interactivity in kh1 trumps kh2 and even kh3.
The most rewarding synthesis quest, organically weaving other sidequests into the overarching narrative and so on.
Even before final mix there were like 4 superbosses, one of which was named after a fan/contest winner. You just do not see stuff like that in games anymore it has the last bastion of pure videogames from the 80s-early 2000s.
Im being converted to the kh1 side the more i play it. One day I'm going to sit down and experience the story again and im 100% sure it will be a magical experience.
I'd love to see a video essay on KH 3, being the most polarizing game in the series. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I would definitely love to make a vid on KH3! I've got a ton to say about it, but I'm not sure if the world is ready for that.
@@Jheff99 Haha! I think the world is ready!
I liked kh3, the story was definitely all over the place and I wasn't too crazy about all of the different keyblade forms. And then there being no coliseum got to me a little bit. But those series of fights with Xehanort at the end was dope af.
And this is more of a skill issue, but I didn't like how much they asked of you in kh3 in order to get Oblivion. Even getting the Ultima Keyblade was easier to get than Oblivion
Your videos have such great quality, and and voice over! Great job!
You get a like for the title alone.
Something is telling me you wish Tarzan and Deep Jungle returned😅
What gave you that impression? 😅 Honestly it could've been really cool if they had worked out some of the kinks and brought it back.
KH1 supremacy is something that is always appreciated
Kh1 is in the top 10 best selling list for PS2 games. that's not anywhere near underrated
Tbh they should have kept the og voice actor of ansem for the whole series
Billy Zane, he's a cool dude.
KH1 has the best story of all the games, and the ending is fantastic. It’s sad how many “fans” completely disregard it
I’ve found my people
I feel like it handled the plot the best out of every game because it lacks all the baggage of how convoluted the series’ story became.
While it’s not the best with the Disney parts, I believe it handled the Disney crossover the best out of all the games. Like how the Disney villains were actually a threat and were a team. I personally preferred that over the organization and Xehanort. Yes it’s nice to handle the original villains but I just could never get invested in them due to how over complicated they are.
Just over all still prefiere the first over every other game because of that.
Well guess what pal, I agree
Honestly I'm the same way I find it underrated I think I came to respect it more as I got older as it become easy for me as a kid I had a harder time I don't remember much as I had more memories with the second one compared to the first
I’ve also never had too much trouble with Donald not healing me honestly
I agree. While KH1 doesn't exactly have the best gameplay in the series, it still fun and still holds up today. And the story is still easily the best in the series, with Chain of Memories being a close second, and KH2 being a close third. Unfortunately the series devolved into an over-convoluted, overcomplicated mess, for the most part. Hopefully with the new saga coming up with KH4, we can get a more concise, tighter story, as was seen in the first KH.
Yeah i don't take any Donald healing slander either
Truth hurts. You can mess with the settings all you want 9 times out 10 he's dead so he's healing no one 😂
Paying attention to resistances makes critical runs a cake walk something i discovered on my 4th kh3 critical run
Its the best kh game
i feel like kh3 has great big level design like kh1
KH1 runs like doo doo on my PC so every time I go to replay it it either crashes constantly or there's really bad sound bugs that fuck up cutscenes. I couldn't tell you how many times I've played KH1 since 02 haha and I really wish I could figure out why it's been acting up. Farthest I got on my last attempt was Agrabah and during Genie's introduction scene the audio would go in and out, the cutscene played the same moment over and over again and the subtitles were really off, with the lines being bunched together.
I thought you were a doughbag at first but you definitely grew on me as the video went on lol. I agree bud KH1 is awesome!!!!
I tend to have that affect on people lol. Thanks for watching!
You look both 15 and 35
Kh1 is my favorite game, I think the later games got a bit try hard with RNG heavy bosses with cheese strategies. It really put the spark of the first game in the back seat.
I’m the only one who likes kh2 Atlantica
KH 1 is the 2nd best game in the franchise. 2 Still being the very best and KH 3 was dog shit.
birth by sleep was a better kh3 to me
It has more than 6.3 million copies… kh2 only sold 5.2 million and its far better
It’s really good, but the first game is also great imo, just in different ways
I think KH2 is the weakest of the main trilogy. We all got opinions man
2:53 Lol! Sora VEEERY obviously doesn't have romantic feelings for Kairi. When he found her in KH2, he was just like, wow, you look different. And then goes on his knees sobbing when he finds Riku.🏳️🌈
who was it that sora draw a picture of sharing a paopu with again? who was it that he actually did intertwine his destiny forever to with the fruit?
sora was worried that riku was dead, and never knew where he was until that point. sora knew where kairi was for the whole game: first on the island, then with the organization. it makes sense that he was less worried about her than riku.
4:21 Dude she's like 14, chill the hell out.
I'd love to see you make more videos on KH! I'm so so happy to see somebody defending this series! Do you have a discord or twitter I can follow?
Also, I'd love to see you do reviews of each game like this!
I don't have a discord or twitter currently but I will make a post if I make one! I do plan on streaming on twitch soon though.
This channel is going to be all KH videos & I've got lots of projects in the works so stay tuned! Thanks for watching my stuff
@@Jheff99 Sweet and okay, no prob!
